Title: Video for class project (since I bitched about youtube, you guys get to see it)
Post by: Bloodwake on February 13, 2009, 12:25:41 PM
So, I put a thirty second clip of Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way" in a fucking Youtube video I posted, and they blocked the sound for copyright reasons. A video search later, I find ten videos of the complete song live.

Youtube FTL.

They've got some kind of filtering system up to appease rights holders.  Depending on agreements, it seems that audio tracks are removed, "to buy" links are added, videos are blocked regionally, and/or embedding is disabled.

Of course, it won't be perfect, and there will be ways to get around it, but it's all downhill from here.

Yea, I've been downloading all my favorite music links over the past 3 weeks. As the filters get better, I fear the more they will take off.

As soon as Google bought them you knew their glory days--albeit for very short days--were over.

I've had two of my videos muted so far.  It sucks.

This is fucking distinguished mentally-challenged.

Evidently Polaris (the Pete and Pete band) isn't flagged.

It takes them a while to cycle through the stuff.  They grabbed my WoW video with Dragonforce in it a while back, and recently muted my Dear Milo video with Imogen Heap.   :'(

Ooh whatcha saayyy ooh.

So, since I made such a big deal about it, and at tehjaybo's suggestion, here's the video I did for a class project. Keep in mind that I literally edited it together in about four hours  (including the shitty VO) and I want to change a lot before it actually sees the light of day as a "serious" documentary. For one, I won't be calling my emo kid brother a "punk sibling"

Wait...

"Where they could go to hear christian music..."

It was a christian youth center.  However, there were a lot of secular bands.  And people didn't really go there for the christianity (I myself am agnostic).  They went there because people cared, and because they felt at home there.

Oh, I'm not negating that. Just found that... out of place.

You kind of have to know Sam...

Yeah. Sam is a preacher who has a GI Joe fetish and loves to play Magic the Gathering. Wrap that one around your head.

The youth center was "nondenominational" which is London, KY terms for secular. There were prayer meetings that resembled meditation sessions (awesome) and the staff who ran it were awesome. I actually was inspired to become a pacifist because of the man who ran it.
