Title: Wii/ds owners and entitlement issues
Post by: EmCeeGrammar on March 02, 2009, 02:54:10 AM: Why do people let themselves get upset over mediocre shit like Disaster not jumping the pond? It had two chances to prove itself in both the eastern and western markets. Failed spectacularly and garnered 'meh' reviews everywhere. Why does NoA have any obligation to take a stupidly huge risk?

You could insert layton, captain rainbow, fatal frame, third party support etc and the scenario repeats itself. I'll be bummed if Endless Ocean 2 doesn't come stateside but my happiness isn't going to hinge on someone else making games I want. For fucks sake go make your own fun like a sane adult or buy a system with similar types of games.

Consider that for every game that Nintendo or it's second parties develop, Shiggy will sit in a room for a couple of days with the design documents and a controller and "play" the game.

Now think about Retro Studios, which made my favorite game ever and so I think is very talented, and look at how slow they develop. I think it's definitely possible that Nintendo management is micro-managing everything too much.

Most studios make a game every year or two it seems but when it comes to Nintendo's AAA games, they seem to take about 3-4 years. And there's also the issue with Nintendo being too attached to its old franchises. They definitely have some talent but I think they need to let their developers be more independent.

It was probably more annoying last gen when 3rd parties were somehow being blamed for Nintendo's failure. At least a reasonable case can be made that there's money being left on the table with the Wii perhaps becoming the most successful console ever and companies are almost set up to fail on the other two systems unless they have a breakout hit.

I might care more if motionplus actually is good though, because unfortunately I don't think waggle has delivered on it's promise.

I can't imagine people complaining about DS's support though.

Third parties either have to pander along and provide party game shit or they have to take a risk and make a new IP that probably won't port very well to other consoles wrt visuals and controls. I'd eat an ass hair if I got a decent third-party game for the Wii every month for a year.

Motion plus is a novel idea but I don't think it's going to make a difference. A 1:1 translation of your movements is not good for a sports game. It's good if it can do a 1:1 interpretation of how you want to move but I think that most major sports games (waggle and otherwise) are already decent at doing that.

What was Nintendo's big holiday release? Wii Music. Would people have gotten as angry about that if they had brought out anything else along side that, anything else so at least the only option from the 1st party publisher wasn't a miserably done music game? Probably not. Not bringing out the so very many DS and Wii games to America that they very easily could is infuriating, especially in the absence of anything else to replace it.

NOA only seems to be too happy to kick back their feet and reap humongous profits off of software that can barely be called games. Meanwhile, their longtime customers, people like me who actually bought a Gamecube and such are being shut out in favor of the new demographic, the one that doesn't give a crap about anything that isn't Mario or some other cutesy/pseudo practical shit. Considering the massive piles of money that Nintendo is making on the Wii, it just seems kinda mean not to better cater to the long suffering audience that kept them afloat during the last decade previous to their current success.

The Wii is the first Nintendo console I've owned since the Super NES where my 1st party games are dwarfed by the 3rd party stuff. And the Wii's 3rd party support isn't even that good. Nintendo fans are mad because they could always rely on Nintendo to provide a constant stream of highly polished and worthwhile games, no matter what other deficiencies the system they live on might hold. Now they can't even do that.

Nintendo fans are mad because even though the Wii is massively successful, its failing to meet its potential, and everyone with half a brain knows that.

Well if I spend $250 on a thing that is useless without having other things to put into it, but then the company doesn't give me stuff to put into it, then that sucks. Though I stopped expecting things to put into it like 6 months ago so

Disaster isbetter than a lot of Wii games that do come out and people fool themselves into liking. As for other games, I wouldn't limit my want to just the Wii or DS platforms; I want games like Ryu Ga Gotoku Kenzan for PS3, Way of the Samurai 3 for PS3 / 360, Fragile for the Wii, etc. I don't feel like I'm entitled to these games or anything, but I would just like to play them without learning Japanese is all because they interest me.

Nintendo's DS support has been atrocious in the last year, which is why 3-year-old games like Mario Kart DS are the best-selling DS games. It's been a long, long time since I've bought a Nintendo-published DS game. I think Picross was the last one.

I've played it more than any other DS game. I can't wait for the upcoming 3D version, which I'm sure Nintendo won't bring out in the US.
