I'm getting these annoying flickering (or static) dots on the screen when playing certain games. If you've ever seen a computer show early signs of overheating, then it will look familiar. It used to crash, hasn't done that lately, but now I'm getting more and more of these things. Not prevalent enough to disrupt any games, but totally enough to know that something has gone to shit. And, I've noticed, I'm seeing this familiar bug in nearly every game I play these days. Looks like polygons stretching from one or more objects across the screen. Not sure what the name for the bug is, but I've seen it before when screwing up modeling some edges in 3d. I wouldn't necessarily connect this to the hardware, hadn't it become more common in pace with more of those damned dots appearing. It's not perfectly consistent, but it's affecting more and more games. This bug is a lot more annoying, especially in MotorStorm 2 where I've more than once mistaken blocks of rogue polygons for course objects.
So what the hell is up? The obvious conclusion is that it's overheating or that some component got a bad jolt (oddly, these issues seem to be affected by HDD access), but those stretching issues don't mesh with that. I'm not sure if I should send it in for service or just sell the shit system As Is and pick up another one when they are $199 or less. That would actually be a totally reasonable option, wasn't it for the fact that it will be difficult to get a complete system, meaning one with full BC. Then again, it's not like there are even a ton of games, so maybe it's a sign to just stick with proper gaming until next generation or something.

Do you put your dick in your consoles?
Are you going to whine about this in every other PS3 thread from now on? (please do!)

You bet. Well, where appropriate. It's not like the 360, where bitching is always appropriate due to it being shitty to the core and dripping shit through every avenue of service. But it's shit, alright.

Are PSPs any good these days?
-
no...
-
Yes
-
no
-
PSPs are fine if the only thing you are interested in is playing 20 year old ROMs.
-
Don't forget to back up your saves LOL

It's ok, nobody reads those threads anyhow.

Buy a(nother) Wii.
Yeah, might as well buy something that is fundamentally broken from the start. And I've already played Wii's one good game, still have two, potentially three, left for the PS3.
Does anyone know what the stretched polygon shit is, and does it even make sense that it'd be tied to a hardware issue?
-
id probably call Playstation support or whatever
i mean, this is an overwhelmingly xbox3D0 based forum
-
Well, that would be the reasonable thing to do. >:(

Is this the official PS3 discussion thread?

PC Gaming.

buy left 4 dead

Actually, there we go. What should I pick up to play on PC? Specifically, what's the best current strategy game with reasonable fast game progress?
-
haha I wonder what duckman considers the 'one good wii game'
-
I dunno. I can't think of even one game worth owning a Wii for. I guess zelda, maybe, although TP is the worst in the 3d series.
-
Super Mario Galaxy was pretty hot.
-
Super Mario Galaxy is the only Wii game worth buying...at full price anyway.
-
Argh, how can I forget Mario Galaxy. You're right.
-
i came in here to say mario galaxy
the only game i played for wii
havent unboxed it since i moved 9 moths ago but it was so worth it being the HUGE SM64 fag that i am
-
Argh, how can I forget Mario Galaxy. You're right.
It's probably because it should have never been a Wii game. Minor waggle quirks aside, I can't think of a good reason why this couldn't have been a Gamecube game.
:bow Super Mario Galaxy :bow2
:piss Wii :piss2

yeah, if you want to prove how useless the Wii actually is, just look at how the few good games for the system don't even require the "revolutionary motion controls"

fixed

Except Twilight Princess is sort of crap
-
TP is ok at best. The game is pretty tedious for the bulk of it but you push on anyway in hopes that it picks up or at least resembles the quality of A Link to the Past or hell, even Ocarina of Time. You keep plugging away then you fight Gannondorf and you realize there never was a "best part."
It was visually impressive on the GCN but the gameplay is a little lacking
-
to understand you must know that i am a former HUGE N64 FAG
the temple of time monk chants give me goosebumps :-[
thats how big of a zelda fag youre dealing with :link
-
TP was overall disappointing but the dungeons were fuck awesome. Especially Arbiter's Grounds and the Sky Temple. And of course

Isn't Sony pretty good about fixing your busted products?

iirc, with a 60 gig PS3, you're fucked
-
that's what i have :(
surely they'd offer an 80 gig, or some games, or something to compensate for their short-sightedness
(they really ought to give you a free ps2)
-
I haven't contacted support about it. There's the 60GB issue, and I know they will just tell me the thing is fucked and needs to be defucked. Which I may or may not want to pay for. I bought it before Costco changed their return policy, but I'm not sure if that change was retroactive or not. And, that way I'll definitely get some inferior system.
-
if my shit breaks, and they're not fixing 60 gigs anymore, i'm raising twelve different kinds of hell until i get a 80 BC or 160 gig and some games
-
Not sure, but mine has been acting up for a few months. It seemed to be doing better, but there's been a slow but steady rise in red dot count and instances of fucked up polygons or whatever the hell they are in games as of late. Like in Motorstorm 2, and I don't think it's a natural bug since I haven't seen many mentions of these glitches.
Although chronologically, it'd make sense if there were more PS3s going out, wouldn't it? System age, more people playing, and having more to play.
-
seems to be a bit of a rise in PS3 breaks recently? or is it just me?
Some people are finally getting around to playing them for more than 5-10 hours a month, so I guess that's doing the trick.

Let's not go crazy, duckman.
