Title: WB should be kicked in the junk until they release a Tex Avery/MGM collection.
Post by: Joe Molotov on February 06, 2009, 10:57:01 PM
Who's with me? The Droopy box set was a good start, but I'm gonna need the rest. Now that they're done releasing annual Looney Tunes collections and all the Fleischer Popeye shorts have been released, this should be their next major project.

Joe, what Chuck Jones stuff do the looney tunes sets have?

Do they got these classics?

Is it just straight Looney Tunes with Bugs, Daffy, Porky and co. or is the whole shebangabang including Merry Melodies (I Like To Sing-A) and the ones posted above?

Speaking of Chuck Jones and MGM...

Man, I think I've seen the entire "__________ of Tomorrow" series and I haven't heard of this one.

Although they use the Looney Tunes brand, the Looney Tunes Golden Collections are actually a mix of LT and Merrie Melodies. It's still mostly the mainly character like Bugs, Daffy, Porky, etc., and they're mostly centered around the 40's & 50's, but they're good collections; they're worth owning.

Wiki has a good list of all the cartoons they include and what volume they're on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Looney_Tunes_Golden_Collection

Well, I think 40's and 50's era Looney Tunes is the greatest piece of animation out there so no complaints.

I've been meaning on checking em out but I wanted to wail till they were done with the sets. Now that they're done, it's all game.

60's Looney Tunes can be good too tho. It just depends. Late 60's (near the end of the run) not so much.

yeah, I looked around myself.  I don't think it was a Tex Avery one.  I remember it posted in a neogaf version of this thread or just something about old cartoons.

Yeah, the collections are like the best-of-the-best with a good smattering of solid, lesser-seen shorts. They won't disappoint, except for the handful of people who were upset about not getting chronological sets (which is just insane if you actually think about what that would entail).
