I personally just found out about him from a youtube comment (good lord). His use of macabre imagery and splashes of vibrant color just blows me away.

From his Wiki
Zdzisław Beksiński (24 February 1929 – 21 February 2005) was a renowned Polish painter, photographer, and sculptor who is best known as a fantasy artist. Beksiński executed his paintings and drawings either in what he called a 'Baroque' or a 'Gothic' manner. The first style is dominated by representation, with the best-known examples coming from his 'fantastic realism' period when he painted disturbing images of a surrealistic, post-apocalyptic environment. The second style is more abstract, being dominated by form, and is typified by Beksiński's later paintings. Beksiński was murdered in 2005.
Edit: Holy shit
'I wish to paint in such a manner as if I were photographing dreams.
That's pretty much the dream scenario I have in mind. Take the grand imagery or poignant moments in the dream and transfer them to the canvas.

this guy is pretty amazing. i knew him through the lovecraft cover that kosama posted

That's really awesome art. I especially like the scale in the second and third paintings.

Not quite the same, but John Martin (of who I learned from the cover of a Lovecraft compilation ;) ) is pretty good too in this kind of imagery:

Wow, Martin definitely also has that eerie feel to his work. On his wiki

The Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah,
That's really awesome art. I especially like the scale in the second and third paintings.
He definitely seems to play with scale a lot (which I love). Gives a sense that your viewing something that's beyond yourself.

That 3rd drawing is SICK! Dude was definitely a metal head or something. :rock Great artwork.

It's interesting how there's a crucifix in the first one and the mother has the virgin Mary look to her.
not sure what the meaning is there.
