Title: x-blades
Post by: CHOW CHOW on April 11, 2009, 03:27:46 PM
anyone play this? the review i read said the combat system is surprisingly good...that alone is reason enough to give it a shot if you like 3rd person action games.  i don't think there's a demo, at least not on ps3.  i also haven't seen it at my blockbuster because it's probably too small of a game...

The videos looked awful and even the typical GameFAQqer responses weren't so hot when it came out.  Basically described it as a bad DMC clone with its selling point being the western-animu chick.  Better to wait for Bayonetta, me thinks.

EDIT: Hmm, people seem more favorable about it now.  Basically sounds like a 7/10 game that's ultra-repetitive and gets a bit better the more you play it.  Definitely sounds like the kind of game to rent or wait for bomba price drop on.

that's pretty much what i remember reading about it (your edit) + fun combat system...it sounds like a solid rental, but BB doesn't have it.  prices on ebay range from $30-35 for a used copy...not too bad

I see the price has dropped to $45 new ($50 USED, lol) at Gamestop.

Prole's comment has me scared to want to check it out though.  I bet the game's better than Golden Axe Beast Rider though.

If you can tolerate the reviewer's voice, this seems like a pretty honest take on it.

Two more

So it's definitely a 6-7/10 game.  I like the arcade hack n' slash genre, but I'm afraid to try this after Golden Axe.  Plus the description of "Paris Hilton: Treasure Hunter" for the main character pops up in more than one description of the game.

...Or is it?

Descructoid really makes it sound not worth it.

Judging from the demo, X-blades is pretty terrible.

It's like one of those early Xbox 1 games with gaudy anime art because they were designed to look like Japanese games yet they weren't actually made by Japanese devs.

What's the demo on, PC?

I think the last line (cut scene from the game) from the GT review seems to sum it up best- "GO AWAY, BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE."   :lol

Normally I'd go waste cash trying this, but Golden Axe pretty much scarred me for life.

All three versions have an average of about 50% at GameRankings.

And I played a little bit of it at my friends house and it was really bad.

What's up with crap like X-blades and Rise of the Argonauts?  They seriously look worse than God of War.

X-Blades was apparently developed in MOTHER RUSSIA by people who made some animu-Paris Hilton and then decided to try and craft a game around it.

If you got a capable PC, try the demo, or at least wait for a bigger price drop!

Sharkey over at 1up hated this game, one of my coworkers declared it to be terrible with a shit camera that tends to go under the floor when you're locked onto enemies.

I kind of want to try it anyway.  :shh

I just finished the demo. The combat is way too loose to actually feel like you are in control, but it's kind of a fun hack-n-slash.

Also, my PC has a single core Pentium and a x700 Radeon (4 years old) PCI-E graphics card. Had no problems running it on medium settings.

A good point that someone brought up there is that lot of the stuff he trashed the game for is the same in Oneechanbara, yet he gave that a B.

I dig hack n' slashers and beat-em-ups, so I'd like to try this one day, but not for $45.  It seems like a good garbage game for $10-$20 max.
