Title: Computer help with Compaq laptop
Post by: Himu on December 19, 2008, 08:49:40 PM
My laptop seems to be on its last legs.

It's a Compaq Presario r3000, and the battery has been shot for years. Well, being the lazy person I am, I haven't replaced the battery and just kept it going with the ac adapter. The ac adapter went dead a few months back. Since the battery is dead, it can only last a few seconds. A problem persisted before its death -- the computer would occasionally not recognize the adapter and I'd have to wiggle it in order for it to receive power. So my question for you is, since I can't readily find adapters or batteries for my model in stores currently since it's a lil old, is it possible for laptops to share batteries and ac adapters or are they all built for specific models?  Thanks.

Also what are the best laptops, preferably something not too expensive?

HPs, whenever the site has one it's 30-40% off sales.

Have you looked at aftermarket adapters for your laptop on eBay?

*EDIT* Actually wow, ran a search and couldn't find any myself. :lol

Also, seems like HP's running an "Inventory closeout sale" on laptops here. (http://www.hp.com/sbso/special/computing/closeout-laptops.html?jumpid=ex_r2910_performics%2Fk1971%2FPrimary&ampdfmt=fy08)

Himu, I looked into your laptop's model and apparently batteries/chargers for the HP ZV5000 series will also work on your laptop.

Here's some stuff I scrounged up:

 :interracial AC Adapter (http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-AC-Adapter-for-Pavilion-R3000-ZV5000-6-5A-18-5V-new_W0QQitemZ170288130940QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item170288130940&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50)

 :interracial Battery (http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Laptop-Li-ion-Battery-for-HP-Pavilion-zv5000-zx5000_W0QQitemZ220330679125QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item220330679125&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1234|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50)

Might wanna look into just replacing both.

Thanks buddy.

You know, my father and I both decided that it serves little purpose to replace them though. Might as well get a new laptop, right? I need a new one anyway.

Out of those HP laptops listed on that site, what's the best deal and what has the best shit in it? Will be strong enough for me to play Diablo 3, The Witcher, and Neverwinter Nights 2?
