Title: I just saw Brick
Post by: Bebpo on January 22, 2009, 02:41:21 AM
Why didn't it win every award ever!?!?!

Since it wasn't even nominated for best picture at the Oscars I'm done with the Oscars.  They've lost all credit with me.

Seriously, it was like watching Mamet at his best...and then it was better!  I neeeeeeeeeed this on Blu-ray  :gloomy

i'm so behind.  the name sounds familiar, but i can't for the life of me think of what it's about at all.  i have been going to the theater like twice a week for the last 2 months though!

The shitty overwrought dialogue killed it for me.  I love myself some Chandler and I love noir, but it just didn't fit in a modern high school setting.  I'm not even sure why the director thought it was a good idea.  Pretty crap film.  If this got you going, just watch some noir.

Wasn't that kind of the point?  ???

That's a fairly extreme example. Taking the defining characteristics of one setting and genre and putting them directly into another setting and genre is not uncommon in the movie industry.

Hated it. Neat concept, terrible execution.

I love Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but that's about all I liked about it.

"i didn't like this movie because i had to look at a gaping asshole for 2 hours."

doesn't sound silly to me.

But wouldn't you know going in that that's all it was? So why would you still watch it unless that was something that appealed to you?

i just explained that in the part you didn't quote. of course the asshole analogy was silly. i was just being stupid.

i said that i found the idea intriguing (UNLIKE the idea in my analogy). of course you still never know exactly what you're signing up for. i found the idea of "short cuts about racism in l.a." appealing too. but i almost puked during crash.

Okay, I get what you're saying now.

I think Warhol may have made that movie.

It was good, but yeah, it's definitely something I wouldn't watch more than once.
