Arrogant scientists haphazardly create cutting edge science/technology for amusement/needs of rich folks. Science and/or technology gets out of control, kills arrogant scientists/aristocrats and our main character learns a valuable lesson about the nature of things.
Replace T-Rex with Yul Brenner if necessary.

Actually the few Michael Crichton books I have read were pretty different.
Jurassic Park, Andromeda strain, Sphere and Air Frame.

Did he actually have a writting credit for Westworld? I thought he just directed it.
But yeah, Westworld and Jurassic Park are basically the same thing.

He wrote and directed it. Also, I don't think it's a stretch to group a bunch of his books in the same formula - including Timeline. French knights instead of dinosaurs.

At least he's better than Dean Koontz or Dan Brown. I mean, that's not saying much, but he could be worse.
