Publisher Namco Bandai has transferred development of its upcoming Splatterhouse franchise reboot away from independent developer Bottlerocket Entertainment and to its own in-house teams.
"Last Friday, Namco showed up with a U-Haul truck, took all their assets (dev kits, etc.) and informed management that the title was being pulled from Bottlerocket," a representative from the studio told Gamasutra, confirming widespread rumors that originated with an anonymously-sourced report from consumer weblog Kotaku.
"Yes, we have decided to part ways with BottleRocket Entertainment," a rep for Namco Bandai told Gamasutra, "but we are committed to bringing Splatterhouse to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 later this year."
"At this time, we are not ready to discuss specific development details about the game, and wish BottleRocket the best of luck in their future endeavors," said the rep. Reports that Namco Bandai's Afro Samurai team will now head up the title remain unverified.
Bottlerocket is not believed to have had any further projects in development at present; its other project in development was reportedly Brash Entertainment's title based on DC Universe's Flash, lost in the collapse of the now-defunct publisher. As such, the future of Bottlerocket currently remains unclear.
The Carlsbad, CA studio was formed in 2002 by the core team behind Sony-published The Mark of Kri and its sequel, Rise of the Kasai.

Well this kinda sucks. 'The Mark of Kri' and 'Rise of the Kasai' were both really, really great games. Hopefully this doesn't cause them to shut down because I'd like to see more from them.
Maybe Samuel L. Jackson can be the voice of Rick.

Fake

That's a shame. Even though I have low expectations for this it's sad to see Bottlerocket go. The new trailer doesn't scream "Splatterhouse" to me but some of the moments (wall jumping, body dismemberment) makes it seem like it could be a decent C grade game.
Fake
It is?

Yeah, that doesn't read like a legit news story.
U-haul trucks? Really?

I heard the news over at Kotaku. (http://kotaku.com/5149892/namco-confirms-ditching-splatterhouse-developers) If they're right, then it appears that Bottlerocket was missing deadlines and turning in material that wasn't up to snuff. Uh-oh, and this game was on my radar for a bit... :yuck

Team Afro? :lol Sucks for Bottle Rocket. Add me to the list of MOK fans
-
afro samurai was shit and this game already looked like shit. what does that = for this games future now?
-
If it's true - which it's not - I'd imagine they got dicknipples over Afro's slice-em-up tech and is all "imagine that... on a demon"
-
Btw, I got all 1000 on Afro. I am the #1 Afro Samurai fan. Don't question me.
-
afro samurai wasn't even a solid rental. which is why i sent that bitch back to gamefly unfinished

Well, I'm sorry, but you're gay and I'm #1

I'm not going to lie. I don't know why Namco even brought back Splatterhouse in the first place. The third one was the only good one, mainly because it aped Streets of Rage with good results.
They should bring back Rolling Thunder.

I'm gonna buy 5 copies of Afro Samurai

I dunno; I never gave MOK a fair shake, and wish I had. I mean, didn't Sony freakin' PATENT the combat system in it?
But that preview trailer of Splatterhouse was giving me Malice flashbacks - {generic 3rd person action title} -- "hm, looks TOO generic, let's rotate the camera around the gameplay so it doesn't look as static."

Bottlerocket Lives! (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/12/ex-splatterhouse-dev-speaks-out-confirms-new-project/)
At least for now.
[The] development team is looking forward to turning their attention to a new project soon to be announced.
Now that project could be digging through garbage dumpsters and collecting the redeemable bottles and cans, but its also possible that they are still gainfully employed in some way or another. Hooray for small victories!

demi destroyed. Try again tomorrow when the next company is or isn't in limbo!

I can't say I care about Splatterhouse much, but Mark of Kri was solid so it's unfortunate their new game isn't coming out soon.
