You nitpick HD gaming so much so why even bother playing Wii games?

Demi is right, I tried playing Okami on Wii the other day - man it felt like someone smudged vaseline over my glasses. Also wtf, at that long ass opening, put me right off the whole thing.

You saw for yourself how Twilight Princess Wii looked worse than TP GC even though they are the same game.  Wii makes everything look shit.  If a game does not look shit on the Wii you will go  :o like with Mario Galaxy or Smash.

Enjoy being horrified by every game you buy/pirate.

If you actually sit down and play for dozens of hours on a single game your eyes will get used to the ugly and will adjust.

The reason some games look like shit and have problems like dithering/banding is because they're 24 bit color or less

Framebuffering is a big limitation and bottleneck for the Wii. If EFB/XFB (extended and external framebuffers) were bigger we'd have more games running in True Color and at higher resolutions. As it is we often come out with games that are either 16-bit color (like Gamecube games), 18-bit colour (6 bits for R, G, B, the remaining 6 for alpha), or 24-bit color.

A lot of the texture work done for some Wii games is actually really nice. Take a look at some of those games running in the Dolphin emulator and without those framebuffer limitations and you'll see what I mean.

The better looking games -- the Mario Galaxies and so on -- are just using the system more cleverly.

Twilight Princess is a Gamecube game remember. And one that doesn't even look as good as Wind Waker...

CRT's are a Wii's best friend.  I've got mine hooked up to my roomie's HD CRTV and it actually looks halfway decent (image quality wise I mean).

Of course the graphics aren't usually good.  A Wii owner complaining about bad graphics is like a dude in Antarctica bitching about the cold, nobody forced you to live there, if you don't like you should move.

i was expecting poor IQ from the wii but i wasn't prepared for the fucking nasty dithering

so it's more like i moved to antarctica knowing it would be cold as fuck, but i wasn't well informed about just how fucking cold it would be. however since i'm here now and not quite ready to move i'll just continue bitching ;)

I think I may quit forums if people are constantly going to shit on games for lack of [insert online feature here], jaggies, framerates, overblowing small balance issues, etc.
More talk about level design and controls and gameplay please.
...
I do love me some 60 fps though, no matter how ugly.

Is the gameplay holding up?  I liked how straightforward the game looks in videos.  Just need confirmation of good pacing, layout, and enemy variety.

No.

I'm not sure if it's the Wii's fault but the colors are very faded and dull.  It looks weird.  :\

A lot of PS2 games actually run with 24-bit color, actually.  Wii sucks ass.

Never owned a Gamecube?  Same problem.  I suppose this time around there are fewer developers trying to push the hardware, though, so the results seem even worse.

It is so weird how Mario Galaxy can look so fantastic, a clear step up from GameCube but everything else looks like shit. what the hell did mario galaxy do right?

I wouldn't even say Galaxy was a clear step up.  It was a huge improvement over Sunshine, but that doesn't mean they couldn't have achieved much of it on Gamecube.  There were plenty of other GC efforts that still impress.

1. SMG looks good because of brilliant art direction, and clever programming tricks.
2. Wii games look like shit because most people don't think there's any incentive in bothering to push the hardware, or hell, even remotely adequately utilizing it. There's no reason 99% of Wii games should look worse than Pikmin.

No to your "no."  :P

On the color thing, I think that's the style they were going for.  One thing you certainly can't fault Oboro for is its visuals, however.  It looks fantastic.  Maybe it's your TV or something.

Now what's weird to me is why some GC port-ups don't even look as good as the originals, like RE4 Wii Edition and Biohazard 0.
