thread
I'm gonna pick it up later tonight, LE.
-
Just want the map pack, so I'm gonna wait.
-
Bought it earlier today but haven't been bothered to unwrap the game yet.
-
I'll probably get Halo Wars down the road, maybe over the summer. Also, the new maps don't look all that appealing to me, so I'll pass.
-
I have them
-
i got the LE. gave the map pack away to a halo fanboy i know
-
I really prefer my official threads to be 40 posts long and loaded with information like how Private Anderson doesn't eat sausage and egg sandwiches ever since his fiance left him after the battle of hickadoo on the moon in the year 2350. I can't relate to blowing the fuck out of some purple dude with a space shotgun without that info.
-
that information must be in an image too
-
I got home with it, spammed the easiest Mythic achievements in Halo 3, and now I'm stuck playing the old maps since the only friends I have who got HW are not home :lol
I doubt I'll even play Wars till tomorrow
-
I'm really enjoying Halo Wars. I sat down after I got home from work yesterday and played until well after I should have been in bed. I think I'm on level 12 or so, and I'm just playing through on normal. Level 7 on legendary looks like it'll be damn near impossible. And the multiplayer is really good too. I was on last night with my friend playing 2v2 ranked, and the game was a good hour or so, with all of us constantly trading off the middle base.
I usually use Forge for multiplayer, but I'm thinking about switching to Cutter. It seems like everyone uses him, but he IS good. The ODST troops are amazing, and the MAC is damn powerful, moreso than the Carpet Bomb, as far as I know. The only real reason I use Forge is because of the automatically upgraded supply pads. My usual strat is to build a barracks, train three soldiers, build a resource pad, and use those three guys to grab another base and make it all resource pads. The insta-Heavy resource pads are a godsend. But I might end up just going with Cutter like everyone else.
-
Game is incredibly short. Sixty dollars well wasted.
-
I don't really care how long it is, the achievements look really fun to get and will require multiple playthroughs, plus multiplayer.
I just finished the first act and I'm enjoying it. Nabbing the skull was a nice challenge as they spawn a bunch of new enemies when you try to go back for it.
-
It's a strategy game selling for $60 - how could you not care about the length? I'm not going to even debate the merits of the PC platform when it comes to the genre and how the game already feels stripped down, but only one campaign that can be beaten within a day? That's ridiculous.
Who really wants to play through the same campaign over and over again for achievements? And I'd never want to play a RTS multiplayer on a console - and I gather that will be the case in a week or two when you can't find a game.
-
I HATE replaying campaigns for achievements. Make your shit stackable or fuck OFF
What logic would it be for me to beat it on hard, only to have to replay on Normal and Easy
-
I seriously think this should've been a XBLA title.
-
Uh I play strategy games for the multiplayer dude ???. Also, I have friends and judging by preorders this game is going to be selling gangbusters
And the difficulty-based achievements do stack demi. You only have to replay if you don't think you can beat a mission on legendary, in co op, with secret skulls, secret black boxes, and a gold medal all on your first try.
I'm gonna play through on normal and just enjoy the game then do co op on legendary with my IRL friend (that'll land Legendary, Heroic, and Co Op Complete achievements). Then I'll pick through easy in bits and pieces to get the skulls and black boxes I couldn't find on my own. You don't need to finish the mission once you find a skull/box, you can quit out from there. At least in mission 3, getting the skull changed the course of the mission and was fun for me.

I played quite a bit of BFME II on 360, and Halo Wars feels very stripped down even compared to that, which is not an overly complex game in its own right. The controls were ok, but there weren't alot of units or upgrade paths. I wouldn't mind picking this game up down the road at a cheaper price, but I wouldn't pay full msrp.

This sounds appealing but RTS games are shit by default

I repeat: "... on a console?" Nobody wants to play multiplayer strategy games on a console, dude. No matter how much anecdotal evidence you have to support that theory. I bet not only does it sell less than Tiberium Wars, but that we all quickly forget about it when Resident Evil 5 hits shelves.
Game is ridiculously short and like Kestastrophe even noted, is stripped down from even previous console strategy efforts. At least EA gave us multiple campaigns with the C&C ports.
-
ok dude
How much did Tiberium Wars sell on 360? Did it even chart? I just wanna take note of how owned you'll be
edit: 138,000 units :lol
-
Even though I think its oversimplified, I still think that there is some fun to be had in multiplayer console RTS. BFME II was quite fun over Live. If you really want to fun, quick, and streamlined multiplayer RTS experience, then DoWII is right up your alley.

For reference, I own C&C3 and Kane's Wrath on both PC and 360, and RA3 on 360. I don't play them. I don't think I got past the first couple of levels on the 360 versions, but I beat them both on PC. Halo Wars has controls that aren't shit, and are a lot more user friendly. Yeah, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a PC, but then again it also doesn't use a keyboard with near limitless binding ability. And maybe the graphics aren't what they could be on a PC, but I don't have anything against them.
Overall, I'm enjoying the single player. I'm enjoying the multiplayer. And I'm sure that, when I play it, I'll enjoy the co-op. If that doesn't constitute me calling the game good, what could? I mean, I realize that everyone has their own opinion, but I don't think it's deserving of all the hate, even if it's short. Story of CoD4 was pretty short too, imo, but people played the shit out of multiplayer. And I see that happening here, too. Not to mention the storyline in HW is really interesting so far.
-
i couldnt bear to play this single player but co-op is fun

Yup. I was a Starcraft madman back in high school but this game is still fun.

Co op rocks
I didn't even realize just how big mission 2 was. I thought it was a straight shot to the objective, but it turns out there are a lot of separate paths that lead to bonus objectives that give you extra units, plus the black box.
-
God I want this game so bad. But, its either this or RE5 this month. I did pick up a Halo Wars t-shirt at Walmart today for $7 though.
-
Get RE5 at TRU, use $20 card towards Gaylo Wars

What's the deal now?
-
I'm really iterestend in getting Halo Wars but how much is the map pack going to be by itself? 800 points?
Probably.
-
Beat it on Normal. I'm a few missions in on Heroic. Got all the black boxes.
I had a great time. I'm gonna start hopping online soon and then probably go for the Golds and Skulls achievements.
-
I'm so tempted; a friend who is into RTS said it was shallow -- then came in today after spending the weekend playing online, and recanted. Apparently there's a lot of depth, though they kept it accessible to the mainstream.
-
The depth comes from picking your unit assortment. The low unit cap and the limited resources mean that you really have to pick your upgrade path carefully.
I still need to get on some online
-
http://www.halowars.com/stats/globalstats.aspx
180,000 people played this online in the last 24 hours, 524,296 people on the campaign leaderboards.
Willco annihilated
-
I need a co-op partner for Legendary / skulls. Add me on xbl and message me if you want to do it. gt is the same as my forum name.
-
Yup, and it doesn't look like they're getting a reprint.
-
So, can I only get the map code if i buy the LE?
it'll be on the marketplace in a month or so
btw halo wars campaign is way too short. i beat it in about 8 hours on normal
-
April 10th is the earliest possible release on the maps, but it's not that far off.
I thought the campaign was fine. I beat it on Normal, got some of the skulls and all the black boxes and beat another 3 or 4 levels on Heroic, plus did some online and I'm over 14 hours.

how was the story? i'm a big fan of the halo universe and story
also, were all the cutscenes like the cg trailer? dark and more gritty etc
-
I'm probably the wrong guy to ask, I barely pay attention to Halo stories. This one seemed good, but it was completely isolated to the one ship you operate out of. They have a pretty cool timeline in the game though, you unlock entries by finding secrets or by winning on different maps or using different leaders.
The CG is at a really high standard. The script is even cheezier than Halo 3's though I think.
-
I'll admit that I didn't want to like this, what with it being "the swansong of Ensemble," but the demo was actually fun, and the visual style of Halo translates really well to this format. I might have to rent this, hopefully it will still feel relevant after playing DoW II.
