The Tain was awesome, I'm hoping that's what they're going for with this concept album.Yup.
Isn't that pretty much any album that comes out? It'll either suck or rock?
I'm going to say "suck."
I'll take the money line: mediocre but heralded incessantly by certain minorities on the internet.

I haven't listened to that band since 2005, is the crane wife any good?
Saw them play live at Coachella one year. They pretty much sucked, so I've been turned off since then. I like The Infanta though.
I'd probably like them more if some douchebag on this board hadn't said that they're better than Muse.
Wasn't it just a few months ago that Cajole was talking positively about Muse and everyone was agreeing?
I know what happened. Stephanie Meyer said it was one of her favorite bands and inspirations. There goes that band's EB cred.
Muse is okay, that's the point. They aren't my favorite, but they aren't ear cancer either.
Either way, how the fuck would Muse be considered prog? They aren't wholly prog, but they incorporate enough prog into their style for it to be mentioned. If you'd never heard the real deal you might think they were interesting.
Um, they definitely are better than Muse? While they have failed to evolve their sound, they still have at least 2 great records of material, no matter how you cut it. Muse, not so much.
Your mediocre ability to judge music is well documented. Matt Bellamy blows this band away just by himself. However, with your previous comment in mind, I will check out the Decemberists live again if I get a chance to see them in a smaller venue.
I believe you used that same analogy with velvet underground's first album, lol
I also like Muse, but I'm not very pitchforkian when it comes to music, so my opinion is probably worthless when it comes to music.
I've been spending a lot of time on Pitchfork now that they have a lala player in every review. I can read their articles and know right away if they're completely full of shit or not.
Queer ass shit? I'm not the one that likes Animal Collective, nor do I put my musical taste above anyone else's. I've been bored with the Decemberists for a while now, on record. I think it has to do with Colin Meloy's voice, which always just sounds the same

I'm wondering if that's why I'm enjoying the album so much, since I'm so far removed from the band. I mean, this is the first Decemberists album I've ever purchased.

I've tried listening to that song a couple times. It's so loud and boring, I don't get it
Been listening to the album for the better portion of the weekend while on public transit and I really like it - a lot.
I picked up Cutouts and Castaways, The Crane's Wife and Picaresque this weekend, as well. Of those three, I only like Picaresque as much as The Hazards of Love. But good tracks on all.
Not liking the new album very much, but I'm sorta sick of The Decemberists. I'll have to give it another listen in a month or two.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zol2MJf6XNE&fmt=18
That video is complete shit, and My Girls is probably my favorite song on that album. I really hope that's fan-made.
