From the founder of Original Recordings Group (a Universal Records Subsidary) http://www.originalrecordingsgroup.com/
We're going to be releasing a lot of classic alternative music from the 80s and 90s on 180 gram vinyl. Stuff that's more obscure and more popular. We're in negotiation with quite a few of those artists. We have some new accounts that are experimenting with vinyl, like Best Buy. I don't know how strong their initiative is, but they've alotted a little bit of floor space for vinyl.
But the bulk of the vinyl in the retail space goes through independent stores - the Amoebas and the Waterloos of the world that have always been in the vinyl business. But what's happening is more and more people are coming in with a curiosity about buying record albums
For Christmas, I got my GF the excellent Odelay re-release they did. Their next big plans are all of Nirvana's Major Label Recordings. I'm not really a Nirvana fan, but I hope they are able to integrate some of the B-Sides, Covers and Compilations as like 7"s. That would be really neat. What's really missing from a lot of these re-releases are contextual essays. Something which may be a bit redundant in the era of Wikipedia, but it's nice to have someone say why these albums are important beyond nostalgia.
They look like they're doing a lot of Jazz this spring.

I'd buy Nevermind on vinyl. Just for the sake of it.

I remember getting Nirvana Unplugged as a gift on vinyl years ago. Up to that point, I hadn't given much credence to the claims of vinyl's sound superiority over the supposed "sterility" of CD's, but it was a night and day difference. Made a believer out of me.
