--Ninja Gaiden 2 - weapon master (1 for each weapon) - 5g each for beating the whole game with one melee weapon (though you can use ninpo and projectiles and run past many fights.)
--GRAW 1 - number 1 in the world in MP

Thats all you could think of?
-
I just started getting into achievements a few weeks ago. forgot to say, I'd like people to post them!
-
Thats all you could think of?
It's more than you brought. And you should be the expert on this topic, no?
I'm leaning toward Saints Row 2 having a metric ass-tonne of co-op Achievements, then having a bug which prevents co-op missions from being flagged as complete. Then having THQ tech support not ever mention a damned thing about the bug, even though it's gotta be common knowledge.
-
Riddick had an achievement for winning 1000 online matches and another for 10,000 kills. Too bad only like 15 people are playing it at any given time. It would take hundreds of hours of boosting to get both, how they expected people to get them legit boggles my mind.

Pretty sure they patched that.

anything with multiplayer or ranked achievements is fucking distinguished mentally-challenged
best one is bullet witches 1pt for beating the insane mode boss
-
Lots of the older 360 games had really odd achievements and point values.
Infinite Undiscovery gives you 1pt for beating the game on the hardest difficulty.
Blue Dragon has a lot of really tedious ones.
I think Timeshift had one where you needed to use your console as a multiplayer server for a certain amount of time.
-
Ghost Recon AW did. Something like 10hrs or some such bullshit
-
FEAR- there were plenty of multiplayer achievements, and no one played the multi. Even the singleplayer ones are ridiculously difficult (for example: beating the game without using slow motion) and require multiple playthroughs. I beat the game on the standard difficulty setting and received a grand total of 35 pts :-\
-
anything with multiplayer or ranked achievements is fucking distinguished mentally-challenged
:bow
Also, achievements that require you to buy a peripheral like the camera.
-
anything with multiplayer or ranked achievements is fucking distinguished mentally-challenged
THIS
I'm specifically thinking of the Halo 3 achievements that could only be accomplished during Lone Wolf matches. One was a ridiculous 4 kills in 5 seconds with the energy sword. I ended up doing what everyone else did and coordinated on the Chinese servers.
I do think that developers are getting better with achievements overall though. IW with CoD4 was smart and kept them all to sigle player.
-
Infinite Undiscovery's defeating the Etherial Queen on the hardest difficulty all for 1G. Didn't FFXI have ridiculously complicated achievements?

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/final-fantasy-xi/achievements/
Not really complicated, just incredibly time consuming.
-
I think Halo 3 has great achievements. I got the sword triple kill achievement legit, it's easy in a swords match. I'm only missing 3 of the online ones - mongoose splatter, overkill, double kill with laser. And I never even played Lone Wolves until a week or so ago.
I really don't like games that give you 3 or 9 or 6 points for stuff. Why can't they just round it off to 5s and 10s.
-
simple MP achievements are cool. it's the "Get 1000 kills with the pea shooter" and shit like that, especially for games that have shitty, deserted MP.
-
All of Halo's just require you to do singular cool stuff. The hardest one is probably to get a kill frenzy (10 kills without dying) in a free for all, but I got that on my first or second day of playing lone wolves.
It would have been a lot harder if I'd been playing Lone Wolves from day 1 though. It helps being a shitty level 7 or something from only playing team games for 2 years, it's easy to dominate people.
The DLC ones are even easier, it's shit like getting two double kills or meleeing someone with the flag. One of the Mythic one sucks though- two kills from the grave. First off, a lot of the time you'll kill a guy after you die and you won't qualify for a kill from the grave medal for whatever reason. Secondly, any achievement that asks you to do shitty is lame. You pretty much have to stick someone and then try to let them kill you before it blows up. I did it without boosting before I realized you could just load up the match with 8 people and get everything easily.
-
the original Halo 3 multi achievements are shit. I fucking hate lone wolves
-
In Hitman: Blood Money, one achievement asks you to get exactly 47 kills on a mission. I think it was also a secret achievement so there's no way in hell anyone would normally do it on accident (I used a guide).
I beat the game on the standard difficulty setting and received a grand total of 35 pts :-\
Exact same with PDZ.

If demi comes back with a list of achievements he doesnt like this thread must be renamed: Demis Log.
Gears of War 1: All the multiplayer - Esp. Kill 10,000 Ranked
Gears of War 2: Kill 20,000 Period (they fixed it so you can play single player but even that doesnt help) - Play 1999 Online Games
The Club: Kill 10,001 Ranked (a blemish on what would have been an awesome game)
TimeShift: Leave your Xbox on for 48 hours as Dedicated Server
The Orange Box: Play an online game with 7 of your friends at the same time
Rainbow Six Vegas: Reach Elite (unnecessary grinding - later fixed in Vegas 2 by allowing single player grinding)
Rainbow Six Vegas: Play Every map on Every Mode (this equals to about 57 maps total, instead of the default 8 or so. why?)
Mutant League Reloaded: Play levels 1 through 89 on Black Belt (hardest) (not really crappy, but god damn is it hard, so it goes on my list for ruining my almost 200)
Rayman Raving Rabbids: Get a perfect score on all the minigames (pretty much impossible with how shitty it controls. goes on the list.)
Rock Band 2: Play the Endless Setlist without pausing or failing. Great fucking idea.
Rock Band: Forcing you to play World Tour OFFLINE and WITH FRIENDS. Rock Band 2 obviously fixed this. Now I'm stuck with my measly 200 because I know nobody who plays RB on Expert or Hard.
Kane and Lynch: Reach #1 and #2 on Leaderboards (similar to GRAW, except on a game that nobody plays)
Medal of Honor Airborne: Too many 0 point achievements for doing too much work. "Come in first place on every map in any game mode in ranked matches" - 0 points
Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway: Making you play on a certain day that happens ONCE A YEAR. Making you play X days and X weeks. Making you play against someone who has a certain achievement. Just all wrong.
Call of Duty World At War: Making you play to 10th Prestiege for 0 points. No???
Bejeweled 2: Reach Level 255 in Endless Mode - takes FOREVER, upwards to 30 minutes just to finish 1 level in the later (re: About 50) levels
Mega Man 9: Clear the Game 5 times in 1 day
Texas Hold Em: Get each type of hand (chances of Royal Flush? slim to none)
Perfect Dark Zero: Just awful, all of them
In general: Difficulties that dont stack (huge no-no), online games that make you grind X kills, play X times, etc.
-
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 / GRAW2: Do X things with at least 6 players present
-
That Banjo N&B one was pretty lame too, playing an endless playlist. That's like 4 hours of just leaving your XBox on. And if you buy the DLC maps, it adds another 40 minutes to it unless you delete the DLC
-
Guitar Hero 3: All of it
-
Perfect Dark Zero: Just awful, all of them
I'll give you the singleplayer and co-op achievements (worst singleplayer campaign evar), but all the multiplayer ones are gettable offline with bots, which happens to be alot of fun.
*edit- woops. forgot that you can't have bots in dark-ops
-
Can you mess with 360 internal clock to get the Mega Man 9 one?
-
Can you mess with 360 internal clock to get the Mega Man 9 one?
I just read about it, it says
You don't actually need to beat the entire game five times from start to finish. You can load up a save right before Wily's Castle and finish the game 5 times this way to unlock the achievement.
So I guess that's not so bad.
-
Mutant League Reloaded:
Don't I fucking wish :'(
-

Wily's Castle is really like 3 or 4 levels. Still not worth it.
-
MM9 isnt difficult at all, though.
-
True, but it's still a boring pain in the ass.
-
In general: Difficulties that dont stack (huge no-no)
:piss DMC4 :piss2
-
Yeah, but DMC4 is GOTY so I will let it slide
-
The kill 50k+ zombies in Dead Risng was pretty horrible.
-
the reverse wind technique one for ng2
only because it never registered 4 me
worst achievement ever imnsho
The kill 50k+ zombies in Dead Risng was pretty horrible.
but you also got a big in game prize for your efforts, and its not like there wasnt a method to the madness. just plow zombies over in the tunnels & rinse & repeat. if there werent any tunnels to grind id say you had a point
-
Rock Band 2: Play the Endless Setlist without pausing or failing. Great fucking idea.
Rock Band: Forcing you to play World Tour OFFLINE and WITH FRIENDS. Rock Band 2 obviously fixed this. Now I'm stuck with my measly 200 because I know nobody who plays RB on Expert or Hard.
RB1 - yeah, those were ridiculous. Play all of those venues LOCAL only, more than one player required. And all of those 10 pt. "Big in Metropolis" Achievements are dumb, because they also require that you have someone over locally, or play two instruments at a time. I've done it, but it's not fun.
RB2's Endless Setlist 2 is longer than the first one, but at least you can do it by yourself, right? I've thought about having a party around trying to finish that one Achievement, playing in round-robin. But anyone who plays RB well enough to commit to something like that is going to want the gamerscore, too.
Kane and Lynch: Reach #1 and #2 on Leaderboards (similar to GRAW, except on a game that nobody plays)
Wouldn't the fact that no-one plays it make it easier to get #1 and #2 on Leaderboards?
Medal of Honor Airborne: Too many 0 point achievements for doing too much work. "Come in first place on every map in any game mode in ranked matches" - 0 points
But it's 0 points. Your gamerscore is intact. Isn't that kind of nice? Or are you just a completionist?
-

yeah, but it's so boring. :-\
i think i almost reached 30k when i thought "fuck it".
oh and
TimeShift: Leave your Xbox on for 48 hours as Dedicated Server
wow horrible :lol
Cuboid for Ps3 also had a similar distinguished mentally-challenged trophy, but you had to play the game 8 hours non-stop to get that said trophy.
it's the only tophy in the game i haven't got.
-
But it's 0 points. Your gamerscore is intact. Isn't that kind of nice? Or are you just a completionist?
Why bother having it?
-
There are achievements who "reward" you with 0 points?
Really?
That's so distinguished mentally-challenged.
-
Some of them are good though, I think one of the fighting games gave you 0pts if you lost 10 ranked matches in a row or something.
-
But it's 0 points. Your gamerscore is intact. Isn't that kind of nice? Or are you just a completionist?
Why bother having it?
Why bother having any of them?
-
Hey Boscious, nice to see you bless us with your uninteresting presence
-
You're welcome.
0 points, 100 points, 5 points, 5000 points. Big whoop. Did you enjoy the game? Find it to be an adequate way to waste your copious free time?
-

I hate achievements like this. Such as Fable 2 where you get an achievement for choosing each of the three endings so you just reload and choose differently three times.
Any achievement that tries to force multiple playthroughs sucks, and if I'm reloading to get an achievement it often means the achievement sucked.
-
You're welcome.
0 points, 100 points, 5 points, 5000 points. Big whoop. Did you enjoy the game? Find it to be an adequate way to waste your copious free time?
Play games all day, work all day, hard decision
-

Really?
That's so distinguished mentally-challenged.
It sucks because then you can get 1000/1000, but your game will still only say 96% complete or what have you.
I've never gotten 1000/1000 anyway though, lol
-
Kameo had a bunch of 0 pt achievements if I remember correctly.
-
DoA4 had a 0 pt achievement for losing 20 times in a row online. I thought that was pretty sweet, actually.
-
DoA4 had a 0 pt achievement for losing 20 times in a row online. I thought that was pretty sweet, actually.
yeah I like those ones. anything with a bit of thought in it.
i should find the edge article on achievements they had a year ago, it was a good read
-
I was in Boscius' place once, but then I started nearing 10,000 and I got that itch. The meta-game concept is pretty cool. I still won't play through a game if I don't like it just for achievements (though I almost picked up Avatar for $5), but I'm actually paying attention to them now. When they're good, they do add a lot to the experience. I like RE5's a lot--not too ridiculous and there are plenty of easy ones to string you along. I play for a while, then take a break to get achievements in 1-1. Most of them can be had in the first playthrough with light grinding and the post-game ones are within decent grasp by the time you're done with the game.

I'm interested

I was in Boscius' place once
Boscious likes to chime in with one of his Jerry Seinfeld anecdotes in every thread regardless.
"WHY do this?"
"WHY bother?"
"WHO cares?"
-
maybe he's having an existential crisis
-
Maybe he's impossibly rich and just pondering the state of the world while vacationing in Svenborgia.
-
Maybe he doesn't like pretzels.
Explains everything.
-
Infinite Undiscovery gives you 1pt for beating the game on the hardest difficulty.
Bullet Witch had one like this, too.
-
N+ co-op achievement. A friend and I have ran through the co-op episodes 3 times. He has the achievement, and I don't. ???
-
Speaking of achievements, what would be the best way to score the triple flip achievement in Crackdown? I got the other vehicle achievements by near accident, and I have to admit that it irks me that this one has yet to be cleared.
-
Set up a car ramp near the ferris wheel, drive down the road and hit it, then hope you hit 3 flip. Best done with the DLC car, the skinny buggy one
-
You can probably get four flips if you use the DLC buggy. You don't even need a ramp, there's a lip near the one of the beaches you can use.
-

I thought you could get the forward and backward flips with the buggy by just driving up the wall there at the beach. The way the car is designed, even as it flips onto its back and continues rolling back to rightside-up, it counts as not stopping the flip.
It was the rolls I had the most trouble with.
-
Fear 2 has one where you have to rank up to a 4 star general or something. The thing is, you have to play for like 300 hours to get enough exp for that. And fear 2 multi sucks, so...
-
Near the beach is where I got the other stunts completed, using that angled rock and the SUV jump. But it's short half a flip, so maybe I'll try it with the ramp.
-
In general: Difficulties that dont stack (huge no-no)
:piss DMC4 :piss2
well there kinda is a reason for DMC4 achievements not stacking... If youre going for the 1000 you'll need to play through all difficulties to grind for kills, orbs etc. and S-ranking every level on Human is actually much harder than S-ranking on Devil Hunter - due to enemies dying so easily, thus making it very difficult to rack up decent style points
-
Turok's team-killing multiplayer achievement that they removed with a patch. Only a dumbshit clueless producer would come up with something that stupid.
-
my personal most hated achievement has to be Treasure Trove in Lost Odyssey though :'( I still have bad dreams about it
-
my personal most hated achievement has to be Treasure Trove in Lost Odyssey though :'( I still have bad dreams about it
I didn't even bother to attempt that and the learn all skills achievements for the immortals. I had no idea what I was missing.
-
Forza 2.
"Buy all cars from <insert region here>" and the secret achievements (buy all production cars, buy all race cars, buy all cars).
I got everything from everyone except some Porsche and Audi cars in Germany and most of the Japanese cars. To get enough money to buy all these things I'd need to run 36 simulated R1/Sebring endurance races. I'd rather play, y'know, games instead of dedicating my Xbox to simulated races for an entire week.
And there's the whole "get 1mil credits online" achievement. I don't want to play Forza 2 online for a long ass time.
-
my personal most hated achievement has to be Treasure Trove in Lost Odyssey though :'( I still have bad dreams about it
yeah that shit looked ridiculous. Basically asking you to press A (or whatever the examine button was) on fucking everything.
-
Isn't there a teamkill achievement in Turok?
-
Isn't there a teamkill achievement in Turok?
There was, but it was patched out on launch day.
-
Turok has some fucking abysmal achievements.
-
Turok has some fucking abysmal achievements.
bishoptl lol
-
Turok has some fucking abysmal achievements.
so it matches the game then?
-
FEAR 2's got an achievement for committing suicide 5 times.
I know this because I just now unlocked it accidentally by shooting rockets on to enemies in close proximity to myself. Got it purely by coincidence and of course being shit at the game :-\.
-
new winner
http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/ufc-personal-trainer/achievement/54463-Training-Devotee.html
-
uh... thats hardly bad. mortal kombat's "do fucking everything" achivement is worse.
-
Do you really want to use Kinect for 100 days in a row?
-
you dont even have to try. this is fatty hand wringing
-

i like the coincidence that this thread gets bumped right as I'm going through FEAR 3. Of course I'm playing it on the PC so I couldn't care less about the achievements this time 'round (lol steam).
360 'cheever 4 lyfe
-
Mortal Kombat's mastery achievement is completely distinguished mentally-challenged, but at least you can just leave your console on for a month for it to unlock itself
I could fill a page with distinguished mentally-challenged achievements though.
-
I honestly believe that j-devs Just Don't Get Achievements.
There are a few on my team who are die-hard Xbox fans, and they actually know how to design an interesting Achievement. But mostly people own the PS3, no-one cares about Trophies, and the general consensus seems to be very much, "Oh, these are supposed to be hard, so let's make most of them nearly impossible."
-
But most of the best achievements come from Japanese developers. A good achievement should be 1) hard to get and 2) completely dependent on player skill.
A perfect achievement set would be something like: 500 points just for playing through a game normally, an additional 200 points for playing it on the highest difficulty, 100 points for oddball achievements, and the final 200 points should be reserved for the absolute best players who can complete the most difficult tasks (note: grinding to level 99999 or collecting 1000000 turds is NOT difficult - just time consuming). For example, 1cc'ing a game, getting the highest grade on every mission, getting a high score, etc. No collectathon achievements and especially no multiplayer achievements.
A game that's easily completable by anyone does not have good achievements.
-
You know a game is japanese when you have to play it 30 fucking times
