Ive received word of a promotion at work! Since I am now basking in the wonderful world of cabbage and clean ups in the canned goods department, I can now use the money Ive been saving up to buy my mother a laptop for her birthday.
Here's what I'm looking for:
-Under $500 or slightly over
-Built-In wifi
-A reasonable hard-drive
-Mild graphics capabilities(Basically, I need it to be able to run Sims 2 and shit)
I'd also to be able to get it at a B&M location, but getting it online isn't an issue.
-
Drop the graphics requirement and you could buy her a nice netbook for under $500 easily.

I hear bad stories about Acer, I bought one anyway.
-
Samsung NC-10 and the MSI Wind are the netbooks I like the most, build-wise.
-
my parents have that first acer. it suits their basic needs just fine, and seems to be pretty reliable.
-
I bought the samsung because all the reviews say the keyboard is mint and battery life is 5+ hours.
trustedreviews.com gave it rave reviews....of course I will let you know what I think of it.
Should tide me over till the new netbooks with ion. :drool

Yup, but it's an acceptable compromise for the size.
-
you can just use an exteral dvd drive...find them for cheap too.
-
or you could download magiciso and make iso files, then download magicdisc and mount the iso files on a virtual dvd drive
