I'm a big fan of the Phoenix Wright series despite the rest of evilbore denouncing it as animu tripe.

I also :heartbeat Shenmue

I like Phoenix Wright.  Some of them are better than others, and I have yet to play the Apollo Justice one, though.

fps games on the wii

i am fond of the control scheme for those particular types of games even though the wii remote's inaccuracy can be frustrating and the blurry graphics are just...blurry

can't wait until ms does fps waggle correctly with the xaggle

Yes metroid prime had bad controls and some unintuitive backtracking here and there but its one of my favorite games of all time. Every few months I crave another runthrough. I think the haters just miss samus' aerial acrobatic movement from the 2d games. I still don't think shinesparking and being able to walljump anywhere would've worked even if prime was in third person.

Smash Bros, Shenmue (I never played 2, and I haven't played it since 2001 so who knows if it held up or not, but it was certainly unique at the time), some Kirby games...

is this basically asking what games you like that the majority of EB doesn't?

btw, Prof. Layton is pretty stupid.  I tried playing it last week, saw the nice-ish anime intro, then got into thick of the action and it was basically an elementary school workbook hidden in dumb events.  I thought it was supposed to be an adventure game, not Brain Age with a style swap.

I really dug Kane and Lynch.
the Phoenix Wright series is what I most often use my DS for.
I played through Red Steel and derived enjoyment from it.
and I seem to throughly enjoy any light gun shooter that comes my way, any one at all.  For example, Ninja Combat, Endgame, and Dino Stalker were fugging great, really.

I'm a highly patient gamer (I beat Batman Dark Tomorrow and Escape From Bug Island just to test myself) and the novelty of the whole Wii control thang compelled me to keep going.  Its a highly flawed game, and I'm sure if I picked it up again I'd be much less enthused for it, but at the time, it wasn't all that bad.  And heck, it still has better graphics then most Wii games now.

Ooh I liked Order Up! on the wii. Alot of people would probably lump it in with the other shovelware clogging the shelves.  But I wanted a wiimote cooking game ever since the controller was unveiled and it does a respectable job.  Cooking Mama is trash in comparison.

Yoshi Touch and Go>>>>>>>Yoshi's Island DS btw.

Castlevania por was a great castlevania.  I gave up on Dawn of Sorrow out of boredom but Portrait mixed the linear/non-linear aspects in an appealing way.

Layton games are real good.  They are basically puzzle books that us adults can play without feeling like pedobear or ntard (like you do when you play Brain Training).  They have great art, voices, music and nice little mystery stories to sugarcoat the fact we're just doing a puzzle book.

Can't wait to play the 3rd one  :hump

Kind of. A lot of those two hours were spent trying to figure out how to make the gun point in the right direction and wrestling with the controls.

I hate Red Steel, but along with Kameo and (probably) Resistance 2, it's one of those games that I keep thinking "ok, it couldn't have been that bad" until I played it and realized it was.

I didn't realize Kameo was hated.  It's my favorite post-PD Rare game.  The connecting battleground was dumb, but the levels were nice adventure/platforming like Psychonauts/Zelda-lite with gorgeeeeeeeous graphics for the time.  So pretty.  I would've liked a sequel.

It had a few shortcomings that I was willing to overlook, but Rare's level design started to grate on me and that snow village pushed me over the edge.

I thought technically it was a great looking game.  Rare's design is a matter of taste but I find it quite OK for a Rare game.

Kameo was pretty in a choice cut sort of way. The whole was a vile mesh of Rare brand shit-for-balance and a jackhammer approach to "next-gen" graphics.

It had real nice music, though. Way too nice ("epic") for the actual content of the game, so that ended up being a failure as well.

Kameo has strange visuals, like most Rare games this gen (except the viva games, which were really nice looking).  Rare's answer to next gen is to saturation and a lot of visual effects.

red steel is very truly bad. but it has one hilarious level. the graphics are so horrible.

the graphics could have been passable if it had a stable frame rate

Dunno what you homos are talking about as far as Kameo not being a looker. Character designs are definitely questionable, but the environments and effects are fucking awesome. Don't think many games can compare to it, tech wise.

I wish I had the opportunity to try and like alot of games that haven't been localised for america. I don't care for disaster and captain rainbow, but I would like shiren3 and maybe fatal frame if they fix the controls. We are getting Klonoa though ^_^

I do enjoy my wii, but I do wonder how much better games would be if the motion tech worked reliably. It ruined No More Heroes' combat, and tenchu sounds like it includes its own shortcomings in that regard.

I hate rpgs and mmorpgs, but Contact was something I loved while acknowledging its glaring faults. I only put it down because I figured out it would take weeks of grinding postgame to upgrade the job classes. I don't think it was playtested past that point.  Shame it bombed worldwide so I'll never play a sequel with the necessary improvements.

There's an AILive motion+ vid on youtube. Guy is showing off convincing sword combat in a simulator. I'm worried devs wont care to incorporate it because of lack of market penetration.

As far as I've heard, DOAX2 has the nastiest, most painful and OCD unlock requirements outside of a Korean MMO in order to encourage you to buy the DLC unlocks.  And on top of that, I hear it's a sloppy mess that none of the developers gave a shit about.  I have a copy of the game, but I don't think I'll ever play it.
Title: Re: Games you like behind evilbore's back

I'm feeling good about skipping DOAX2 in that case.

I don't get where Nintendo is coming from with the Wii Motion Plus.  Casuals won't understand the difference and it is likely to be severely under-utilised in "hardcore" games just like existing Wii features are.

I'm being really pessimistic here but I won't be entirely surprised if it's a gigantic bomb.

I'm generally a positive person and the only thing that I find myself being cynical about is the Wii.  As much as Sony's software sucks and hinders my enjoyment of the PS3, I can still easily enjoy the good games on the system.

There are a number of "B" level or "'Bore controversial" games that I've really enjoyed over the past few years:

Ratchet and Clank 5
Assassin's Creed
Just Cause
The Godfather
Metroid Prime 3
Boom Blox
Too Human
NCAA/Madden (does anyone here play sports games?)
Prince of Persia
