playing the ps3 definitive loli edition, and it's definitely better than killzone 2.
what the fuck is up with the hate on gaf for this game? the story and dialogue are obviously rancid, and then there's the whole precious moments character design shit, but has any recent JRPG had a decent plot and characters?
the battle sytem is awesome, the music is great, the sound production and visual design is ace, and i'm having a great ol' time as long as i whack start whenever a cutscene begins. i look forward to tri-crescendo -- if they're still around -- doing another rpg, albeit one less saccharine. i hope chopin and jazz london bridge polka and/or beat sometime soon, too. (is that sentence parseable? thanks, jrpgs!)

it's better than infinite undiscovery
-
Well at least you are playing it for fun!
-
Mediocre at best.
All next-gen jrpg's have been mediocre so far.
*still have to play Star Ocean IV.
-
how far into it are you? this may answer why you still think its good
-
just had the fat dude shatter the bridge and then got out of the swamp. supposedly, the ps3 version fixes up and beefs up the latter half of the game, which is why i waited to play it.
-
did you get to the part where they say dying is cool and heaven is awesome
-
i skip cutscenes, so i dunno
the exposition is intolerable
-
I have notified the proper authorities; please remain where you are and do not offer resistance when they come to take you away.
-
if you like mashing buttons i know this pretty sweet game called kingdom hearts
-
also
does this top magna carta?
-
oh yes, it tops magna carta like zed topped ving rhames

well, that is wretched and now i want to die
-
watch it fucker, that is your punishment
-
I haven't played the PS3 version, but I found the 360 version fun at first. Then as I progressed further, I started to see how shallow and simple the game was. Character leveling, item equiping, and customization is kept at a bare minimum, and they barely ever do anything with the light and dark battle system. The game is also one of the most linear JRPG's I've played, and I think I died only once in the entire thing. It's sometimes gorgeous to look at, but in the end that's all you'll get out of it.
-
AND GOD IS AWESOME AND DEATH IS OK
-
Yeah the ending totally made me want to slice my wrists open.
-
but has any recent JRPG had a decent plot and characters?
bondage lesbians in Tales of Vesperia
and I only played the Eternal Sonata demo and was liked the battle system; it was like a poor mans Grandia.
-
watch it fucker, that is your punishment
i really can't. ten seconds in and i was already considering my last will and testament
still, the game lets people skip all this shit! WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO YOURSELVES

the sakuraba soundtrack is aces. it's one of his best so far, which is probably keeping me playing more than i ought
-
are you bored of the 5 enemies and palette swaps yet?
or the fact the battle system is just mash X until the last second them spam Y?
-
there's usually about 3-4 unique enemies per area
i like setting up big damage combos with viola and salsa, hawk eye + salsa's first shadow attack lets allegretto pump out 40-70K damage attacks
also viola's bow shots require aiming at range (which is where she puts out the pain), and i like taking pictures in battle
ALSO i can play it with the kid in the room, although i DID get sucker punched while BONE CRUMBLE! BULLSEYE was yelled in my ear
-
You are at the beginning, they havent started the swaps yet
-
Actually I do remember kinda liking the soundtrack too. The game really does try its best to put you at awe with its next gen, colorful world. It's unfortunate that beneath all those colors is a really dull game. Have you gotten to the graveyard yet where you have to light the flames? That's what put me over the tipping edge into sheer disliking it.
-
do the swaps have diferent skills?

:lol :lol :lol

It's pretty good fun - I'm in the middle of chapter 5 (of 8 I think) and need to get back to finish it some time. The music score mechanic is my biggest disappointment - if I remember correctly it's total trial and error.
I even sat through all the cutscenes, including the verbose ones about Chopin. :-\

boring battle system. you can damn near ignore the light/dark aspects of it entirely
shitty dungeons

horrific characters and cutscenes
i made it to chapter 3 and fucking bailed out
-
Man, I'll never have to worry about prostate cancer after all the action I got from this game.
-
cant believe demi hasnt said my name yet lol
game was good 1st time through, awful going for the 1000/1000, still did it though
-
It's bad. Real bad.
But you don't really notice it until you get further in like that cutscene above. Then you get to the end of the game and you realize they ran out of time so there is no end of the game and it just ENDS and you realize there was no actual plot to the entire game and you just sat through all those cutscenes for nothing and it was a waste of time.
Also the bonus dungeon is horrible. 1 room copy/paste for hours.
And you run out of new enemies pretty early in the game and it's just palette swaps like pilonv1 said.
And you realize the camera/money system is broken and you can sell like a few photos and buy every item in the game.
And you realize the battle system is insanely easy and there is no skill or depth.
It's the worst rpg on X360/PS3 outside of those Idea Factory games I don't actually play and just assume they are the worst products available on their respective systems.

I think there's 5. The game just ENDS. It's like half a game. Get ready to see the credits.
I was curious if the PS3 one would be a huge revamp with the rest of the story added back in, but from what I read there really aren't major changes. Just a few cutscenes and costumes and useless stuff.
-
There is 8

I think they'd be better. They can't be worse.
-
First two hours are good, then your playing those same two hours again for the rest of the game + the storyline & characters are awful.
-
It's a good thing you never played it, jinfash. Playing that sort of game can get you beheaded over there.
-
man, y'all niccas are bummin' me. well, i will recant if these issues arise!
-
I started playing it (thanks, Cohen!) and had fun with it, but it got pretty ridiculous. I'll probably get back to it at some point.
-
Haha, those ending credits are awesome. I remember the first time I played through the game I kept the voices to Japanese and they didn't subtitle a bunch of the ending so I couldn't really understand what they were saying. Ended up watching the English dubs on youtube and promptly sent them to all my friends, we all got a good laugh out of them.
The game gets so tedious at the end, which is a shame since there was definitely plenty of potential at work. The bonus dungeon also sucked ass and requires you to look at walkthrough and map unless you want to go crazy. I remember that for one part you need to get maximum money to buy one of the shards, and one of the floors has enemies that give you a lot of money so I just farmed there for several hours and got the maximum amount. I was near the boss anyway so I didn't bother going back to the beginning to save, and I was at such a high level that I figured I could beat the boss no problem. She proceeds to kick my ass something fierce and I lose all of that work. I almost felt like shelving the game for good after that, but forced myself to do all that damn grinding again and progress.

This is probably my least favorite RPG I've played since Xenosaga... repetitive combat against the same 5 palette swaps, really overdone, long and boring cinemas, nonsensical story, too many useless characters clogging up your party, extremely linear dungeons, just terrible all around.
