The next "Red Dead" western game finally unveiled
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=207421
Developed by Rockstar San Diego, as a follow up to the 2004 hit game, Red Dead Revolver, Red Dead Redemption is a Western epic, set at the turn of the 20th century when the lawless and chaotic badlands began to give way to the expanding reach of government and the spread of the Industrial Age. The story of former outlaw, John Marston, Red Dead Redemption takes players on a great adventure across the American frontier.
"The team at San Diego have massively exceeded our expectations with the sheer depth of experiences in Red Dead Redemption," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "The seamless combination of breathtaking beauty and intense action, all woven together with strong plotlines in a massive vibrant, rural environment is mind-blowing. We think this game helps to push the limits of what an open-world gaming experience can be."
Utilizing Rockstar's proprietary Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE), Red Dead Redemption features an open-world environment for players to explore, including frontier towns, rolling prairies teeming with wildlife, and perilous mountain passes - each packed with an endless flow of varied distractions.
Along the way, players will experience the heat of gunfights and battles, meet a host of unique characters, struggle against the harshness of one of the world's last remaining wildernesses, and ultimately pick their own precarious path through an epic story about the death of the Wild West and the gunslingers that inhabited it.

YES!
Loved the first Red Dead. GTA4 was awesome, and after yesterday, confirmation that real games are still being made is welcome.
Not trolling, but I thought this was that IP Rockstar showed at E3 2005? The Rockstar PS3 exclusive owed Sony?
-
I'm excited for this. I really liked Red Dead on the Xbox, but I am a tiny bit worried since Rockstar has failed me with two other franchises I liked brought to the 'next-gen'

The sony exclusive was supposedly a new franchise from Rockstar and if it was red dead i think they would have just said it from that time.

Rockstar have since said that the PS3 exclusve is a new IP.

Oh, hell yesh. Red Dead Revolver was a lot of fun. I liked being able to choose missions freely, but not traveling to them GUN was fun enough, but The Epic Old West and Great Expanses of Prairie felt about the size of Torrance, California.
-
wooooooooooo

I really liked the first game. I hope this is good.

Speaking of GUN...whatever happened to GUN 2??
I was a big fan of both GUN and Red Dead...this is pretty good news in my opinion.

Gun was one of those games that was so close to being great. Heck, Red Dead Revolver is kinda in the same boat, although I liked Red Dead more.
-
of the three big western games of last gen, I think Gun was the worst one. Red Dead was my second favorite. The true king was Oddworld Stranger.
-
Red Dead was high octane western action. I really liked it.
And i love what i'm seeing/reading from the sequel.

Where does Call of Juarez place?
-
Oh, last gen. Well, how was Call of Juarez anyway?
-
Call of Juarez had a good story. Linear gameplay though.
-
the xbox version of RDR is $5 used at gamestop, imma go get it tonight and give it a try

I only played the demo of that. It seemed okay for he most part and the quick draw stuff they did was cool.
I admit that I have a bias towards less serious takes on the Wild West rather than what Gun and Call of Juarez was doing. That's one reason why I like Red Dead, Wild Guns, Oddworld Stranger, Outlaws, etc. more than the more 'gritty' serious takes of how it was.

It was planned and going through pre-pro, but abandoned in favor of some other game Neversoft went on to do. I think it was GH3? Anyway, I recently read that in one of Neversoft's games there's a poster for the GUN 2 sequel, but TSoG isn't finding it for me.

Call of Juarez - the demo was ass-tacular. Dry, bad graphics, little sense of place. I felt bad for the development team.
-
Call of Juarez was OK. The main problem for me was a couple of places with some awkward platforming when you had to retry a jump many times.
If you could deal with those bits, it had some neat things. Doing some bible thumping to debilitate your foes was hilarious.

Big time!!
I can remember climbing up that mountain, and having to look down directly at the character's feet to time the jumps. It just felt completely awkard being first person and having to constantly be looking down at "your" feet.
