Title: anyone seeing Coraline?
Post by: recursivelyenumerable on February 05, 2009, 11:33:53 PM
it looks at least decent and I used to hang out a bit with a few animators and staff from the studio, one of the producers would flirt with me and stuff.  go portlanimation!

I'll wait for the blu-ray. Don't want to make myself look like a pedophile by going to see this alone.

I wouldn't mind seeing it, but I'll probably wait for the blu-ray.  I'm not sure if there's a 3D showing around here.

Apparently my parents tried this at My Blood Valentine with the glasses they got from Center of The Earth. They were the exact same glasses, but the theater made them pay again for a new pair.

I like Gaiman and I liked Nightmare before X'mas and sorta-enjoyed Corpse Bride, so I'll be checking this out in 3d tomorrow.  Hope it's good!

****/****

So good.  The art direction and visuals are amazing.  Henry Selick shines even more when Burton isn't on board.  He does the Macabre stuff quite well but also brings the visuals innteresting directions that Burton films could never reach.  The story is great and it's just a wild imaginative adventure.  I feel like anyone who grew up on old Lucasarts adventure games like Maniac Mansion or Sam & Max will adore this film as it plays out like you are playing a point n' click adventure game.  Brought back a lot of nostalgia.

Also this is the first film I've seen in 3d where the 3d ENHANCED the film.  Instead of being gimmicky it just gave the entire film a pop-up book depth effect which fit PERFECTLY with what the film was.

saw it. liked it. pretty much a giant gaiman cliche, but it was amusing and really well done nonetheless.

Saw it. Read the book beforehand because I'm a Gaiman slut. The book was pretty bad, but it was still better than that trainwreck Neverwhere.

The movie was great, though. Enjoyed it more than any of Dreamworks' films and I liked it more than Wall-E.

can anyone confirm it's better than Corpse Bride? most disappointing film of all time

but this dude directed Nightmare Before Christmas, not Burton so who knows. Looks good

Better than Corpse Bride. Definitely Corpse Bride was trashy as fuck.

Almost as good as Nightmare.

Was it better than James and the Giant Peach?

I saw it and enjoyed it. It was better than Corpse Bride but not not good as Nightmare.

Worth it alone just to see it in 3D.

i liked it better than nightmare, but then i really dislike most musicals.

Saw this last night and loved it.  Lovely characterizations, a feast of things to see, and less strained melodrama than Nightmare.

:piss Corpse Bride :piss2
