And that there will be a massive amount of denial about it because there's a lot of faithfulness to the source material in the flick. But that won't change the fact that the movie's been Snyderized. Oooh, slow mo action scenes that speed up and unrealistic crap happening! AWESOME!
I'm gonna go ahead and post a preemptive :smug
-
You decided that it was going to suck months ago. Don't be so :smug
-
It was destined to suck as soon as Snyder was attached to direct. And Ive never read the graphic novel, so I have no delusions or bias against an adaptation; I just dont think Snyder is much of a filmmaker. I still plan to see it though, so we'll see if he can prove me wrong.
-
I knew it would suck since the first trailer showed me that this would be another slow motion orgy, the new shitty ending is just very thick icing on a shit cake.
-
I thought 300 was over-rated and the constant hype about that movie confused me, yet I am oddly looking forward to this. Although the slow-mo nonsense in the trailers drives me insane.
-
I also liked 300. It was a good adaptation. And I totally disagree with Solo, because Snyder has shown in a short amount of time that he's a good director. He's got the skills.
I can understand not digging 300 based on the source material, but I thought he did a damn fine job adapting it.
-
I guess I'm one of the few internet people who really liked 300. Strangely, just about everyone I know in real life loved it, even some real girlie girl types. But it's cool to hate on that movie, and I'm down with that.
you probably just don't hang out in :tophat circles irl.
-
I don't know what everyone is complaining about. 300 is good gay softcore porn.
-
you get to see the lady from Harold and Kumar naked again, so B+
-
300 the movie was too long for the content, too slow-mo, and worse and even more offensive than the source material. And that takes some doing.
-
If the Watchmen movie was made 20 years ago it would have been awesome. It's too bad.
Also, if Konami or Capcom made that Watchmen beat-em-up 15 years ago, it would have been so awesome.
-
I actually like 300 the book but hate it the movie, I was expecting some brutal fights and a lot of ultraviolence but all I got was cg blood and slow mo.
-
I thought 300 was pretty good.
I probably will skip this one. I'm kind of burned out on superhero movies. The last one I saw was The Spirit, which may have resulted in my current attitude towards comic book flicks.
-
Wasn't there a review that said there's actually not a lot of slow motion stuff?
-
I really don't mind slow motion. I prefer it to the other modern conventions being abused in cinema, namely shaky cam and quick cuts, especially when they are coupled together.

yes. I fucking hate that.
-
The worst thing like that is when they do random speed-ups during fight scenes and stuff, as seen in On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Romeo + Juliet
I'm so glad that never really caught on.

No movie illustrates this point better than the The Bourne Supremacy
-
All depends on the movie, the style you are going for.
Bourne shaky cam works awesome. But i can see why a select few won't like it at all. Slow Motion is another one that can work awesome, depending on the movie.
There's no "This technique sucks, period" truth. Long continuous shots ruled in Children of Men, but it doesn't mean they rule in other movies.
etc etc
Eagle Eye is an example of badly delivered shaky cam and quick edits.

I heard the ending was changed. :smug

I hardly think that we have to take seriously the opinion of a man who enjoyed Transformers... in an unironic way, no less. :smug
Honestly, the ending thing doesn't really bother me at all. What bothers me is that Zack Snyder is about as talented as Eli Roth.
-
The score will be amazing, though.

Also: I SAW YOU READING THIS THREAD, PATEL! COME BACK YOU WANKER!

Seeing 300 on opening day was easily the most exciting theater experience I've ever had. Fun, fun movie. I'm not saying it's some classic film, but that's a badass movie, especially for this pussy 21st century.
Reviews: there's not a lot of slo mo in the film
I'm looking forward to it
-
If Watchmen were in 3D, it would easily be MOTY.
-
I was a fan of 300 (even though I laughed uncontrollably the entire time Xerxes was on screen, much to the embarrassment of my friends), and I'm looking forward to Watchmen even though it will probably suck because I'm reading it for a class just before it comes out.

the cheesy voice overs/music, plus the "visionary" comment about Snyder make this a freaky oscar bait tv spot or something

Or just banking on TDK style since movie goers seemed to kinda like that movie.
-
what does that mean?
-
The whole visionary type of selling, which as you call oscar bait was often put on TDK with nolan being some sort of director for the ages.
-
I'm just gonna quote myself
300 was stupid and boring and bad. It's just like the source material, so that's Frank Miller's fault.
But you gotta wonder about anyone who read the graphic novel and found it so inspiring that they had to make a painstakingly faithful film adaptation.
Also the aesthetic and the tone are really important. If the cinematography and editing are screaming "HEY! Look at the ICONS of comics! On the BIG SCREEN!" it's going to be a severe drag on the movie, plot faithfulness aside.
Look at the Keira Knightley version of P&P. 90%+ of the dialogue is direct Austin, the important scenes all made it in, and I could still fill an entire subforum here with threads bitching about that movie.
-
I'm leaning towards the Triumph opinion, but I'm in denial, because Watchman fucking kicked all sorts of ass and, if done right, it could be a good movie.
-
Why are they calling Snyder a visionary? because he directed a shitty movie on a green screen or because he did a not as good as the original remake?
-
300 is for 14 year old boys. I'm sure this will be too. It's cool if you can still tune (in or out) into that mindset, I can't anymore.
-
If anything, the faithful adaptation of all the various scenarios in the comic should be fun to look at.

and alan moore finally kills himself

wow
-
If Alan Moore was REALLY a magician he'd be able to make DC let Watchmen go out of print :smug

What will people who've never read Watchmen even think of this film? What will it be like for them to sit through these crazy, violent, colorful three hours and not recognize almost every line – almost every image? Will they be utterly baffled, bored, or totally love it? Is Watchmen even a good or bad movie? I have no idea. I stand powerless before the Gods I once worshiped in my attic bedroom, now moving and talking and fighting and loving on a giant screen. And I find myself unable to judge them.
For me, and I suspect many others, the movie won't provoke the feeling you get from seeing a great movie, (which Watchmen very well may be). For me, Watchmen isn't a movie at all. It's a surreal mind-trip the likes of which my 14-year-old self would never have believed. Now, the special thing that still feels like only I know about has been given to the whole world. I hope they like it.

. :smug
Yea, I know it's a douchey thing to say, but that's how I feel.
-
Zack Snyder rules. And if you disagree you are a prissy "art nerd" who can only bench press like 5 pounds.
-
Whatever, dude. I'm a hairy, burly drunk that can bench press AT LEAST 10 pounds. And Snyder is still a no talent hack until he proves otherwise.

I don't think he's a particularly skilled storyteller, but he has a beautiful visual agenda. I could stare at his films all day. Watchmen isn't going to be 8 1/2. Hell, it isn't even going to be Watchmen (EL NOVEL). But it will be beautiful and captivating and that's all I ask.

lower those expectations

whoa acting
why is ozymandias mumbling his lines, i couldn't understand shit
-
Looks good to me, aside from the "why?" slow mo use in the comedian clip. Slow mo did nothing for the clip, it's like seeing a fart in slow motion.
Slow motion doesn't make everything better.
-
looks amazing as expected.
preordering my tickets pretty soon
-
Yeah wtf is with Ozymandias's voice :-\
Joblo has another clip that's cool... it looks pretty good aside from dumb use of slo-mo and Veidt's weird accent thing.
I'll watch it in the theater.
