Title: What are you playing this weekend?
Post by: Rman on April 24, 2009, 04:55:33 PM
Thinking of playing a variety of games--Persona 3, Etrian Odyssey 2, Burnout Paradise, OutRun XBLA, MotorStorm: PR, RE5, Dead Space, Banjo: NB, and SFIV.

Bit and pieces of each.

Work

Etrian Odyssey 2- Still on the 2nd Stratum.

Dark Spire- Characters at level 3 and just barely survived getting out of the basement.

Zelda Oracle of Seasons- Never played all the way through this so I'm thinking about booting it up this weekend.

Home

Outrun- Fun!

Street Fighter IV- CE mode is out and have been messing around with that. Not much different other than a new grading system and that you can't see who your opponent picks. Really wish there was lobbies though.

Fallout 3- Character is now at level 16 and I may just stop playing once I hit 20 and wait for the expansion.

I finished Deus Ex: Invisible War the other day, but I don't really have anything lined up yet. Maybe I'll go back to The Witcher or Drakensang.

Thanks. I stopped playing after I got out of the tutorial zone. Will put some real time into it later. It seems alot more social then WoW, so I'm hoping it's really fun. "New" MMO concepts excite me, like Huxley and Global Agenda(I REALLY WANT TO PLAY THIS).

Cart racing is like GripShift Lite. The last update they did put in an in-game video capture with direct Youtube upload, which is really cool.

Outrun Online - Trying to get the achievements for that heart mode and the 15 course time trial.

SF4 - I've been playing online more because of the update. My psycho powers have increased a bit. Only won one "tourney" so far. Watch my match! ;)

Street Fighter 4 - Blanka baybee 8)
I watched your match earlier today thanks to the new update. Play me one day, I hardly ever get to fight Blanka players.

Doing a second run of RE5, but it's not as engaging as the 2nd, 3rd or 4th RE4 playthroughs. I'll probably go back to Gears 2 later on. Hey Zero, if you're up around 1-2am EST we'll do some co-op.

ME is one of the few games where the achievements entice you to try everything. I love it because it can be played in short bursts. The first time through probably took 4-5 hours. But, I flew through the second run in probably less than 2 hours. Totally opened up the game too because I knew what to expect.

I love the color palette too. The contrast of the red and white looks so good. Everyone else notice that the greenery is white? I was talking about it with a buddy and he never did. Just wondering if its that easy to miss.

Street Fucker IV: I may be outta commission at the moment on Live due to my stupid-ass fuck-up, but I'm still getting my SF4 fix on PSN!  Championship mode is fun; like that it masks the character select, and so far, no droppers...even the ones with 1 or 2% didn't quit.  Maybe the message is getting through?

That's it so far.  Will probably play some Oboro Muramasa and maybe get back to Musou Orochi Z.  Deathsmiles is sitting here too and I might just go ahead and start playing it on my silver J360 account.

LittleBigPlanet story mode - once I got used to the floaty controls and the plane-switching, I'm having a lot of fun... Level design is pretty creative in the story mode.

Star Ocean 4 - gonna beat the final dungeon and start the first of the postgame dungeons, probably this afternoon.

I think the user creation stuff was hyped up so much that the MM-designed stuff was unfairly neglected. I was pretty surprised by the quality of the story mode.

I got Guitar Hero Metallica from Gamefly yesterday.  I played though the guitar career and I'm doing drums next, and I noticed one hilarious thing: the guitar "gimmicks" – notes during sustains, tap notes – are detrimental to the gameplay, yet the gimmicks for drums – freeform fills, "sustains" – are beneficial.  This is Guitar Hero, tacked on drum gameplay shouldn't be better than the series' main focus.

Oh, and it has Queen, Master of Puppets, Welcome Home Sanitarium, Nothing Else Matters, The Unforgiven, a Thin Lizzy master track (lol Harmonix), etc.  Metallifacts and lyrics are pretty boss, too.

Wish Harmonix would release a lot of the Metallica tracks as DLC already, if only so I can enjoy them on guitar.  (Well, that and so I can play them after I'm finished with GHM, too.)

As a filthy American, the European geography is killing me. I can only get the Scandinavian countries and that one island with the funny accent.

The Music and Geography classes are new, and I've not done the Santa missions yet, but I don't recall them from the first game. I think I had a Santa outfit at one point though. Or that might have been a crappy sweater from Hopkins' mom.

As for myself, I'm lazing through some Saints Row 2, and suffering through the sloppy controls and bad camera of HULK (360). How come it's supposedly similar to Ultimate Destruction, but done so horribly wrong? What's different?

So I grabbed Left 4 Dead from Blockbuster, but some cock put Rise of The Argonauts behind it and I didn't see what I had taken until I got home. Played it for 2 hours and quit in disgust. Awful game.

Then I took it back and traded it for Silent Hill Homecoming since there weren't any actual copies of L4D there. No invert camera control? Are you fucking kidding me? Ugh.

I will be picking Debora when I pick up DQ5 ds. Haven't played the ds version but when I played the snes version I picked Nera first (her name wasn't Nera in the version I played wtf) and then it went on a guilt trip. I rebooted, picked the almighty Bianca.

I was too lazy to get into a game that required attention so I played some Samurai Western.  This game is so awesome.

I demand you tell me about this game, swaggaz..

There isn't that much to tell.  You're some samurai guy who is in the wild west to find some guy and just happen to kill a bunch of guys while there.  The main gimmick to the game is that you're some crazy ass samurai fighting enemies who all use guns, but since you're so awesome, you have the ability to deflect or dodge every bullet shot at you (you have to time it before the bullet actually hits you).  It plays somewhere between a musou game and Shinobi on PS2, and it makes you feel like Goemon from Lupin the 3rd.  It's really shallow, but it's fun to face a bunch down a bunch of gunslingers using only a sword.  Plus it is a bit of an spin off from the Way of the Samurai games, so you have a bunch of sword styles to specialize in from different stances, two swords or Kenshin style where you slash only after drawing from the sheath.

Tried out some RE5 online co-op today, was pretty cool. But wtf is up with not being able to share weapons? I felt like a dumbass wielding the hydra while my brother was searching desperately for pistol ammo.  :lol

There was stealth in GTAIV? Holy shit is that game forgettable as hell.

You can crouch. You can silence your cellphone, a game mechanic which is seen exactly once in the game. ::)

HAVE YOU GOTTEN TO THE PART WHERE YOU DRIVE THE GUY AROUND?

AND THEN

YOU DRIVE TO THAT PLACE AND KILL A GUY.

Okay, so for kicks I decided to play San Andreas. I never finished it the first time and didn't really give it a fair chance.

Holy shit. What the fuck happened to Rockstar between the completion of SA and the release of GTA4? Did everyone have a stroke at once? Was there something in the water? I'm baffled as to how they went from a game so good, then completely did a 180 and made a game that was so bad.

They tried to make an Oscar worthy story and forgot to include the gameplay.

Sly Cooper then Jak 3

I'm also considering renting Wolverine Origins after playing the demo just now.  It's pretty fun and surprisingly violent for a movie tie in game.  The cutscenes were also better than the actual movie, so yeah.

Good grief. How many Achievements are you going for on Gears? I can't stand the "you're only ever going to play this game" nature of the Achievements in it.

been playing Bully on the 360 for gamerscore mainly, Ive played it on PS2 but thought I'd give the enhanced version a run-through cos its a great game. Achievements are pretty good, but the extra content is pretty bad - all those Santa missions were homo as. Were they actually in the original game? Geography classes are fucking awesome though

What's different?

yeah it was probably just he sweater lol. The Santa missions themselves werent too bad but I had to skip all the cutscenes, there was some typical drunk bum Santa who wasnt funny at all.

Anywhoo got 1000/1000 in Bully (http://opa-ages.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/blingbling1lv.gif)
Saturday morning here so just going to wash my ass, launder my undies, probably cook some eggs and play:

Outrun XBLA -still trying to get some achievements and shit
Orange Box - gotta finish episode 1 & 2 then I'll run back through the main game for some achievements I missed

Still dicking around with Persona 3, bout 20 Hours in. And still playing through Earthbound & Yggdra Union on PSP

Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram - Love this game, I'll be playing it online all weekend. I'm trying to rank up and get my win/lose ratio up to 1:1.

SFIV - I'm always trying to get better with Bison. A friend is having an online tourney tomorrow night. Hopefully I don't get scrubbed too bad.

Outrun Online - I got 3 more achievements to get and I'll probably play some online races.

Blue Dragon - If I have time I'll finish disc 2 this weekend.

The SO4 optional content is addicting as hell, just made a weapon that majorly boosted my ATK power... went from 2800 to over 4000...

Up to the final floor of the Cave of the Seven Stars, characters are about level 160. Then it's off to try and take down Etherial Queen in the second bonus dungeon... though I dunno if I'm even gonna bother at this point. I've been playing the game for almost 100 hours!  :o

Making decent progress on Persona.  Doubt I'll replay the game after I beat it for the ENTIRELY OTHER GAME in the snow queen quest though.

I started Klonoa.  Only lasted about one cutscene before switching the english va off. Lasted 2 before deciding to skip all cutscenes.  I don't play games for stories load the next stage goddammat.  Klonoa is slow paced, for awhile I was yearning for a run button. I accepted it for the relaxing puzzle platformer it was and enjoyed it up to level 3 where I couldn't find a locked door for the life of me. Turns out its not in an immediately obvious perspective UNLESS YOU WATCHED THE CUTSCENE.  Oh well.  It reminds me of why I like games otherwise.  Simple controls and revisting problems and scenarios with slightly different twists.

I really want to get back to Excitebots.  These alt costume requirements are ridiculous but I must have cow skin grasshopper.

See, I'm just going to stick with the ones I have now. If I end up finding 5 more, I'll spend the rest of time trying, and failing, to find the last one. And the hidden orbs can just take a hike.

Played some online coop deathsmiles.  It rocked and you get extra slowdown to help dodge stuff :D  Played a lot of the game today and rounded out most of the non-psycho achievements.  It's a good game and an EXCELLENT port.  Cave's first internal port is damn near perfect.  Only thing missing is a superplay dvd like the Arika ports on PS2.  If all future Cave ports are like this, shmup fans are in for a treat.  Cannot fucking wait for Mushihime-sama Futari now.  It's a lot better game than Deathsmiles and you get to shoot the hell out of a t-rex in the first level :D

Gonna go beat Fallout 3 tonight before I hit the sack.

Terrorist hunt is really easy to exploit, as clusters of enemies have predetermined spawn points and routes based on which approach you take. Cheap as hell, but then so is forcing players to gain experience to unlock camouflage options.

True.  I was using lightning + wrench + the wrench upgrade tonic or lightning bolt shotgun rounds (on big daddies) on my first playthrough.  The very beginning of the game before you get money is a bit tough since EVE is a little more sparse.  I wish they balanced a more hardcore mode where you can't buy eve or something.

The original Persona is nice and all, but the balance seems off.  It's either too easy or too hard.  It's a fun crawl dungeon crawler though, but yeah it totally does not compare to P3/P4.  It feels closer to the Suikoden I of Megaten if anything.

Fallout 1 is by far the most fun game I have played in forever.

I start playing in the evening and I feel like it's getting late and should find a stopping point and it's 2-3am every night and then I sleep for 5 hours and wake up at 8 :(  I need to stop doing this.  But it's soooooooo much fun.  I am becoming unstoppable killing machine and unlike Fallout 3 where it was just too easy, here it's actually really satisfying to be the unstoppable killing machine because it's normal not easy and you have to work to get to being awesome.  I also dig how the game is totally about replay value.  The game really forces you to specialize in a very small set of skills that make your playthrough pretty unique unlike Fallout 3 where you are good at everything.  But then the game is really short so you actually want to replay it with different style characters.

Also, in this case point n' click world map ftw ;P
