in this article some dude from EA says some shit about release dates or whatever and learning lessons, but the real story here is this excerpt:
And Schofield effectively confirmed that a sequel to sci-fi horror title Dead Space is in the works, remarking: "We haven't announced anything yet, but I don't think you take a game that's rated 89 and just go, 'Well, that was a failure'.

Wii version.
-
I havent finished the first one :-\
Would love it if they announced ME2 though
-
Uh, Grecco, the teaser trailer for Mass Effect 2 came out a week ago (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/45796.html) and BioWare is having a lecture about it at GDC. (https://www.cmpevents.com/GD09/a.asp?option=C&V=11&SessID=8854)
Dead Space 2 :rock
Day one. Finally teach those wankers at Capcom how to make a true survival horror game! This was kind of inevitable, though - EA seemed really keen on building new IPs and Dead Space, while it didn't set the world on fire, did sell more than a million units. Hardly what I'd call a bomb.
-
Dead Space? I liked it better when it was called Resident Evil.

Resident Evil wishes it controlled like Dead Space.
-
He's talking about Mirrors Edge guys :P
-
You guys do know my favorite game of last year was Mirrors edge right ? :-\
-
Awwww yeah! Real gaming is doing just fine.
-
Don't use acronyms for games that nobody cares about, especially when a far more popular franchise uses the same one.
Mirror's Edge sold like poop. No sequel there.
-
ME2 is a distinguished mentally-challenged acronym
-
I played the Mirror's Edge demo for about two minutes and then uninstalled it. :yuck

Dead Space didnt exactly burn up the charts either. :-\ Both games "underperformed" to expectations.

For serious

Mirrors Edge 2 was already confirmed. :lol
-
:rock OH YEAH :rock
He mentioned a sequel late last year, but I guess there was the possibility he was talking about the Wii game. Nice to hear solid confirmation.
GOTYwhenever-it-releases.

Dude, Dead Space sold over a million copies - not including comic books, DVDs, etc. It wasn't a Call of Duty blockbuster, but don't compare its success to Mirror's Edge impotence.
Mirror's Edge 2 has no real confirmation and EA is not going to waste its money and time on some dumb game that confuses colorblind people.
-
I guess the engine already being in place means they'll make a satisfactory profit. Maybe they'll try to add multiplayer modes to increase sales.
edit: Mirror's Edge was a cool concept, much moreso than firearms and mind magic in space. It would really benefit with a clearer focus on its strengths and releasing anytime but the holidays. Both games received a fuckton of advertising so there is no faulting EA for that.

Every time I try the RE5 demo, I expect it to control like Dead Space.
-
I don't think anyone expected Mirror's Edge to sell a lot; Mirror's Edge was like a pet project for DICE and it tanked.
and as much as I like Mirror's Edge, everything about its narrative was awful. The cutscenes, characters, story, writing and all that was just so rank. They can ditch all that for the sequel and it really wouldn't matter.

One of the most criminally overlooked issues with games.

Mirrors Edge got an animated Movie Prequel, comic books, and is getting a live action treatment as well?
I think Dead Space proves an all out media blitz isn't the most successful way to sell new IPs. Sounds like a waste of resources really. I think part of the problem is the marketing didn't communicate very well what type of game Mirror's Edge was, but that's me assuming shit again.
-
The media spinoff stuff did pretty well, though. The problem is that sold within certain demographics. Comic book nerds didn't necessarily buy the game. Eric P even recommended the comic to me and he was totally unaware that it was based off a game. Same thing with the DVD.
-
this time they need better mission objectives
"HEY ISAAC GO REPAIR THIS! GO CHECK THAT OUT! CAN YOU GO UP TO THAT CORRIDOR AND PULL THAT SWITCH? CAN YOU PLEASE GO FETCH THAT FOR ME?"
so generic and repetitive
I don't want to be a fucking plumber in the sequel
-
the fuck are you doing here
