Title: Fuuuuuuu. This 70,000 software package blows.
Post by: GilloD on April 21, 2009, 12:35:55 PM
My company is installing a new ERP backend. First: Large portions of it' HORRIBLE and UNSEARCHABLE online manual are still in fucking FRENCH. Super Mario Bros had a better manual. It has no index and it is unsearchable. Chew on that for a bit. It's just a bunch of unmarked HTML files. I'm going to have to index it myself.

Second, no one there seems to have any fucking idea how to use the thing. The price tag is already enormous (Somewhere near 70k, with consulting), but no one seems to ahve the slightest idea how to fix it when it breaks.

For example: Yesterday, I find out that if I insert a default value into a field and that value has a SPACE in it, I get an error in FRENCH. I screencap it, send it to their tech dudes and they say, "Oh, you shouldn't get that too often". MOTHERFUCKER, I get it VERY often. I copuld go get it right now! And I told you that. That was their official reply: "Oh, you shouldn't get it". BUT I DID. AND I AM. The cost for that non-answer? Twenty Five fucking dollars in "service time".

Also, ANY defualt values for those fields don't show up. Their reply, "Fill them out by hand lol". We have several hundred items, each with about 40 fields. 95% of those fields can be satisfied with default values. But I can't have them because? ?

Fucking fuckjkkkfdkdsfhfdhsdf.

Sorry. This project has to be done by June 16th. like HAS TO. Or else there is no business. And instead of working on this fucking enormous To-Do list, I'ms itting here with both hands up my ass because 70,000$ isn't enough to get an answer out of anyone.

Ah yes, ERPs. Always seems like a good idea at first, then you get horrible support/backwards-ass software/customization options/idiot consultants. I cut my teeth with SAP a couple of years ago which pretty much traumatized me.

They're looking at using SAP on campus next year, and my boss has already told me that he'd like me to basically figure out how to master it from a backend/support POV.

SAP is incredibly useful to know.  So many people use it and/or want to convert to it.  It really is an awesome system.  Just horribly, incredibly fucking complicated.  Versatile as playdough and rubber dildos though.

Yeah I kinda regret not taking the certification for it (consultants are highly in-demand and some of my friends are raking in the big bucks already), but I really, truly do not have any patience for much of its backend/ABAP bullcrap.
