Title: Pete Wanats opus is already 42 bucks. Worth it?
Post by: Grecco on March 30, 2009, 10:56:09 AM
Amazon dropped Wanted Weapons of Fate to 42 dollars already. Is it worth it at that price? Heard it lasted like 4 hrs.

Interesting.  Wondering the same thing.

Unfortunately, in one of the rare instances where a PS3 version is actually superior, only the 360 version has dropped to $42.

it's not even worth a rental. 2 weapons, shitty graphics, assy controls, no multi, extremely unfun turret sequences that couldnt possibly feel more out of place, boring level design (very corridor-y with almost no branching paths or alternate ways to complete)

and yeah it is like 4-5 hrs long. i beat it on assassin in less then 5 hours

turning in this game is worse then it is in killzone 2. which is quite an accomplishment

Aside from the fact that RE5 offers superior gameplay, CO-OP, and lots of additional content, it also requires much more than 5 hours for an initial playthrough.  Wanted is often quoted as being less than 4 hours long.

I made it to chapter 3-1 on Veteran in less than 2 hours last night.
First time playing the game?  If so, you're insanely fast.  I can easily do that now that I know the game, of course, but it certainly took longer than 2 hours the first time I played the game.

Are you really trying to compare RE5 to Wanted, though?

Well, I can say that the first two chapters went by pretty fast for me in CO-OP as well (don't recall the exact time).  I played the game with a friend over system link and it took a little over 10 hours to complete it the first time (according to the game clock, but we actually spent more like 13 hours).

I don't base my opinion on a game entirely on length, however.  Madworld was one of them ore enjoyable games I've played this year and I finished it in 3 hours.  It's fun to go back to just like RE5.  Wanted, however, doesn't seem like something I'd want to replay and it doesn't appear to offer anything extra to the players who wish to experience it again.

Playing Wanted now..

these graphics are soooooooooooo bad. The cut scenes look like they were outsourced to Brash Entretainment or something

Are they as bad as Rise of the Argonauts?  Argonauts might very well be the worst looking next-gen game ever.

Don't bother.  I wouldn't play Rise of the Argonauts for free.

Wanted looks a lot nicer on the PC (of course).  It's simple art direction benefits from 1080p 60 fps.  I suppose I'll give it a shot when it hits Target bargain bins for $7.48 (PC games always end up there).

I'll have to try that.  The only graphics options present in the demo were resolution and aspect ratio.  I didn't try forcing AA from the control panel, but I could see it not working.  It's made for a 360 pad, though.  Using a keyboard and mouse is awful and the game feels almost broken when using it (the menu navigation doesn't even work properly with a mouse).

Maybe its my tv but this game seriously needs a shot of AA. Ugg.

and the developer qoutes jesus

Pete Wanat: The only orgy i want to see in this game is an orgy of violence!  :lol

also its waaaaaaaaay too short. Theres an achievement for finishing the game in 2 hrs

OK, so ignoring the length, is it actually fun?  The demo had good core mechanics, but the level design (airliner) was a bit dull.

Its an average third person shooter ala Bourne Conspiracy/Uncharted/50Cent ect... with just one gun and the curving bullets gimmick. Neat for a rental, couldnt see myself ever buying this though

Those games were all pretty good in their own right, though (especially Uncharted).

I'll probably wait until it's cheaper and give it a shot.  I'm playing Bourne right now (which I found for cheap) and I'm having a pretty good time (though the level design is EXTREMELY repetitive visually and I don't like how hand-to-hand combat is completely divided from gun combat).
