Editor's Note: It Takes a Nation of Millions
In what is destined to be the first genuinely epic game of 2009, Resident Evil 5 is practically guaranteed to be the last of its kind, with the game's producer, Jun Takeuchi, assuring us that a reboot is in order for the inevitable Resident Evil 6. That's not to suggest that there's anything wrong with the evil at hand. Quite the opposite; it's awesome fun, and we've beaten the game from beginning to end, and have a week's worth of detailed, insider info for you to enjoy. Check out our exclusive interview, videos of unseen levels, and our final hands-on preview to see if Capcom's controversial new survival-horror game lives up to its legacy.

RPG.
-
Hidden-object game.
-
So after 2 games they decide for a reboot? Ok...
-
better just mean a reboot of the gameplay mechanics
i will be pist if i have to play as some nobody just like we had to in dmc4
-
Minigame collection
-
They probably want to get away from anything Mikami, lol. But if it's anything like what RE4 did for the series, I'm all for it!
Reading stuff like this makes it sound like RE5 is gonna be less-than-stellar though. :-\ Reminds me of when a Capcom guy was talking about Capcom Vs. SNK 2 before Capcom Vs. SNK had even been released, saying how it was going to have the stuff that CvS1 did NOT.
-
do you not like cvs2?
-
As much as I love how they turned the series into more of an action survival horror games, I'd like to see them ease up on the action parts for the next game. That old RE4 gamecube footage looked awesome, so just make it like that.
-
I realize that RE4 was a "reboot", but how many years did they stick with the shitty isometric camera? Oh well
-
Some sort of Fallout 3-esque sandbox world to explore would be pretty awesome. I would prefer it not be a fps, tho. I'm fps'ed out.
-
Anything is better than how it is now.
-
stfu, bebpo.
-
so they'll move into the 21st century for controls then?
-
good.
-
It's a reboot to the whole property i'm sure.
The story mainly, since it has developed so much cannon along the years, and so much has happened, and REs5 is coming back to the origins of the virus, and it's the final showdown between Chris and Wesker, so it makes sense to reboot it for the next one.
REs6 will probably start a new story.
-
Sounds good. RE has been awesome with every iteration so I doubt they'll make a mis-step.
-

Has this been said anywhere? It always seems like it's going to be the "final showdown," but that never happens. They never even made a game showing what happens after the events in Code: Veronica!
REs6 will probably start a new story.
Yes, but RE4 started a new story! :lol

Did it? I thought the main plot to RE4 was that Saddler was a pawn for Umbrella...maybe I'm wrong, I haven't gotten the end of my playthrough yet.
-
Everyone is a pawn of Umbrella, or looking to start their own organization (TRICELL in Resident Evil 5), in the Resident Evil universe
-
Reboot the story in new series, bring back more horror-y gameplay. Spin off action escort shit into new series.
-
do you not like cvs2?
??? Going by what I said, it should be "do you not like CvS1?". :)
-

iirc, originally RE5 was going to be more like that, or at least a lot closer than it is now. There was also supposed to be an entire thirst/heat system where Chris had to stay hydrated and find shade at times.
-

I dunno. It was a new virus yes, but not a new story. Especially since Ada took 5 plaga samples and the master sample to Wesker.

That would have been awesome.
Why didn't they go with this?
-
so they would have something to wish for in the future and never get, like the original RE4 footage

RE4 is incredible, but I still want to play that version
-
I hope they bring back the pre-rendered backgrounds and tank controls.
Let's be honest here. Every RE fan wants that. I do.
-
I would flip out if they made another RE with tank controls and CG backgrounds.
It would be the end of me.
I wouldn't be able to contain myself.
-
In a good or a bad way ;p
I'd love a new RE in REmake/RE0 style. I wouldn't even care if it were for the Wii. REmake and 0 still look stunning.
RE4 style is also good, and I expected RE5 to be basically the same. But after seeing co-op parter Shitva, RE5 went to the shitter for me.
Still want to play the game, though. But only because it's a new RE main game. :-\
-
they can't get rid of wesker
everyone else can go diaf
-
I think a new classic-style RE with tank controls would be awesome.
-
God, wtf is wrong with you people?
Tank controls. :yuck

A good way.
I love RE4. It's my favorite game ever.
But I love the old RE games too. There is no reason Capcom can't make both.
-
Uh, sure there is. Tank controls are fucking antiquated and lame.
-
RE4/5 still have tank controls; the difference between RE4 and older RE games is the camera perspective. And the ability to aim your gun, but that isn't so much with the body controls.
-
Uh, sure there is. Tank controls are fucking antiquated and lame.
Fuck off, bitter nerd.
RE series has like 20 million units sold. Tank controls resonate with the game buying public. Your desperate cries fall on deaf ears. Save the indignation for the clumsy sausages masquerading as your fingers.
-
You're right. How many copies of the 3-d Zeldas have been sold, though? Wow, I guess sane control systems are more popular, Triumph right again, tank control loving nerds fuck owned as usual.
-

Uh, probably not as many as RE there, bud. You're talking about two generations of Playstation specific megahits against the N64 and Gamecube's "megahits." Scuttle off now, this is out of your league.
-
That's like saying turn based RPG's >>> action RPG's.
The classic RE's still work if you're a fan of the gameplay. I still love the old RE style games to death.
The tank controls and crazy camera angles have their charm.
RE4 lost the "Resident Evil" after taking the different route imo.

Wrong AGAIN. 3-d Zeldas have sold 21 million+, lulz.
-
I wouldn't mind RES with Uncharted controls. The thing is, when you give that sort of response to the player, you really gotta step up your game on the enemies.
-
Fake backgrounds? :lol
Yes, I want tank controls and "fake backgrounds" in my Resident Evil. RE1, RE2, RE3, RE Code Veronica (in lesser extent) REmake and RE0 all have the classic controls and camera angles. And they were awesome.
I was pretty mad when they scrapped the first version of RE4 (classic style) and went with the current version. The game is a good game though, but a bad Resident Evil imo.
-
So what you're saying is that because older tvs weren't hd compatible, you don't want an hdtv. Truly, you hate progress.
-
So what you're saying is that because older tvs weren't hd compatible, you don't want an hdtv. Truly, you hate progress.
What's progress to you? There are different gameplay types, you know. Nothing wrong with classic RE game mechanics. A lot of people still like to play the games like that.
That's like complaining about rpg's who are turn-based and have random encounters. Action rpg's aren't a progress, they just work differently. RE4 isn't a progress, it's just different.
-
Yeah, people used to go fucking barefoot back in the days of the Bible but there's been tremendous advancements in technology since. Tank controls suck ass and weren't a "selling point" of the original RE games to a LOT of players. They were something that you liked the games IN SPITE OF as opposed to BECAUSE OF.
-
You remind me of a typical ntard who always shouts that waggle is progression.
-
That's fine, you remind me of my 10 year old autistic nephew.
-
There's no difference between a ntard and an autistic 10 year old. So that makes you basically the same as me?
But there's a difference between progression and trying something else.
Capcom tried something else with Re4. The outcome is good, but the change still didn't make RE4 the best RE game.
But whatever. I guess all games should become 3rd person action games eventually. That's some progression.

RE4 is the best Resident Evil game.
But that doesn't mean the old Resident Evil games are bad.
Controls aren't even a factor. I'm trying to run laps around zombies again.
-
I'm sure the 'reboot' will be a total lack of co-op / escorting and the ability to move while you shoot.
-
RE2 and Code Veronica are still the best RE games imo.
RE4 is good, but I had more fun with the other two.
-

So in other words, it will be awesome.

Your like the Republican of the RE universe.
"George W. Bush did a lot of great stuff."
-
The Wii is the future. The new RE will be all about minigames and motion control.
-

"George W. Bush did a lot of great stuff."
So what, a lot of people still think A link to the past is better than Ocarina of time. I being one of them. Even if OOT was a so called "progression"
FFVII was also a progression, but FFVI was equally good.
IMO, the biggest progression ever was GTA2>>>GTA3. But there are still people out there who enjoyed GTA2 more...
-
RE2 and Code Veronica are still the best RE games imo.
RE4 is good, but I had more fun with the other two.
I definitely agree that those two are the best RE games before the change in style. RE4 was the first time the series was really amazing for me, so I think that is the best game under the 'Resident Evil' moniker; still, RE4 and everything before it are quite different. I still think that there could be a mixture of the two styles and that's what those old RE4 videos looked like to me.
-
I don't know which RE is the best, but I just have to say that REmake was fucking incredible. I bought an import GC just for that game and it was worth every penny.

Screw RE5. I want those.:-\
-
I love how damn blue the police station is in RE1.5. That really impressed me when I was looking at pics of it back before the real RE2 came out.
-
RE4 was the greatest thing ever, but I'd be quite happy if they went back to the classic RE for a while. I adore both styles of game.
Not going to happen unfortunately. :(
