What other PC games should I check out, guys?
-
BF2 = best multiplayer game ever. Don't bother with 2142.
If you buy BF2, you definitely will still find a lot of people playing.
But trying to get into it now will be quite the challenge because the people who are playing now have been playing for a loooooong time. They probably have really high ranks and all the unlocks, and they know the game like the back of their hand.
I used to be one of those people until I stopped playing. I tried going back recently and failed terribly.
That's the biggest draw back to getting it now. It's like someone who never played Halo online... or someone who's never played Starcraft jumping on to battle.net looking for a game. You're gonna get rocked.
If you do manage through it though, you'll find yourself playing one amazing multiplayer game.
Oh yeah, also the game doesn't have true widescreen support and never will. It can run at 1600x1200, but it's literally just stretched to fit. That was really annoying for me.

Green Man, this is a good deal:
http://www.gogamer.com/Medal-of-Honor--Airborne-with-Bonus-for-PC-Front-Page_stcVVproductId15259841VVcatId444710VVviewprod.htm
Medal of Honor Airborne + Battlefield 2, both games for $12.90

BF2 is better, but 2142 is worth playing for Titan Mode, which is pretty sweet.
-
Battlefield 2 is one of, ir not my favorite, multiplayer shooters of all time. It's totally worth checking out. Not so much 2142.
-
I bought Battlefield 2 like two years ago and it was impossible to get into, so no.
-
P.S. Is UT3 DOA on the PC? Ive never played an unreal game on the PC and I thought that since it can be found in bargain bins in might be worth checking out.
yes but i read on steams news just yesterday about a massive update coming soon

None of the maps were really that great.
The future vehicles kind of sucked. They removed jets and helicopters and merged them into one shitastic hybrid. The walker was.... well... just not very fun to ride around in.
If I remember correctly, there's less weapon variety. Also a lot of the classes were merged as well. I didn't like that because I played Spec Ops and it was merged with Sniper. But it's not as good of a class as either.
The only thing I did like was Titan mode. But the problem with THAT is that the final stage was too simple and it seemed they ran out of ideas.
If you don't know:
Titan mode is like normal Conquest except there's another layer added onto it. The positions around the map are missile spots. Taking the missile activated it and it starts firing it's missiles at the enemy Titan.
The Titan is a giant flying command post in the sky. It has giant guns on the bottom, and you can get in aircraft and launch off the side. They are shielded from enemy attack, so you take the missile locations to try and take down the shield.
When the shield in finally down you have to get yourself onto the enemy titan and destroy two strategic locations inside. This is where it becomes kind of simple. The Titan layout is simplistic at best and all you're tasked with doing is standing there and shooting whatever has to be destroyed. I felt it could have been more interesting.
The mode sets up a cool dynamic where you have to get some of your guys up into the Titan while also having dudes stay down and defend the missile spots. If the enemy can hold off your assault on the Titan and get your Titan's shield down, they can get in and take your Titan down.
I would like a mode like this in BF3. Maybe replace titan with an aircraft carrier or something.
OH i forgot. 2142 also has the first of a "man cannon" it's an APC that can be used to shoot your dudes up into the air in little pods that can be steered towards the Titan. That was awesome.
But overall I just didn't have as much fun with the game as i did with BF2. Plus I'm pretty sure it's not as popular.

BF2 is great, but just resign yourself to the fact that you are going to get owned pretty hard for the first 20-30 hours of gameplay.
I uninstalled a few years ago and have never found the patience to reinstall the game+patches. I wonder if my account is still alive?
Ahh .. here I am: http://www.bf2stats.net/player/43981987/
Once they nerfed Assault and amped up the accuracy on support ... I kind of lost the will to play. Plus, I was getting sick of all the maps.
-
loved bf2 and was playing it every night for like a year.
haven't played in a long time, and tragically i don't really feel like jumping into a game to just get rocked to hell and back (kind of like why i never play counterstrike).
-
So it's true that it has a steep learning curve/lots of haardcoore players ala Counter Strike?
-
thing about titan in bf2142 was, at least when I played it, no one actually took the titan. it was easier to just blow it up by controlling the missle sites for longer periods of time, which IMO defeated the point of the game mode.
honestly, I think quake wars is a better bf2142 than bf2142 is, I really dig that game. BF2 is legendary good but you'll be sodomized for a while until you get a hang of the maps and gameplay.

very much so, yes.

http://www.bigdownload.com/
That's a good PC-centric website to download demos (new and old) and look at trailers.
-
You should check out GRAW 1 for PC

Singleplaya: Max Payne 2
Multi: Counter-Strike: Source
Those are my favourites anyway.
I also echo the praise for BF2. Such an amazing game at the time.

pretty much everything made by valve
-
civ4
-
I'm having a lot of fun with Red Alert 3.
-
You really can't go wrong with a Valve package. From HL2 to all the multiplayer games, you are bound to find something you are going to love and spend dozens of hours playing it to death.
-
Age of Empires III is a good RTS.
And Titan's Quest + Immortal Throne is hot sex, find it somewhere. It's on Steam for $20.
-
What the fuck's wrong with you people.........Team Fortress 2. If you're looking for something really current, check out the DoWII beta. No basebuilding whatsoever, its a blast
-
You'd probably find more people still playing UT2k4 than UT3.
-
I believe that DoWII beta is open as of this week. I see you have Crysis on your list. Awesome game, one of my favorite shooters
-
Company of Heroes is made by the same company that made Dawn of War!! BUY EEEET! :hyper

World of Warcraft with expansions aka Best Game Ever.
-
Cave Story, Planescape Torment
