I need to order some books off Amazon today or tomorrow so I get them by the end of the week for my stay in the hospital next week after my surgery (http://www.evilbore.com/forum/index.php?topic=28830.msg791872#msg791872). Since I'll be high on drugs and sort of out of it I don't want to bring any electronics or stuff worth money in case I drop/lose them, so I'll stick to reading for the 5 days I'm living in the hospital.
I bought that Horror anthology listed in the timecrimes thread, but then I realized that I probably shouldn't read horror while ALL ALONE IN A HOSPITAL ^^; So no horror please. Same with comedy because laughing would be painful/bad after surgery around the gut.
So can I get some recommendations of exciting great books (no slow boring stuff that would just make me sleep more plz), in any genre besides horror/comedy. Graphic novel recommendations are ok too.
Thanks,
-
Deb Olin Unferth- Vacation
Chris Adrian- The Children's Hospital, although it borders on horror. It's not scary. Just gloomy.
Yannick Murphy- Here They Come
Graphic novels, try Planetary. It fucking rules.
That's what's on MY plate at the moment.

I really enjoyed Last Call
http://www.amazon.com/Last-Call-Tim-Powers/dp/0380715570/ref=ed_oe_p
Modern urban fantasy set in a Vegas ruled by the Tarot and the Fisher King. No elves or orcs or anything close to, just the badass chaos magic of probablity, gambling, and chance.
I'd recommend against graphic novels for a hospital stay; pound-for-pound they aren't good investments.
When do you go in? I can just lend you some books.

Last Call sounds entertaining.
I'm going up on Tuesday morning. I thought about borrowing books from friends, but hospitals are kinda gross and I don't think you want your books back after they've been in the hospital for 5 days. I don't buy books very often so I don't mind spending a little here. Compared to $60 games and stuff, books are pretty cheap.

I've been reading The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold, and I like it a lot. I stopped reading fantasy in high school, but this is a really good book. It's more politics and palace intrigue than swords and sorcery stuff I used to read. Supposedly it's based loosely on medieval Spain, but I wouldn't know much about that.
