Meh.  Jon lost me last night.  When he does his whole liberal grand standing bit, it comes off as obnoxious.  I can understand why some people like it, though.

I don't know how pointing out that CNBC are a bunch of fucking idiots is in any way "liberal".  You're just pissed because he's attacking the moneyed elites, Hebrew.

Not really.  It's not like he ONLY attacked CNBC, he also attacked MSNBC.  Then he did the dumb liberal soap box bit to verbally attack NBC for putting the DOW box on the screen when Obama speaks - whining that they were equating his Presidential performance to that of the stock market.

Which was dumb, Triumph.

If you watch any cable news, the Dow box is on all the time, including Presidential press conferences, not to gauge Obama's performance, but because people are absolutely worried 24/7 that the market will completely fall apart.  The Dow is a compelling news story and something people that watch cable news during the day look at, not a bash on Obama.

Jon overreaches in his arguments against media, using images without context, to voice his own, personal opinion.  And while that might jive with his liberal demographic ("lol you tell 'em jon!"), it comes off as obnoxious to everyone else, dude.

Yeah, that attack was kind of dumb. They have been showing off the Dow ticker ever since the crash in September, no matter what is on the screen.

Too bad MAF still isn't around, he could single-handedly boost the DOW with his "WDYB?" threads...

Even better, install it as a Post captcha, make everyone type in the current Dow if they want to post  :lol

Stock news is never shown in the bottom of the screen or anywhere else on normal news shows in europe.

Do you guys have riot tickers instead?
In Greece, a Neogaf poster named fortified_concept stayed indoors typing on his computer, from where he safely cheered on his fellow countrymen as they rioted and destroyed countless businesses in downtown Athens!  In other news, a Polish national, living in the Netherlands or in England, has been accused of infecting women with the HIV virus.

Uh, maybe you need to watch it again, douchenugget.  He's attacking people for trying to equate a successful presidency with a robust dow, you fucking drooling idiot.  I swear, the residue from your years of Republicanism is making you freak out whenever you watch the Daily Show.

I do hate the obsession over the Dow though. Obama was right, people are wrongly treating it like a daily tracking poll of the economy.

I don't think you need to be an authority on the subject of people tracking the Dow whether or not the President is speaking to realize that people track the Dow whether or not the President is speaking.

Triumph, no need to take the objective criticism of a persona that runs a fake news show so personally. I did watch the whole show - I usually watch the Daily Show. Its funny. But not when Jon overreaches in his arguments to make a mountain out of a mole hill and pander to his liberal demo.

That's all.

I saw some new economic data today at work and it all looks horrible. I fear if the credit market gets flowing again you are going to see a massive amount of mergers (which means more job losses) just for survival.

I gotta go with Stewart on this.

The first segment was right:  CNBC sees itself as an authority on finance when it's actually a farce.

The second segment was also right:  cable news puts a huge emphasis on the Dow and encourages inane, uninformed speculation about what's moving the markets.

It's not a particularly left-right issue.  It's about how the format tilts towards instant gratification and fills time with analysis by people who are never held accountable.  Think ESPN, only dealing with important issues and everyone is as smart as Skip Bayless.

The Dow gets so much play because it constantly updates and is easily visualized, like those godforsaken Gallup daily tracking polls during the campaign, but unlike monthly or quarterly economic reports.

edit:  I will say those two segments weren't as funny as they should have been.  The first one had some shockingly bad editing by TDS' usual standards.

I think that they scrambled at the last minute because they were pissed off at Santelli for canceling, thus explaining the craptacular quality of the video segments.  It's pretty rare for a show to JUST be Jon on the show and no correspondents, but that's what Wednesday's show was.

Can't stand Stewart/Daily Show in general but god damn, that video=

As a fellow Daily Show detractor I get your point Willco, I just disagree. Stewart was mainly mocking the ridiculous nature of CNBC's coverage of...everything. Not just CNBC really, the media in general is having a hard time transitioning from reporting campaign politics/rumors/over blown grandstanding/etc to reporting on policy shit. There is no actual analysis, instead it's just politics ("how do YOU feel about YOUR money being used to bail out THEM? with me now is radio talk show host ______").

I agree about the DOW tracker tho

-didn't like Unforgiven
-finds Forrest Gump to be the pinnacle of cinematic achievement
-likes O'reilly but doesn't like Stewart/Colbert

I went to Jesus/church camp almost every summer as a kid, and we had regional activities too. We'd go to these camps sometimes on spring break. It sucked. I never liked the shit even as a kid.

So PD, what about O'Reilly do you prefer over Colbert/Stewart? Do you like Larry King as well?
