It's such a freaking shame MS and Sony won't team up and form a new company devoted to electronic hardware.

Zune HD + PSP2 being combined into a single machine would be beyond awesome.  Of course so would Xbox720+PS4.

2) The Zune wasn't already worldwide? That's pretty wired.
It's fucking distinguished mentally-challenged... I'm still trying to get one fixed for someone because they live in a country where they shouldn't have been able to buy one.

Meh.

They can tinker around the periphery with the hardware. But, until they fix the horrifically shit awful software, then there still isn't a reason to get one. I'm still running two or three updates behind because I refuse to fuck my shit up again.

because it allows for cleaner, less pixelated art? fonts do scale, last i checked!

$290 for 32 gig zune, 220 for 16

I wish I didn't have an ipod touch so I can justify getting this.  This looks so much better.

it does.  It's one reason it's called Zune HD.

the screen itself isn't 720p, but it can output 720p video.  they can still be played on the zune hd, they just get downscaled.

*I do know that Unicode is now supported by Zune HD, for display of foreign language character sets. I presume it’ll be available for earlier models as well in this firmware update, but that’s my speculation.

Quote
*Equalizer settings are available for Zune HD. I do not expect that this will be available for earlier Zune players; again, that’s my speculation.

Quote
*For owners of earlier-generation Zune players, you’ll get a firmware update today. As far as I know, the update will not provide new functionality but will enable your player to sync with the new Zune PC software.

Quote
*While most of the Zune software updates listed above will benefit all Zune owners (HD as well as earlier models), some new Zune features will not work with older players. Apps from Marketplace won’t run on older-generation Zunes, for example. Curiously, older Zunes won’t be able to have rented movies synced to them, although they will be able to download and playback download-to-own files. Other features intrinsic to the touchscreen user interface of Zune HD, including the web browser and Quickplay, are available on Zune HD but not on earlier Zune models.

tl;dr just guesses from this man here.

lol, this thing is horrible.  I wish apple had a monopoly on the market so other companies wouldn't be able to embarrass themselves with their shitty attempts at copying the iphone/ipod.

who the hell would create zune apps?  there need to be people who actually own the thing to make that a viable option.

Tried it out.  It's nice, much nicer than itunes, but like itunes it does too much stuff all the time when I just need something basic for playing music.  I was hoping that mini-player would be a separate lite player instead of the full zune 'experience'.  Sticking with winamp again.
Title: Re: Zune HD?

honestly, i find both zune and itunes to be too much up in my business when it comes to renaming all my shit and generally pissing me off

i usually just drag a bunch of songs from a folder into wmp and make a playlist

i like simplicity

LOVE.

Right now I'm listening to Saturdays = Youth, Abbey Road, Resistance, and Fantasties. I don't know why, but I think it's really cool being able to pin these albums to the Zune main page and just click which album I want to listen to any given time.

Apparently the new Zune allows you do do pins as well. Fuck I need a Zune HD.

That is some slick looking stuff.  I don't do anything outside of finding music I like and hitting "play" (rather, I usually just connect my iphone to my swans m10s and go from there), but I like that interface.  Looks more useful than cover flow in itunes.

Post by: The Fake Shemp on September 15, 2009, 11:54:19 PM
Yeah, that's not really a bad deal at all.

I wish the was a Nano-like Zune that could compete with Apple's offerings, or maybe lower the price on the Zune HD (which is barely cheaper than the Touch).

I remember getting my original Zune and the software pretty much sucked. How far they've come in a short amount of time is pretty awesome.
Title: Re: Zune HD?
Post by: AdmiralViscen on September 16, 2009, 12:04:42 AM
I don't think that's gonna happen. I have a Zune16 and even I'd have to get an iPod Touch over a Zune HD if I needed a touchscreen toy.

These things are useless to me, as I only use portable media players when I'm on trips or something. I don't need that crap.

Those things might be useful for cellular devices, which I carry with me at all times, but I think are pretty much overrated when it comes to standard Wi-Fi devices. Hence why some of the most popular apps in the iTunes store are distinguished mentally-challenged.

On the contrary, I like both as PMPs, and will probably ask for a Zune HD this holiday season.

It's just that I think the need to criticize the Zune for a lack of apps seems kind of silly considering it's not a mobile phone, like the iPhone (which seems to lend itself more to the app store than the iPod Touch). Really, how many people plan to buy commercial apps for a sole PMP device?

... if we're talking a Zune cell phone, that'd be another matter.

I want to get the Zune HD because of all the good experience I had with the first gen Zune but because of the touch-screen and capacity I really just want the 120GB. And I don't know why people slam the Zune software, works better on Windows than POS iTunes does, my only problem is that if you put P2P music on there it fills in all the ID tags with NA if they aren't already filled. That shit annoys me.
