<$900 for a 1br in a managed building here (DC Metro) is like shitty public housing. :'(  I don't see how people do it.

If someone could point me to an area or a specific building where this ISN'T true, I would be eternally grateful and would willingly satisfy your every sexual desire, however potentially traumatizing.

Public housing is at most 300 in my parts.  I did call about a studio apartment for 275/mo but it was HUD housing. F F F

I called up 23 places and almost no luck.  Damn it

My friend paid like $450 a month plus utilities for a one-bedroom in Dallas, PA. Now she pays $650 a month for a two-bedroom including utilities. The apartment she lives in now also allows pets, has off-street parking, and the world's most awesome landlord who lives below her.

I always laugh when people from our area ask me if the Bay Area is SO EXPENSIVE (as it is heard to be in myth and legend!) when I lived in a nice one bedroom apartment for like $850.  Hardwood floors, man.  Comparable to Gaithersburg in terms of environment.
