New podcast about videogames. I hate "New Games Journalism" and podcasts, but I liked this. It's like "All Videogames Considered" or something equally NPR-y.

I just got done listening to this and I like how well-produced it is, even though Robert's "stoner dude" voice doesn't really mesh that well with what he's trying to produce, especially during the small bits where he's announcing the speaker's name.
However, in a sea of gaming podcasts that are all EXACTLY THE SAME, this is a nice change of pace and I look forward to future episodes. It's kind of sad that his little independent podcast has higher production values than the rest of the 1UP/IGN/Gamespot shows combined. Maybe this will be a kick in the ass to the rest of them to actually produce something unique.

I hate his voice. It's like Ira Glass, if he went to community college. But the content is fantastic. I love "inside stories". I fuckin' hate Sean Baby, but he's got a hilarious piece in here.

Is this legitimately interesting, or is it just games journalists talking about how important their jobs are and how their life-defining work is their review of Quake 64 from 1998
-
It's like an audio documentary. People compared it to An American Life or Radiolab.
I listened to it the other day and really liked it. Most (all) gaming podcasts are basically 2 or more guys joking around while a mic is there, so it's nice to see something based around structure and, hopefully, continue to cover interesting topics in gaming in this style.
-
I enjoyed it. It's different from the other gaming podcasts out there. I'm a fan of Robert Ashley, though.
-
I listened to half of it. I really like the documentary concept, but I was never a fan of EGM and I had no idea that it had that large of a following. Perhaps it was different back in the day, but the few issues that I've ever read were just like any other shill magazine out there. smh

I still feel terrible for never doing my idea of a "I Love the 80's" type show for video games.
-
This is really good. I just hope he can keep it going and have interview subjects who are actual industry people and not game journos.
-
I love Robert Ashley on podcasts, and this is great. His voice is a bit too stoner at times but I can handle it.
Hopefully he does some podcasts that are actually about games, or a game, or game development. Can't blame him for doing this story first though.

So it's This American Life on video games.
Needs some work though. It got annoying where each time someone new talked he would introduce them.
-
So this isn't about videogames. It's about...journalists? Who gives a shit.
-
It's about EGM the magazine. Imagine a episode of This American Life dedicated to about Cat Fancy if Ira Glass was a editor there, this is the equivalent of that. Extremely biased.
