Info GameInformer
- Unlike God of War 1 and 2 where there are only 15 enemies on screen, there will now be around 50 this time.
- You can ride monsters like the Cyclops.
- Kratos on the PS2 used 5,000 polygons, now he uses 20,000.
- With different weapons, you don't get just a couple different attacks, but a whole different play style.
- The lion gauntlets are called Cestus.
- Enemy AI's are a lot smarter. Some of the enemies will be "commanders" and control the other grunts.
- Enemies will look different, even if they're the same type. Like, even though the skeleton soldiers are in the same category, they will have varied looks, so it's not like everyone looks the same.
- More boss fights than GoW 1, but less than GoW 2.
- No multiplayer.
- Hades boss fight confirmed.
-
updated the OP with the gameinformer scans
-
Best game ever.
-
less boss fights than gow2 :(
-
GoW2 had too many imo
-
I wish there was some kind of co-op, and am I the only one not impressed by the crappy scans?
-
GoW2 had too many imo
You can't have too many. Boss fights are the reason action games exist.
See: Resident Evil 4, DMC3.
-
sounds and looks awesome
GoW2 had too many imo
yeah, for me it was around the cerberus fight when I started to wonder if this was another boss fight or not. I can't even recall most of the boss fights from GoW2. GoW1 did have too little boss fights though, so a good balance would be nice.
-
I can't find II in stores so I haven't played it :'(
-
I love action games, but I could never find the GoW games compelling. I would get bored in the second level and quit.
-

So basically the PS3 is 4 PS2's duck taped together.

This man speaks the golden truth.

If you think of them as action adventure and not pure action, you'll fare off better I think. Because compared to other action games like NG, they're just tame.

Better than two GC's duct-taped together.

those scans don't work

If you think an action game has too many bosses, it's probably because it's a shit action game. Bosses are distilled gameplay, and they are the best example of whether that game's mechanics work.
A POS like GOW could easily be accused of having too many bosses, because each boss is just bone simple patterns and distinguished mentally-challenged fellow friendly QTE events. Of course you'd get tired of boring fight after boring fight with a pornographically violent game of Simon topping off each one.
-
Both RE4 and DMC3 have perfectly paced boss encounters. DMC3 is not more than 1 per mission and if you consider RE4 to have the Lake Monster, El Gigante, the Village Chief, Salazar, It, and Krauser (you could even throw in Saddler but whatever), it's still like 1 boss every 2 hours and the average is way skewed at the end of the game. GoW2 has too many bosses for its length...the bosses don't get that build up.
And nobody except action game nuts delve into what you're talking about with the satisfaction of bosses based on mechanics. A random sample of gamers would probably have the Colossus as people's favorite GoW2 boss (a QTE) and the Hydra as their favorite GoW1 boss (not a QTE but fairly repetitive). I think the sense of accomplishment is diminished when you only play 20 minutes in between bosses.
I think Sony's "official" listing of bosses is like 14. I think there's legitimately about 8.
-
Yeah, DMC3 has one boss per mission. And like 20 missions.
Anyway I don't get your second point. Only distinguished mentally-challenged fellows amused by pretty flashes of color disagree? That's fine.
-
I can see someone liking Hydra the bet if only for the amazing transition from walking into it's mouse. then again, it was done way better in the climbing out of hell scene.
and too many bosses can be a bad thing when they all just feel like stronger enemies compared to real challenges. Only a handful of fights in GoW2 feel like they require you to do something different.
-
The Hydra was awesome because of the presentation. Fighting simplicity be damned, the creature was awesome.
-
Add MGS3 to the awesome boss list.
-
Both Dante and Nero look better than that Kratos.
-
The Colossus in stage 1 of GoW2 was amazing and one of the greatest moments of last gen. I wouldn't count it as a boss though considering it's a stage that you platform through.
IIRC the Zeus fight was either really good or really terrible. I can't remember which.
-
It was really terrible
.
-
I remember having trouble ending the Zeus fight because of the QTE
-
Yeah the Zeus fight I remember half ruining GOW2 for me. Everything else was pretty great
-
"Unlike God of War 1 and 2 where there are only 15 enemies on screen, there will now be around 50 this time."
I dunno what to think about this. More enemies aren't always better.
if that whole "commander" thing works like it should it could be very interesting.

Aside from being bullshots, they look about what's expected.

If used very selectively, it could be fine. It's one of those things that should never become the norm, however, as that will result in monotony.

extended version of that spike trailer. Still old stuff, but watching the interview, that fighting on titan stuff with shifting battlegrounds seems like it will be in gameplay too.
game looks amazing
-
That "Trailer" was fucking awesome. I am now officially excited for this game.
-
Coming out in June this year :hyper
-
That's hot. But what is Kratos so pissed off about this time? It feels like he'd just be sort of bitter and surly these days.
Coming out in June this year :hyper
wat :omg
Leper Swaggaz >:(
-
Coming out in June this year :hyper
the announcement of the release date is coming out in June.
not the actual game
-
Probably an xmas game then.
-
fuck...
my mistake. Blame them for saying that there was a release date for the release date.
-

Isn't Zeus his father?
Didn't that fine looking "goddess" die to save Kratos, and it was zeus or something that killed her? So i guess he was pissed about him killing his family, now he's pissed because his daddy didn't acknowledge him or some shit?
-
Right, but you'd figure that at some point, he'd just become burned out and bitter about it. Obviously, the dude can't catch a break (without a serious catch), so why fucking bother? Any reasonable man would have gone on a last mission to collect enough treasure and whatnot to support all the wine and floozies he'd need.
-
The trailer was so cool, great animation and cool scenes.
-
Yeah i kind wish he just turned a page into the "You've turned me into a villain, now you shall fear me" zone. I mean he can just be this villain, and go around doing shit.
He doesn't have to be like all emo about it, enjoy it for once.
-
extended version of the trailer is much cooler than that first one we got
-
Alright, fuck what I said when I saw that first teaser trailer. This game looks like hot sex.
-
holy shit at the trailer
-
:piss action games with qtes :piss2
-
:piss action games with qtes :piss2
Honestly though, GOW is about the only line of games where I don't mind it. Other than that Zeus fight, that is.
-
holy shit. ok that was one badass trailer.
-
Other action games annihilated, GOW is back.

:bow Draft :bow2
right on the money as usual
-
Nothing wrong with QTE's if they're done right. And RE4 and GOW do them right.
-

action games in 2009 :bow2
bayonetta :bow2
GoW3 :bow2
-
Looks like God of War, that means overabundance of QTEs and flashiness over substance.
zzzzzzzz
Hopefully Kamiya delivers with Bayonetta, otherwise this gen is looking shit for action games.
-
I just saw the trailer on PSN and it looks alright. I'm not a fan of the lack of "hey weapon is hitting enemy" and just having a blood spurt as the guy flies away, but otherwise it was looking very solid. I just hope there's more color in the full version as the trailer was a little too gray.
