Free always sounds awesome until you go somewhere and they have a line out of the store and the overworked, understaffed workers are dishing up half-assed product.

yeah I can't see this being a good idea unless you like to wait for two hours in line talking to the kind of people that spend hours a day watching their email for freecycle shit or on fatwallet discussing the best way to use a fucking staples coupon to buy and flip on ebay a pack of batteries.

Free food events are horrible. They're not worth enduring the time, aggravation, and smell.

Burger King had a good free event a few years ago when they changed their fries. You could just drive up to the drive thru and grab your fries and go. No long waits and the fries were okay (not great).
I think they have changed their recipe since then.

If you live in Canada, free burger day at Harveys is the best day of the summer. You can just pull up in a car, say you have 10 people in the car, and drive away with 10 free burgers in no time at all.

last week chik-fil-a was giving away a different free breakfast item every day mon-fri
i normally eat there once or twice a week since it's so close by and no one ever eats breakfast there, but last week the drive-through line was wrapped around the building every morning (twice on the day they gave away chicken biscuits)
like any of those people are ever going to eat there again after they get their free shit
i was so pissed about getting my regular morning fix jammed up by scavengers that i considered complaining on the website, but then i realized that would just make me a giant douche

I went by the dennys on the way to drop my girl off at work and the line it had around it was insane. Glad i'm not eating that thing though. I might have been tempted if the line wasnt so damn long.

I got up early today so I could swing by and have breakfast. The line was out the door and easily 25-30 feet long. The police had just showed up as well (probably trouble with the assholes in line). Even with this going on and the parking lot clearly full, cars continued to pour in. This was at around 10 in the morning, after most people would be at work.
What kind of dumbfuck is going to stand in line in the cold for 30-60 minutes for a "free" breakfast that regularly costs $6?
Answer: the kind of dumbfuck that will probably leave a bad tip or no tip at all. I feel sorry for all their waitstaff, since today was just a clusterfuck that probably netted them mostly attitude and not much money.
I swung by Cracker Barrel and it looked like they got a good deal of the overflow -- they told me it'd be a 10 minute wait for a singe-person table, which is pretty strong business for that hour of the morning. I said "Fuck it" and bought a McGriddle.
