Star Trek looks cool too.

I hope you aren't one of those losers who think the original Transformers designs are better, and that the movie wasn't as good as the cartoons....

Seriously, amongst fanboy losers, transformers fanboys losers are amongst the worst. Michael Bay did the impossible, turned a shit property, and turned stupid ass robots into complete awesomeness.

I also agree with the sentiment that a movie adaptation of a bunch of toys from the 80s was way better than it deserved to be.

I don't disagree with the design of the robots (I dug it a lot), but since they have unique personalities, they should have done a better job of differentiating them.  Some of the toys that have leaked indicate that Bay and ILM may have done that for the Autobots, but I haven't seem any similar tweaking for the antagonists.

Considering the robots are the titular characters and that they're onscreen for a lot more than a "few minutes" - there needed to be more emphasis on on designs that could allow the audience to differentiate the various Transformers.

All you need is for the main robots to be very distinct. Optimus prime, Megatron were very different.

And then you have Star scream, which was fucking balla, i blew a hole through my seat when i saw that one taking on F22s, it's like coming down, morphs in the air, and bau, traaaa ttaa atatatatatta, sshshhhhiiuuuuu brrrrrroooooooommmm, "it's STARSCREAAAM", ueeeeuuuuuu *lands* *takes a bunch of cars* fjkasfglasbdgjkbaskgvj

:gun :gun :gun :gun :gun :gun :gun :gun :gun :gun :gun :gun :gun :gun :gun :gun :gun :gun

Then you see the las vegas dude pick up the ducati or whatever, and the black dude is like "Bring the Rain" and the guy goes speeding, and the motherfucker is getting lens flare close ups and shit, and it's shaking, and then the guy goes under and bam, UAAAAUUUU

Goddamn son.

You just feel like racing and get on highway chases, dodging crashes and shit, after seeing stuff like that. Michael Bay movies are like having an adrenaline shot, you just feel like doing shit.

And the Blu Ray?  :pimp

Starscream rocks.

Sorry?

Are we talking about quality? I though we were talking about how popular and appealing Bayformers was for the majority of movie goers. The numbers say, including dvd numbers, that Bayformers appealed to much much freaking more than "nerds".

So suck on that. Bayformers rock.

Sequels are almost always worse than the original. Shouldn't the thread title be C+ movie event of the year?

Since when?

X Men 2
Spiderman 2
Bourne Supremacy
Blade 2
Bad Boys 2
The Dark Knight

etc

That's the trend. And why Cristopher Nolan is being very careful with the next Batman,

There's maybe, maybe one there that is debatable. That's blade 2, and even then, i don't think there's much debate to be had. And the other ones? Shit you gotta be mentally disabled to even argue that say spiderman 1 was better than 2, or that x men 1 was better than 2, seriously.

Spider-man 2 is incredibly slow.  It's like an hour before anything interesting happens.  That's acceptable in Spider-Man since it's an origin flick.  I loved Doc Ock, but it just seemed to take forever for SM2 to get moving.
Title: Re: B MINUS MOVIE EVENT OF THE YEAR HAS ARRIVED!

I think the biggest improvement from first to second film is the general action of the movies.  The fights and stuff in Spider-Man 2 and X-men 2 were better than the first films, but I still didn't like them as much as the first films.
Title: Re: B MINUS MOVIE EVENT OF THE YEAR HAS ARRIVED!
Post by: fistfulofmetal on February 01, 2009, 05:50:46 PM
then there's all the horrible romance shit between two people who collectively have about as much charisma as a porch. In Spiderman 1 Tobey just jumped around going 'WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!" a lot, and that was fine. He was having fun being Spiderman.

Maybe you are really into origins stories. I've heard that before, some people just love origins stories. I personally don't, and the general feel about it, from reviewers and directors and screenwriters, is that the origins stories comes with a bag of requirements, while sequels are where you can just go wild and have fun, because you no longer have to worry about introducing the world and the rules and the character.

But to say that generally sequels are considered worse is just bs. It's the opposite. Sure you always have your Die Hard 2 or your men in black 2, but then you have your Terminator 2, and in my opinion, Aliens, and the others i've mentioned, which is no longer just my opinion.

You just like origins.

That's why I don't like SM2.  It's paced like an origin story when we already had a movie dedicated to that.  SM2 didn't need a lengthy beginning.
Title: Re: B MINUS MOVIE EVENT OF THE YEAR HAS ARRIVED!
Post by: cool breeze on February 01, 2009, 05:56:59 PM
I don't think it's just because I like origin stories, but probably more because in sequels they usually feel the need to expand on the character more, usually more than I care for.  Plus, I liked Blade 1 more than the sequel and it wasn't an origin story.

I also don't think there is a pattern for these movies.  The only thing I can really say for sure is that in Iron Man 2, I'm already not a fan of the casting change.
Title: Re: B MINUS MOVIE EVENT OF THE YEAR HAS ARRIVED!
Post by: WrikaWrek on February 01, 2009, 05:59:32 PM
Blade 1 also dealt with the origins of the character. And in any case, i'm talking about introduction of the whole deal.

And Blade 2 is much better than Blade 1. I don't know, just thinking about it makes my head hurt, i'll respect your opinion, but i'm just you know, like yeaaaaaahhh....at the whole notion.

Sucks to be you.

Spider Man 2 was pretty awful and stupid.  What a brilliant idea it was to have him stop being Spider-Man for like an hour of the film.

I really don't think you wanna start a LIST WAR over whether or not sequels are generally good, because you would lose pretty quickly.

I only saw Spiderman 1 and it was enough to put me off the series.

I hope TF2 has more Transformers and less things-that-aren't-Transformers.  If they do it'll be automatically better than the first.

The bay commentary on transformers is one of the most amazing things ever. It is him ranting for 2 hours about how amazing he is and how skilled he is at just about everything (he goes on a 15 minute rant about how awesome he is at getting actors to sign contracts, better than any casting agent...etc). It's incredible.  :lol

I don't care about the toys, and I fully acknowledge that the cartoons were shit. I still hated Bayformers, thanks to its unlikable characters and script, awful misuse of John Turturro, robot action scenes that looked like I dumped out my silverware drawer, and finally the LENGTH.

Oh, and :piss robot pissing scene :piss2

I see no reason to try to enjoy a dumb Bay movie when there's nothing enjoyable about it.  I'm sure this will be exactly the same, so I won't let anybody drag me to it this time around.

I didn't really watch the show growing up, so I have no nostalgia for the show. I didn't like the Bay adaption at all, apart from the beginning with Bumblebee trying to get Shia LaDouche laid (that should have been the whole movie). Some girl who likes me is a total Transformers fangirl, she will probably want to drag me to this. GI Joe is the one nostalgic movie I'm anticipating this year (I've given up on T4 already)

I don't care how popular it was. The movie was terrible and further evidence to be submitted for Transformers media being a shallow premise used to sell admitly cool toys. But what adult has the blank mental canvas to still enjoy playing with action figures?
