Saw this on the news a few hours ago. Wind. :(
Even more fucked up was the planecrash in Montana. 14 dead, 7 of which were children. But the most fucked up thing was this:

The whole year has been jam packed with plane accidents. I'm sure this must be some sort of anomaly but it is fucking scary.
-
I'm flying to NC on March 31. I'm kinda scared. >:(

I've been playing too much Oblivion... this looked like an Oblivion gate at first. :'(

Fuck, I fly twice every week, this is not good for my nerves...
-
Saw the footage of this, another MD-11 flipping over, not good. Imagine standing in the Narita terminal looking out when that happened :(

This one shows the first touchdown as well, after the main gear touches down the nose goes down very fast, wonder what happened here. Looks very strange
-
Looks like a very big rudder input early after initial touchdown. The MD-11 was criticized after its inception for its relatively poor crosswind performance due to the lenghtening of the DC-10 fuselage and the rear engine taking up rudder real estate on the vertical stab. Pilot may have been on the edge of the crosswind cert performance here so it could have been an overcompensation to get the three gears down as fast as possible :/
-
Fuck and I'm flying tomorrow night. :-\
-
statistically, the chance of an accident should be very low!
-
This sucks :(
Also, MD planes are the devil, I always feel unsafe on them for some reason. AND I HATE flying... Not even kidding we almost hit another plane when I was landing the other day. Flying = :( :( :(

Looks like there was another crash in Montana

I am absolutely terrified of flying :(. As someone else mentioned though, it is the statistically safest way to travel.
-
Old news, but notice how it crashed into the fucking graveyard.
As for safety, the problem (or blessing?) is that it's pretty much a given that you're going to die real fast. Although, if the problem becomes apparent at high altitude, you'll have some time to ponder this concept.

omg, just search youtube for "almost plane crash"

I think the closest I ever came to crashing in a plane was the return flight from my first trip in a commercial jet. As far as I remember we just hit some particularly rough turbulence, which made the plane drop quite a bit on several occasions. I remember enjoying the ride, as if it were a roller coaster, but as I think back I remember people gasping and a generally fearful atmosphere amongst the passengers.
I got off that flight not having any fear of flying. Then, between that day and the next time I flew, some five years later, I developed a distaste for flying. Sure, I'm afraid of flying, but not in a crippling way. I'll fly, I'll even choose flying over driving if given the option. But that doesn't mean I don't understand that I'm putting my life into someone else's hands. I know, driving statistically is more dangerous, blah blah, at least I have the illusion of control when I'm driving.
The weird thing is that when I was young, like between 4-6, I went up in a Cessna on a fairly regular basis. I mean, those have got to be the real death traps, right? But, ignorance is bliss.
