Can't wait to buy on XBL.
-
Oh shit. We posted this AT THE SAME SECOND
-
I didn't think I'd like the hexagon but that was awesome!
-
yep got points saved up for this one
-
beat the guy down :rock , I can feel this game will waste too much time already
-
this game is awesome
will buy it on steam
-
Everything is better with hexes. :rock
Looks good but I'll have to see how meaty the rest of the game is. I played a LOT of Puzzle Quest and if I do it again I want some fresh elements.
-
I fucking loved the first game, but I'm a bit worried about the Hex.
How are the enemy piece drops in this one? Do they get as insanely lucky as they did in the first one?
-
I dont think anyone knows...
-
Played PQ on the PSP. Shit was awesome. This shit was tight.
-
Great demo, but it just goes to show how important the RPG elements are because I'm already kinda bored.
One question - is there any rhyme or reason to how the pieces slide in? I must be distinguished mentally-challenged...
And seriously, what the fuck at it not coming on PSP?!? Puzzle Quest PSP >>>>>>> Puzzle Quest DS
-
the movement of new pieces are based on what angle you match 3+ with. Its really confusing but once you figure out how its gonna move you can set up chains pretty easily.
Whats with all the hate on the DS version i own it on pc, psp, ds and i put in more time on the ds than the other too.

I like pretty pictures and the DS version doesn't have them.
-
apparently the pieces come in from where you move them in space but they fall down when fighting on a planet or something, i remember reading that somewhere
-
So Galactrix is gonna have the same sort of Equipment setup as the original? Its the upgrading of equipment a la RPGs that made it so addictive.
-
you can customize your ship and have multiple ships
some good info in this dev interview:

I found most of the equipment to be shit. I think it's just Bejeweled + RPG = where did that hour just go

PC demo is out
http://www.bigdownload.com/games/puzzle-quest-galactrix/pc/puzzle-quest-galactrix-demo/ (http://www.bigdownload.com/games/puzzle-quest-galactrix/pc/puzzle-quest-galactrix-demo/)
after playing some of the single player it looks like its a lot more streamlined and awesomer.
-
pc demo rocks, way more stuff to do. the demo limitations are you cant save, cant go past lvel 5 and cant go too many places
-
wheres my fuckin psp demo O WAIT
-
the flash demo was pretty weak. i'll definitely give the pc demo a try tonight.
-
this game is awesome
-
Bought it today for the PC at Gamestop for $20. :rock
console releases annihilated
-
Bought it today for the PC at Gamestop for $20. :rock
:o It's out?
-
Nice, will wait for a torrent
-
Frag, how's the multiplayer? I want to know whether I should buy it on PC or 360. If I don't buy it on PC, I'll get it on 360 and torrent the PC version.
-
Wish a torrent would come up or it was available on Steam or Gamersgate. The closest Gamestop with the game is 40 miles away. :(
-
I'm playing the PC demo and I'm in love. :hyper
Thanks for the tip! :-*
-
This thread got me to try my PSP copy of Puzzle Quest I got off of Patel.
3 hours later I was downloading the X360 version (achievements). Then I played like 5 hours straight of it (I think the PSP version is better, but achievements!). I'm a convert.
-
Still no torrent up :(
-
Game's a lot of fun so far. I wasn't sure I would be up for another huge marathon of puzzle quest, but the base gmechanics (as seen in the demo as well ) are superior and there's a ton of things to explore and do in the game. Definite thumbs up so far.
FatalT-Haven't tried MP-honestly, given the VERY limited PC release that this game is getting, XBLA would be the place to go if multiplayer is important to you.
-
I think the PSP version is better
lol, sorry, no
-

X360 one is so ugly. It's like a PSP game running on your HDTV. Is there a way to zoom in on the map? You can't even see sprite work. Also when you get quests the quest description box COVERS THE QUEST LIST. The interface just seems total shit on X360 compared to PSP where it looks nice.
-
Level 19 now, be warned that the game's compulsive ability to get you to play it for 6-8 hours straight is still VERY much intact.
-
so what are the other minigames not in the pc demo, I think you get one for each new partner/helper
-
Screw you guys for getting me hooked on these games. :maf
I have other shit I could be doing, or so I'm told.
-
i found out it will be available for download here
http://www.impulsedriven.com/galactrix
on tuesday
-

I don't think Sable (the telepath) has a minigame of his own. I've done Haggle, Mining, Crafting, and Hacking so far. I still have at least one more crew member to go.
LOTS of hacking, I might add. Expect to hear some major bitching from people about that since you have to do it so much but in return it doesn't really give you anything other than access to the next point on the map.
-
I wen back and found Challenge of the Warlords and played it for at least 5 hours yesterday. Galactrix is better but Challenge is still addicting.
-
Exit 2 on XBLA this week :'(
Guess it's PC torrent for me

its up on impulse now for download, apparently
also here is something interesting from something awful about some speech
I'm back from the talk that Steve Fawkner and his team gave about Galactrix. I picked out a few interesting bits.
He doesn't like random name generators any more after demonstrating one of their products to a teenage magazine, when the reviewer started playing it generated the name "Molestor".
Puzzle Quest Galactrix is their first game to have a dedicated sound engineer work on it. Before then Steve usually handled all the audio himself.
There were two AI's developed for Galactrix, one that's a lot better at reading the board and a slightly nerfed version. Due to processor constraints with the DS the better AI was not enabled but you can reenable it on PC if you hack around in the LUA files. I'm going looking for it once the game has finished downloading from Gamers Gate.
The game has systems named after places on earth, New Australia for example. New Africa was in the game until a QA tester pointed out it was the name of a militant animal rights group. It was changed to New Etheopia but in the meantime a designer had coded in a quest where you steam food from pirates in that system. Since they didn't catch it before the game went out there is a quest in the game where you steal food from New Etheopia.
Steve showed half a dozen prototypes for Galactrix that were scrapped that included shooting lasers at coloured icons to make patterns and a Zuma clone.
Their next game will probably be a puzzle game but he'd like to do a proper RPG or strategy game.
It was quite an interesting talk, apparantly they went to some lengths to get the game as similar as possible design wise across all platforms, this included porting LUA to the DS.
-
GamersGate? Nice, I have a press account there
-
The AI in the retail version definitely seems less brutal than the one in the first Puzzle Quest. I'll keep an eye on the SA thread to see how people hack in the better AI-I had it actually MISS a 5-match the other day, which shocked me. It is also too item spammy when there are mine matches to be had as well.
-

This kind of irks me. Instead of having the game focus on one type of puzzle, why not have half a dozen puzzle games inside one game? Why am I doing the same puzzle mechanic for each different event? That's what I was hoping their next project would be.

I sort of disagree-better to have one really strong and well thought out puzzle mechanic than six weaker ones. Else your basically packaging a bunch of shallow minigames with an RTS shell and channeling the Great Wii Faggotry in your game.
-
Galactrix is on Steam! Woo! I'm still waiting on a torrent but now I'm seriously tempted.

Puzzle Pirates seemed to figure it out.
It's not like there needs to be much playtesting. A Zuma clone shouldn't be too hard to pull off. Find an existing puzzle-type, make a clone (that matches your game's theme), then assign it to a task. It's not reinventing the wheel here.
-
Dammit I caved.
-
this game is pretty awesome, the amount of leapgate hacking is a bit tiresome though, as frag said.
other then that addictive
-
There's a torrent up for this on demonoid. Bah, I should've waited.
-
When is it out for PSP?
-
New Australia :hyper
-

NEVAR

Pirating the PC version. (2G2D :usacry). Will buy the XBLA version when it comes out.
-
Hacking sucks. Probably played for 15 minutes or so. Don't want to redo all the quests when the XBLA version comes out but it gave me a taste of what's to come.
-
Hacking is total goat sex. I'm going to try modding it out of the PC version, everything is in plaintext from what I understand. Note also that gates that you hacked previously revert at points later, so you get to hack them again!
-
:lol at the name profanity filter in the PC version

can't get rid of hacking completely, but I can set each hack to just require one match. that will have to do!
-
when's the xbla version out?
-
is goat sex good or bad ???
-
when's the xbla version out?
was supposed to be tomorrow but ms decided that everyone wanted exit 2 instead so it's now tbd!
-
is goat sex good or bad ???
really bad
look at it this way-for a game that's designed to be able to pick up and play for 15 minutes at a time, there's a decent chance that you'll spend at least half that time getting from point A to point B with hacking without getting any kind of XP or money increase for your character.
I've modded it out as much as I can. The mechanic totally sucks. At least the mobs that spawned in PQ gave you something for killing them.
-
ruh roh, that sounds shit.
-
It's really distinguished mentally-challenged, especially considering alot of the sectors seem to be devoid of things to do, unless I'm missing something. I went through like 3 sectors without any activities and had to constantly hack to get to new stuff.
-
Yeah, the splitting off of sectors is annoying and Hacking on Medium is a bit of a chore. A bunch of occasions where I need to match a color and there's only one of that color. I've already wasted time and other colors on trying to get more greens lined up. Then its already too late.
-
usually on medium gates I can do them in the first try IF there is at least one or two obvious matches right from the get go, key is while matching pay careful attention to the next in line so you can match it right after the previous animation finishes
difficult lives up to its name and takes a few tries. match 24 gems in 95 seconds? FML
-
My friend demonoid called and said he got this game, I'm gonna have to go over to his place and try it out.
smh
-
Just buy the game, you cheap fuckers. I downloaded Steam for this and bought it, and I'm going to buy it on XBLA, too. And I would've bought it on PSP if they had done it. I don't think I'm spending $30 on the DS version, though.

they'll buy it on xbla, I wouldn't worry about the piracy too much.

Quick question for you Steam experts from a newbie - I tried last night to play Puzzle Quest Galactrix when I was not connected online and Steam wouldn't let me play it online. I've got a four hour plane ride this evening and I really, really need to be able to play it on my trip.
What am I doing wrong and what do I need to do?

Go to the File Menu and choose "Go Offline" . Then verify that you can play by starting up the game w/ no net connection.

The problem I was having yesterday was that I couldn't even get into Steam because I was already offline, so I didn't have a chance to get to the menu to do this :(
EDIT: The good news is that I did what you said and it worked, but I'm just worried what will happen when I shut down and then boot up on the plane when I'm already offline. Hopefully, it remembers that I already got it to work offline once...
-
Steam is a huge scam dude. You got swindled. Enjoy
-
I don't think you have to have Steam turned on to play it, either. Just go here and open up galactrix.exe: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\puzzle quest galactrix
-
I thought all of the game executables had magic Steam DRM spice that basically had them call into Steam when they were launched.
-

Nope. I just logged out of Steam and closed it to try it out and it worked. You don't need to have Steam open to be able to play it. In fact, there isn't even a CD Key with this game so essentially you could just copy the direct files from that folder to a CD and give it to all your friends or whatever.
I still feel like I wasted $20 when I could've been a pirate instead. :(

Thanks for the tips. Think about it this way - you're supporting the next Puzzle Quest.

Good point. Maybe the next Puzzle Quest won't have this ridiculously stupid hacking system to unlock new areas.
-
There probably wont be another puzzle quest since he said he wants to work on an actual RPG / Strategy title instead (from Frag's quote)
-

It is stupid, but it hasn't been an issue for me so far. I've done a few normal ones and one difficult one on the first try. The only ones I've had to retry (just once) were a couple of random easy ones where I just didn't get the right gems.
-
The hacking isn't hard, it's just a tedious and pointless drag on the game and a right killer if you are trying to play it in short bursts.
-
My hispanic friend stopped by and gave me th DS version
Thanks Rico
-
I don't know if I should get this for PC or not. I've been playing Puzzle Quest on my cell phone lately and I've already played more than I have on other consoles.
-
Someone halp me. I just bought a freighter and I've been moving minerals and contraband for the past 2 hours. Now THAT'S fucking addicting :-\
-
anyone know when this is hitting PSN?
-
never
-
Have they announced an iPhone port?
