Title: Brothers Karamazov - which translation?
Post by: Guybrush Threepwood on April 25, 2009, 03:09:32 PM
I'm interested in reading The Brothers Karamazov, but I'm undecided as to which translation to read. Right now I'm torn between the Pevear/Volokhonsky translation and the MacAndrew translation, and after reading the first page of each one on Amazon, I'm kind of leaning toward the MacAndrew translation.

For those on EB who have read it, which translation would you recommend?

it's not like i know any russian, but pevear and volokhonsky are consistently very good, and the professor of the only good literature class i took in college used their translations whenever available

Pevear and Volokhonsky's translation is pretty much unanimously considered the best
