Ops, I meant the book, not the movie. The movie is pretty shitty compared to Michael Endes original book. Though the Sphinx Gates were pretty hot.

In any case, Falcor is among the lamest names ever.  What was he thinking?  Other names are pretty good though.

Maybe it was a typo and when he saw it he thought it was a cool name.

HE WAS WRONG.

What was the name of the land that the movie was set in?  I'm thinking "Eternia" but that's from He-Man.

Fantastica, I prefer Fantasia. It has to be the translation from German, some of the names/terms seem to be taken too literally but I guess its better that the translator didn't take any liberties in changing it up.

I guess a translation from original German explains a lot.  Atreyu is a good name - maybe that was the same as the German original.

Yeah, anyone who liked the movie(s) should really read the book.  The first movie is only based on the first half of the book (and tacks on a moronic ending), the second movie is very loosely based on the second half but it's mangled pretty badly so between them the structure and themes (and ending, and middle section linking the two halves) of the book as a whole are lost

I was surprised when I started the second half of the book, realizing where the second movie pulled the plot and devices from. The whole amulet that showed how many wishes Bastion had in the second movie was as ham fisted as it gets (if I remember correctly). The book definitely handled that with more subtlety.

I'm having seen this movie in like 15 years, probably wont see it again I remember it not being that good.

I think it's aged OK, but it is for kids so is probably pretty cringe-worthy when you watch it as an adult.

I'm getting the urge to watch it now though.  I think my mum has it on DVD so I should borrow it.

I missed out on it as a child, and I had a close friend insist that I give it a watch as an adult. It was downright painful to sit through.
