Title: Youtube muting many fanmade videos.
Post by: ToxicAdam on January 15, 2009, 01:37:17 AM
I was bouncing around youtube the other day and came across this link:

It was wierd to see youtube alter someones upload for copyright infringement.

It looks like other people are noticing too: http://mashable.com/2009/01/14/youtube-mutes-videos/

First noticed this with a video that originally used a Prince tune.

There are other ways for amateur videos to get distributed on the Internet so the copyright goon squad can't get to them, but none are as convenient for browsing or immediately reaching a wide audience as Youtube.

Yeah, I noticed quite a few when looking for vids for Zero's 80s music thread.  WTF.

Also, the disabled embedding sucks donkey balls.  And then I clicked one of the 'embedding disabled' videos in the 80s thread and it said "video not available in your country".  I changed my country and it still didn't work.

AND I'm sick to death of that stupid dialog box at the top of youtube asking me if I want to set a country filter and it won't go away permanently.

Youtube are rapidly fucking their own site up.
