I've been watching The Simpsons with a few buddies lately. You know, the OLD Simpsons.
This morning we watched all of season 4.
And I mean, does tv ever get better than this? I don't think so.
-
No.
-
::)
-
never got into the simpsons.
i've tried watching a couple of eps, but i didn't find it really funny.
-
::)
What kind of childhood did you have?

Were the episodes produced during the last ten years? If they were, your reaction is perfectly understandable.

Where's Blackmage when you need him to threaten someone's life?

I find this post offensive.
-
The episode where Maude Flanders died was the episode where i realized something was wrong. :'(
what season is that from? i remember them HYPING it and making a huge deal out of it
-
what are some classic episodes?
-
Season ten or eleven. The show was already going downhill around season seven or eight.
-
Did you guys jerk each other off? It's the only thing I could think that is more gayer than watching Simpsons together.
-
One Fish Two Fish Blowfish Blue Fish and Bart the General are my favorites.
-
Bart Gets an F
Mr. Plow
Burns Verkaufen der Kraftwerk
Flaming Moe's
Radio Bart
Last Exit to Springfield
"Lisa Needs Braces!
"Dental Plan!"
"Lisa Needs Braces!
"Dental Plan!"
"Lisa Needs Braces!
"Dental Plan!"
Marge vs. the Monorail
The Last Temptation of Homer
-
When the show became Homer's Stupid Adventures, I stopped watching.
-
Probably season three.
-
::)
What kind of childhood did you have?
One that didn't involve the Simpsons. I've never seen a full episode, and honestly even the clips I watch today aren't funny at all. Probably a nostalgia thing for people
-
It's hard for someone who's never watched an entire episode to make that kind of judgment.
-
Not really
-
Futurama is better
-
Futurama is better
By the time you were old enough to watch The Simpsons, it was already on the decline. While Futurama was great, it can't touch classic Simpsons.
-
Futurama is nowhere near Simpsons at its peak. Family Guy? GTFO
Futurama is better
Last season or two were terrible. First couple of seasons were good.
Agreed. The first two seasons were great; the other two seasons are total shit. I still own them though...

Nah. The writing is pretty much comedic perfection. You missed out.
-
Not really
The Simpsons--unlike, for example, Family Guy--had actual plots. And the jokes--again, unlike the jokes in Family Guy--were often integral to those plots. As such, you can't fully appreciate the show from watching random clips, as you have tried to do. It will give you a superficial, incomplete impression of the show.
-
So less Family Guy, more Arrested Development?
-
Am I the only person who loves season 1? I mean, it's not always laugh out loud funny and the animation is crude, but it shows a side of the Simpsons you rarely ever see. Homer is a dimwit, but he's a good-natured dimwit who'd do anything for his family. I mean, can you really imagine Homer selling the family tv to help the family in later seasons? Or Homer taking it upon himself to have a second job because he didn't get his Christmas bonus?
Homer's progression is an allegory to the series I think. Early Simpsons is heartfelt and very humane. Later Simpsons is extreme and just stupid.

Yes. Download season 1 from Thepiratebay.

So you were a Cosby guy?
-
Season 3-6 are the golden years. 2 and 7 have a mix of shit and good episodes.
I agree that Season 4 is probably the best. Season 6 is up there as well.

somewhere in between.
-
Season 4 might be the best season of any show ever.
-
My favorite episode of The Simpsons isn't even a full episode, just the Time and Punishment segment from Treehouse of Horror V.
The episode where Maude Flanders died was the episode where i realized something was wrong. :'(
Whenever people cite when Simpsons started to get poor, they always bring up that episode. It's actually kinda weird.
-
LOST. And if you say no i'll fucking kill you!

Lost? smh

Maude's voice was different (clearly didn't even try to replicate the original) and I suppose how she died was more of a sign of the spastic, shitty Simpsons that exists today.

Lost is nerd garbage.
so is your fat face! :maf

The Wire :bow

The Wire :bow
fuck the wire bitch! :gun

x-files and twilight zone would be my top two
but for comedy, classic Simpsons is king

The voice actor who did Maude Flanders didn't want to do the show anymore. They didn't kill her off for narrative reasons, they simply wrote her out of the series.
I'd say The Simpsons from seasons 3-8 is about as good as any TV show has ever been. Since then, The Simpsons got worse, then much worse, and then kinda better. Nowadays its not bad at all, but it pales in comparison to its glory years, although to be fair, not much else stacks up against Prime Simpsons.
-
Seinfeld was just as good as prime Simpsons for sure.
I would also say that Entourage seasons 1-3 rivaled both of those shows.
What the fuck. :lol :lol
-
I love Entourage but that comparison is...weird.
-
I enjoy Entourage, but comparing it to Simpsons and Seinfeld is borderline distinguished mentally-challenged.
-
You need to watch more television then.
-
Lost is better than Entourage, though.
-
Better acting, better technical merits (cinematography, sound, etc.) and better everything, really.

I can understand people not liking the show (especially what it has become more recently), but it's nigh impossible to deny the acting and technical merits are top notch.
-
I don't like Lost, I got bored after the second season but yeah, the show is really well acted and looks fantastic.

Cheebs watches chick flicks - denied

Yesssssssssss

I was never into the Simpsons anywhere near as much as I was Matt Groenig's Life In Hell comics.
-
curious timing on this. (http://www.avclub.com/articles/in-a-way-theyre-all-winners-10-simpsons-episodes-f,25487/) Who's the AV Club member here.

Those descriptions don't sound very appealing.
