Title: A bit of Infamous footage
Post by: duckman2000 on April 22, 2009, 01:47:28 AM
Looks real good, seems like SP has used its experience well and hit a good balance between the cartoony and the "realistic."

The platforming looks incredible.  The shooting still doesn't look too great but the rocket and sniper beam powers seem nice.

as for the style being a mix of cartoony and realistic, I think it's a bit too realistic for how all the animations and move are setup.  I don't think cel shading would have been better, I just think that there could have been a more consistent look in line with the movement.

Well the combat looks great now actually.  The new "weapons", dismembering robots, and the fortress in general look like a lot of fun.  The jumping hangtime is still a little bit off but it's not a big problem.

Well, I was thinking more about the game as whole, not so much the visual presentation. Looking at for example Insomniac, they seemed to have really tempered the wackiness of Resistance in order to keep it from feeling cartoony, which I think might have made the game less interesting than it had to be. And then you have Naughty Dog, whose first (and so far only) games this generation feel nearly damning of the ND legacy. I'm not getting that from Infamous at all. Obviously we are not talking ninja spires here, but the platforming looks somehow both deep and effortless. And instead of ditching it, they have gone with a different type of comic presentation.

The evasive moves are pretty damned fluid. I guess that's one benefit of not arming the dude.

yeah, the evasive moves looked straight out of an action game rather than a shooting, which is pretty awesome.  The one thing I'm hoping they have the option for with the combat is letting you aim without going into that RE4/Gears 3/4th behind the back view.

I think you can still run in that mode.

Game looks boring. Way too repetitive.

The setting reminds me of Fallout 3. And that's a good thing imo.

The game looks amazing and very fun to play.

Only thing that worries me is movement. So far what i've seen all feels too gamey, i don't get the same sense of momentum and unpredictability that i did in Uncharted and Assassins Creed, and even GTAIV.

For a game that has sort of a parkour gameplay feature, i would've expected something "more", this point in the generation.

Meh, I like some variety, and at this point I'd take exaggerated and exciting moves over yet another game that burdens itself with realism. It's great for them that they do what they do, but I don't see a problem with this. I guess I don't think "gamey" is a bad thing for this game.

This looks really good, and has the one thing I wanted in Crackdown - battles with other super-powered characters.  I'll definitely think about picking this one up!

It's especially annoying in Crackdown as it does tease you on the subject of possible super-gangsters. But of course you're instead tasked with eliminating the dude in charge of the research.  :gloomy

I just wanted to see some flow in his movement, you know, even if he could jump from a building to another without suffering a scratch, i just wanted some more animation work, for it to be more spectacular.

I'm a bit more excited for this game than i was awhile ago though, i like the exploding cars. Will have to buy used on the cheap though, no money to spare :(

I refuse to actually do this because god damn it, I don't do stuff like this, but I'm tempted to put together an evasive moves reel. Maybe I can inspire someone on GAF to do it for me.
