Title: Circuit City liquidation sale is worth it now for game deals
Post by: Eel O'Brian on February 15, 2009, 12:16:52 PM
I decided to sell most of my 360 games and convert to the PC versions (if available), so I thought I'd swing by CC and see if the deals had gotten any better

yes, they have

all software and games are 40% off now, and that includes newer console and PC  games like Fallout 3, MGS4, COD: WaW, Red Alert 3, etc.

just be sure and get a price check - for instance, Medal of Honor Airborne still had a $39.99 sticker on it, but it was actually only $6

picked up The Witcher for $17 while I was there

my CC actually had a ton of stock still coming in, as well

my CC didn't really have shit anymore when I went last week, tho I did pick up a copy of portal for $3.  I'm kinda tempted to go back up there to pick up Dragon Quest IV and the new Castlevania if they're 40% off (even though both aren't supposed to be very good), but it's like a 40-minute drive.  damn

Hmm, guess I'll check it out.  Wonder if they've got Tales of Vesperia at the CC in Wilmington.

it's a jumbled mess, PS3/360/Wii games are all mixed together from people picking up stuff and then putting it back down wherever (or trying to hide it)

Hmm there are some obscure games that I've been holding on.  Has anyone tried Mercury Meltdown Revolution? I heard it was good but most game stores don't have it.

I stopped by my CC yesterday and sifted through the PC section. It's pretty much completely intact with good deals at this point. I own basically everything I'd ever want in terms of PC games at this point, but stuff like age of empires 3 gold for $20 and such are super-good deals.

I will miss CC's PC section. They would clearance games and never relabel them. So, great games sit on the shelf because they have 49.99 stickers on them, but they actually cost less than 10 bucks. You just have to goto the register and check.

Last time I went to the nearest Circuit City it was basically TJ Maxx with electronics.  Don't think I'll bother going there again, even if I could probably find some decent deals.

Nah, it was still too clean and organized (before it went under) to really be up there with a place like TJ Maxx or Big Lots.

This is coming from someone who shops Big Lots twice a month, mostly for the wonderful ambiance of the store. It is just so refreshing to walk into a store that knows and is comfortable in its station, and doesn't have pretensions of being anything more than a spillover bin for the dirty poors and OCD bargain hunter types. It's so much better than Target or what not that tries to be trendy but feels so completely fake.

Last time I was there I got some twelve pack of like canned energy drinks. The catch is that each can is like 600 calories and is as big as the biggest beer can you can get from a convenience store. I keep it in my office-one day I will muster up the courage to down one and then go into convulsions, hoping my organs don't burst from my chest cavity.

I went to ours on Saturday morning. There wasn't anything on the console side (I was holding off on Prince of Persia and TR:Underworld, but no dice), but there was a ton of stuff still on the PC racks. There are also a ton of blurays!

Picked up Crysis Warhead, Red Alert 3, and King's Bounty. Almost got Age of Empires 3 Gold box, Sins of a Solar Empire and Imperium Romanum w/e, but I figured I didn't really need them.  :'(

I was tempted to get Sacred 2 PC for 40% off but my pc can't run it   :'(

BTW, console games were 30% off at mine. Considered getting Motorstorm 2 or Resistance 2 for $42 but didn't.

Yeah, it's pretty fun.. I like the marble-rolling genre and it beats the crap out of most 3rd party Wii titles.

Where can you find the locations of stores that are still open?  Most of the CCs around my area were closed a long time ago.

This was epic fail here. Well, I didnt actually go in the store because it was closed, but it was pretty much a wasteland from what I saw. I wont be bothering trying again.

They had a lot of copies of Far Cry 2 for $35.  I'd get it if I felt like playing a sandbox game.

FC2 is cheaper at Target (29.98)

I was at the CC in my city today, they still had loads of new games but were basically out of all the cheaper stuff. Almost 0 Wii games left, barely anything on 360 or PS3 actually on the shelves in the open. But in a locked glass case there were all sorts of new releases. Far Cry 2 is like $30-40 everywhere now. I wonder if they charge $60 still? It is Circuit City after all  ::)

Fuck, even 25% off, their PC components are a ripoff  :lol

My wife got it for me for Xmas, along with the Maracas... and I'm afraid to open it. :(

Picked up a Mass Effect Prima Guide for 50% off and a couple of DVDs at 40% off.  The games had been picked clean.

Hey eel, did you notice if the CC in town had any Fallout 3 guides left?

Guides are all 50% off but I didn't see any Fallout 3 guides at mine, that's another game I'd love to have a guide for.

The CC I visited today was surprisingly well stocked.  They still had quite a few copies of new games like Last Remnant, COD5, Far Cry 2, Rock Band 2 accessories and MMORPG gamecards.  Everything was 40% off so some good deals could still be found.

Hey eel, did you notice if the CC in town had any Fallout 3 guides left?

i'm sorry, man, i really didn't look, but i did glance at the rack as i passed by and there were still a ton of guides

a friend's wife "works" there (ha), though, and she said they still get stock shipped in from other stores as they close, so even if something's not there one day it could be on the shelf a few days later

when i went on sunday, the only thing that really stood out to me were the amount of PC, 360, PSP, and PS3 games still on the shelves - the wii stuff was stripped bare (the only game i saw of note was that metroid game), and the PS2 stuff was dwindling

the only 360 game from my list that I wasn't able to replace with a cheap PC/PS3 version was COD3

I got COD: WaW for $30, COD2 for $12, MoH Airborne for $6 (!), Orange Box for $17, and The Witcher for $17

you can certainly stock up on 360 games, though - i noticed a lot of older stuff

I almost picked up Crysis Warhead but passed (I'm starting to run into processor bottlenecks with newer games), and Red Alert 3 was $30 but you can already download that off Steam all day long for the same price

Steam lets you use retail keys and it will let you download it from there

i know, it just wasn't much of a deal, and i was hunting for discounts

Stopped by this morning cause I was out running errands over on that side of town and I picked up Ninja Gaiden 2 for like $18 after the discount, so that was a good deal.  I was toying with getting either Far Cry 2 or Soul Calibur IV but decided not to- if I'm gonna pay more than $30 for a game anytime soon it's likely to be either Street Fighter IV or Resident Evil 5.

I had to talk myself out of buying the Rat Pack Christmas cd.  They still had a lot of cds and dvds, but unlike the games they were in no discernible order so it was tough to find shit.  No Fallout 3 guide, but since I only have to get the 20 bobbleheads achievement left to get I'm probably gonna trade that in towards either RE5 or SFIV soon.

Goddamn, I got Mercs 2 for 15 cause I though it seemed fun.  Now I see online, it's 15 at newegg anyway, AND the game's a terrible broken port.  Great  :maf

I guess I'll try playing it anyway, but maybe not so soon  :-\
