I thought it's coming to XBLA also like Crystal Defenders.

RATING INFORMATION
FINAL FANTASY IV: The After Years
Platform: Wii
Rating: Everyone
Content descriptors: Alcohol Reference, Mild Fantasy Violence
Rating summary: This is a 2D role-playing game in which players embark on an adventure involving magical crystals and a mysterious kingdom. Players traverse across a field map or through dungeons and can enter into turn-based battles along the way. Players use a menu screen to select attacks or magic spells against tiny enemies (e.g., leopards, birds, knights, fish monsters, etc.) that blink and disappear when defeated. An item called "Bacchus Wine" is occasionally used to defeat enemies in battle.

IV blows.

I thought it's coming to XBLA also like Crystal Defenders.
i hope so
-
How many FF4 fans would care about this tripe? ::)
More importantly, how many FF4 fans own a wii?
-
Wasn't Crystal Defenders first announced as Wiiware and then for PSN/XBLA?
How many FF4 fans would care about this tripe? ::)
I care. FF4 is my favorite game of all time.
-
Crystal Defenders R1 (http://www.esrb.org/ratings/synopsis.jsp?Certificate=26403) and R2 (http://www.esrb.org/ratings/synopsis.jsp?Certificate=26412) are listed only for the Wii on the ESRB site.
so it looks like the Wii has locked down the Square Enix downloadable software support.
-
what's the difference between R1, R2, and just plain old crystal defenders?
-
what's the difference between R1, R2, and just plain old crystal defenders?
I'm guessing its more of Square Enix's DLC tomfoolery, like they did with My Life as a King and Space Invaders Get Even where you just couldn't buy the whole game at once.
-
How many FF4 fans would care about this tripe? ::)
More importantly, how many FF4 fans own a wii?
I do, to both points...
-
oh so the psn and xbla versions of defenders are going to be the whole game. cool
-
I love IV.
But I'm not playing this. I'm not playing any FF sequel, unless it's FFVIII or something. FFVII's sequels and shit have ruined the game for me. I won't let them ruin FFIV for me too.
-
IV blows.
Wow, you should just log off right about now

Wait, which one is IV? Is it the magic Crystals one or the Cecil/Kane one?
-
Cecil Kain
And magic crystals
-
Buy it and do a softmod.
-
DO IT
-
and i'm selling mine tomorrow, good riddance.
-
Cecil Kain
And magic crystals
Okay I lied, I love IV.

I thought it's coming to XBLA also like Crystal Defenders.
My doubts about that have been increasing since that rumor first popped up. The original rumor was extremely flimsy (http://blog.wired.com/games/2009/01/rumor-final-fan.html) and if it was going to happen you'd think it would have popped up with the Wii version just now. And at least with the Wii there is a somewhat likelyhood that its userbase had played FFIV at some point between the SNES, GBA and DS versions.
-
Wasn't this a cell phone game originally?
So this is what the Wii has been reduced to.
-
Jesus Christ. My list of wanted Wii games this year is closing in on thirty. This isn't supposed to happen to Nintendo consoles.
To be realistic about 5 of them are just likely localizations that haven't been confirmed, 4 are gamecube ports, 1 ps2 port, 1 ps1 remake, a ninja turtle game by ubisoft, and questionable weaksauce shit like Drum King and MySims Racing to satiate some manchild yearnings I have. But goddam, if they ever fix the storage issue its going to hurt to restrain myself doubly so. I'm kind of hoping most of these games are terrible so I can ignore them.
edit: shit, I just realised I want to rebuy WiiFit and pick up Shaun White. Luckily alot of Wii games have a nice trend of price collapsing after about two months. That could help.
-
At least for the next the end of June (based on what is listed) I'm only getting two Wii games; MadWorld and Kororinpa 2 are sure buys with The Conduit bumped down to rental. I was thinking about getting Pikmin on the Wii, but I already own it on the gamecube, the controls are great in that version, and I have no problem playing a game in 4:3. I can't imagine picking out 30 games.

Tiger Woods (ditto)
Anno Wii
NPC Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
Likely localisations:
Monster Hunter 3
Endless Ocean 2
NPC Metroid Prime
NPC Pikmin 2
NPC Chibi Robo
Probably shit, but I would like a kart racer without mascots so I'm keeping an eye on the mysims racing thing. Drum King... I dunno, its a dual wiimote drum game and thats been a nerdy fantasy of mine since the system was announced.
-
hey, Wii owners, don't forget about Broken Sword: The Directors Cut, or I will sodomize your loved ones with a toilet plunger.
or be snarky about the game's financial failure. Either of those.
-
Isn't that a graphic adventure game like those lucasarts relics? Not interested, sorry I'm part of the problem.
-
what the fuck have you done to my thread?
-
The thread where you want to buy a $250 waggle box for a square enix cell phone rpg? I guess someone mentioning they wants game made me think of how hopelessly careless I can be in my purchasing decisions too.
-
I'm glad it is coming to wiiware. :arr

I forgot about Sin and Punishment 2, Boom Blox 2 and Klonoa. I'll probably be forced to get Wii Sports Resort too. Need to see more on Punch Out and Little King Story before I decide to get those.
-
Has there been any word on if Punchout Wii will have classic controls or just motion controls?
That's a major deal-breaker for me.

Wii fanboy AND you have a Korn avatar. I can't imagine a worse human being.
-
Judgemental people who use personal preferences as criteria are pretty shitty Bob. Do you hate gays by any chance?
-
Korn lol
-
Korn : ]
-
Should be ashamed of yourself.
-
I'm looking forward to this, FFIV is one of the few FF games I love.
This and probably Madworld (I'd be more sold on it if RE5 didn't come out three days later) will keep my Wii sort of busy for a little while.
-

No, I shouldn't. I should feel about myself how I do feel. What you're actually saying is "you need to think like me".

It's worth getting a wii but not for FF4.

aside from the after and madworld there isn't anything else on the wii that i really want to play
anyways the urge has passed. maybe next year nintendo!
-
There is no good reason to own a Wii unless you want to distract your grandmother when she comes over to visit.

Not even ARC RISE FANTASIA!?

Or if you genuinely like Nintendo games. Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess, MP3 were all great.
The system looks very nice next to my 360. I'm getting the most out of my next gen experience that way.
-
i bought a wii component cable off of monoprice
help me :(
-
leper jansen
-
Buy it and hack your wii with USB Loader. Wiis are ok to buy now since you get teh free gaems
Unless it's a 4.0 virgin wii then you're fucked and you should kill yourself
-
Klonoa, punch-out, and boom blox 2 next month.
Klonoa is $30. Excitebots for $40 next week.
Motionplus in june.
:hyper
-
Klonoa might not be any good. I bought the import and only played a little but it honestly didn't seem much better than playing it on PS1. Then again I only played the first level.
-

Hey, wait. Can you hack a 3.4 wii without Twilight Princess? I was planning on hacking my JPN Wii that's 3.4 so I don't have to keep plugging in my US Wii everytime I want to play a US game, but I thought you needed to buy TP to hack it.
If you can do it without TP that would save me $40-50 of importing a used copy of Zelda that I don't need (already own the US version). So yeah, tell me about this USB Loader thing.
-
You cant hack anything without TP right now, but theres supposed to be a new little exploit happening coming up
USB Loader is the program that lets you play the free games
-
I understand the American release of Klonoa got some fine tuning(mo difficulty please?). In any event I'm buying the shit outta that even if it is easier then Paris Hilton.
-

Oh, ok. Well I guess I will import a used TP copy. It's still worth it if I can have a region free wii.
I would have modded my US Wii and used that since I have TP US but Madworld made it 4.0 ;_;
-
MadWorld doesnt make Wiis 4.0
You updated via other means - either shop channel or internet test connection
-

Hmmmmm...maybe mine is not 4.0? Lemme check. But yeah I might've updated it for something stupid.
-
oh, hey. It's 3.4U.
Well I know what I'm hacking tomorrow!
Is there any danger of things once a Wii is hacked? Like imagine if you give the hacked Wii to a non-gamer and they keep it and buy and play games and do official updates whenever the system asks them to. Could Nintendo make an update that will basically kill a hacked system?
I kinda told my brother I was giving him my US Wii to keep permanently at some point. Right now he just keeps it most of the time and I steal it when there are US games I want to play. But at some point I'll give it to him. But I don't want to give him a system that is going to brick on him down the line when he buys Mario Kart 22 or whatever.
-
If you just install Homebrew Channel, nothing will go wrong. Danger comes into play when you start dabbling with IOS files, and making custom channels, etc.
But I dont touch any of that gay stuff.

Do I need to mess with that stuff to make the system region free? I looked around and saw it was called Gecko something.
-
Yeah you need GeckoOS but that is run from HBC, doesnt require any fancy stuff

-
Cool. Thanks.
Will be hacking tomorrow!
-
I'm picking up Klonoa, but I'm thinking about passing on Excitebots, at least not getting it right away. The more videos I see of it the worse it looks, and I still haven't finished ExciteTrucks yet, so no need to move on.
-
Straight up, if I were to go out and buy a new Wii today, what would the odds of me getting an unhackable one be?
-
Slim, but possible

Super Sandwich! Great Fish!

Yeah, I also noticed that my Wii is only 3.4U. I thought it was 4.0! Finally, something I can do with the Wii!
-
4.0 is when the SD card icon is in the corner
-
Hey demi, where can I buy a "non-secure SD card" to hack my wii?
I have some SDHC cards for my camera but I read Wii doesn't work with those until 4.0. So I need to buy a cheap SD card. How do I tell if it's "non-secure" when I go to buy one?
-
Buy one that clearly doesnt state its SDHC
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Memory-SDSDB-2048-A11-Retail-Package/dp/B0009RGLSE
-

Well, I mean with the normal SD cards it seems there are "secure" and "non-secure" ones and the secure ones won't work for hacking? Will the Sandisk SD cards work? If so I'll just grab one at Best Buy today so I can hack it.
-
I use that same exact SD card - except mine is 128MB
-
Awesome. Best Buy here I come!
-
aside from muramasa and the after what other wii games are worth playing/coming out?
also what VC and wiiware games are worth a shit
anything emcee suggests is automatically discounted
oh and if i can't install homebrew is there another way to play imports?
-
No
-
i thought there was a freeloader or some shit
http://www.renchi.com/renchi/Wii_Accessories_Freeloader_US_Version.htm
there is!
ahh shit
You can continue to use Wii Freeloader perfectly with any Wii console running firmware 3.2 and below
:(
-
Patched, Freeloader doesnt work anymore cause Datel is a bunch of code stealing shitheels
-

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond Datel's control Wii Freeloader is not compatible with Wii firmware 3.3 and higher (released as an online update 17/06/2008).
You can continue to use Wii Freeloader perfectly with any Wii console running firmware 3.2 and below.

hmm i get one for 206$ through amazon warehouse deals
really tempting!

Yeah that's what I did last month. Everything inside was new, only issue was the box had a couple of dents on it.
It had FW 3.3 on it but I rented TP through Gamefly and downgraded to 3.2

I recommend muramusa already. Same company is releasing Little King's Story.
Sorry I have better sense than to buy a shitty cellphone rpg.

sweet. i think that's what i'll do
where's a cheap place to get an sd + reader for the TP hack?
-
Alright you know what I'm not going to answer any more hack questions
Theres plenty of sites out there
-
ur a meanie :P
i already found a site that explains everything and has links to all the shit you need to download
now i just need to pull the trigger. what a sad day this is
the deed is done :(
-
I gotta hold off hacking my Wii until that SD card arrives from mail order. My nurse says I'm not supposed to go out yet in the real world and my brother wouldn't go to best buy and buy the card for me >_< So probably no hacking until tuesday/wed. Can't believe I was foiled by an SD card. I had just assumed my SDHC cards I use for my camera were going to work. Should've known Nintendo's SD card support would be 10 years out of date just like everything else in the hardware.
the deed is done :(
It's not so bad. Madworld is fun for 4 hours and No More Heroes is great. Mario Galaxy is REALLY GOOD, Brawl is fun if you have offline friends. DQ Swords is a cool arcade DQ experience and Fire Emblem is Fire Emblem. Symphonia 2 sucks ass though so I'd avoid.
Definitely enough games to make it worth owning even if it's not enough games to make the system particularly good.
-
I ended up borrowing an SD card from a friend last night and doing the hacking dance and I was surprised how quick and easy it was! The twilight hack takes like 3 mins total. Easier than hacking a psp! A modded Wii is kinda cool. The region free thing is nice and has some decent options. The Wii goes from being absolutely useless to maybe semi-useful when hacked. :)

Wii: It's worth playing the first Kororinpa, the second one doesn't control as well. But the first one is addicting as all hell. Other than that, umm... Well the trio of Mario, Zelda and Smash. Zack and Wiki seemed cool from what little I've played. I've always been curious about Opoona myself. Upcoming, there's Sin and Punishment 2 and Punch Out. Arc Rise Fantasia looks pretty cool, as does Muramasa and Little King's Story. And of course waaaay further in the pipeline, DQX.
VC: Phantasy Star 2 and 4, Ys Book 1 and 2, Sin and Punishment, Wonder Boy III: Dragon's Curse, SOM, Shining Force 1 and 2, DoReMi Fantasy, Soldier Blade, Lords of Thunder, MUSHA, Shinobi 3, the obvious big name Nintendo and Sega games... even though the VC's release schedule sucks nowadays, there are a lot of great games already on the platform.
WiiWare: Cubello is pretty fun, that's about it so far. World of Goo was overrated as fuck.
-
Arc Rise Fantasia looks awful imo. duckroll read an interview with the developers and they said they made the graphics and image quality terrible on purpose to keep the load times down....wtf. It looks worse than almost any jrpg on GC, which is sad.
-
isn't arc rise 480i?
the videos at gametrailers look awful. no way does the game look that bad
ohhh fragile looks pretty sweet
-

I've never understood people who praise the game's graphics in every thread. Everything looks horrid from the environments to the character models. Oh well, at least the load times might be kept down in the developers are true to their word (could you imagine those shitty graphics + Tales-of-the-abyss like loading times? UGHHH).
-
wtf fragile hasn't been announced for localization?!
screw you namco
-
I'm right there with you, Jansen. Fragile looks great, but the bastards aren't planning to bring it to America or Europe. At least if it was a Euro cheaper release I can import and play in English.
-
oh my i dont remember the gamecube ver of TP looking this bad.
at least i can install the homebrew channel on this wii
-
are there any worthwhile wiiware games for this thing?
help me out here :)
-
Bit.trip Beat - okay game, just gets a but full of itself
Tetris Party - pretty fun if you aren't burnt out on Tetris already
Dr. Mario - great if you happen to have friends that are into it (online)
Bomberman Blast - another really fun online game, unfortunately the general distinguished mentally-challenged-ness of Friend Codes kinda ruins it
Toki Tori - awesome if you like quazi-Lemmings puzzle games
Bubble Bobble Plus! - Not yet out in the US because NoA is stupid
Star Soldier R - decent shooter, one of the only games where I actually cared about leaderboards and stuff
Gradius ReBirth - kinda crappy for a Gradius game but whatever, it's worth pirating at least
Gyrostarr - Tube shooter, kinda gets old quickly
LostWinds - ok platformer
Space Invaders Get Even - really fun RTS hybrid, the forced DLC kinda sucks though
TV Show King - actually decent if you have friends over
Alien Crush Returns
Art Style: Rotohex and Orbient I thought were a lot of fun, too.
-

I played the Japanese version. It has a lot of good ideas, but the game itself really isn't all that good. It also demands that your Wii-mote is functioning at 100%.

What does that mean? I was planning on playing Fragile some day.
-
XSEED will release the North American version of Fragile this winter.
-
I'm interested in Fragile, Arc Rise, Ju-On. XSEED is getting my GameFly a good workout.

A Ju-On game? Is it related to the movies?
