Title: I bought Banjo-Tooie on XBLA. u mad?
Post by: Olivia Wilde Homo on April 30, 2009, 09:40:22 PM
Yep, u mad.

First impressions: it looks a little cleaner than BK XBLA.  BT ran at about 10 fps at most on the N64, we'll see how the 360 version turns out.

Downside, it is 1200 pts.

I'll buy it later.  I'm trying to get every achievement in Banjo Kazooie and I'm getting burnt out.  Gonna save my points for SPACE INVADERS EXTREME on Wednesday. :hyper

I'm up to WitchyWorld with no slowdown at all, not even the water slowdown from BK XBLA.

I'm not super impressed with the game though (playing for the first time). I feel like the worlds are too big and it's hard to know what they want you to do to get a jiggie. I spent half an hour wandering WitchyWorld and got 1 jiggie for it.

I never played Tooie either. I bought the N64 cart with this in mind but it will rot now that I have yummy yum yum version

I got the original cart back when GS/EB was doing buy 1 get 1 to flush out all the old-gen inventory. I could never stomach the frame rate though. This version is rock solid.

I was an N64 guy, as it kicked ass, but I never bought either of these games. Collection fests suck.

It really isn't that much worse from every other 3D platformer. The most egregious thing in the first one is having to get almost all of the musical notes. But jiggies are just symbols of completed missions, Jinjos are pretty much just red coins and can be skipped, and everything else is just ammo.

in Banjo Tooie all of the collectables come in packs of 5 so you collect way less of them and your ammo is always maxed out. And they scrapped mumbo tokens, you just have to collect one little dude that is usually 5 feet away from the transformation hut.

I would totally buy PD, especially if it has online Co op and Counter Op

I dunno, some super secret spy shot. That same game icon was shown on Rare's website a month or so ago, in the background on someone's gamercard.

And Bean was apparently the codename for GoldenEye remake

Fuck, I'd love Perfect Dark Online with a steady framerate, online play, and dual analog control. Online co-op would be cool also.

Definitely. I fucking loved PD multiplayer, with all the crazy bots and shit.

Perfect Dark multiplayer sucked compared to Goldeneye. I would love me some Goldeneye remake, although it won't happen.

I bought the first one but the graphics were wooooooow in a very bad way and I couldn't play it.  I'm not a fan of these N64 w/smooth non-textures upgrades.  I'd rather just play the crummy looking N64 game where things don't look totally out of place.

if true though ill buy PD for sure.

BT looks quite a bit cleaner but I do see what you're saying.  I don't really mind the smooth non-texture upgrades

Why would you buy something for 1200pts without even trying the demo to make sure you actually want to purchase this? ??? I see so many people doing this and it's baffling.

lol 'juggo' has a shitty gamerscore

Im actually kinda interested in Tooie, I played the fuck out of BK1 on the N64 *fairly* recently (2005/6) and it was still super enjoyable. Held up way better then Buck Bumble  :-X

But 1200 points another load of urine in the face, would it be better spent on the new Puzzle Quest? I should get the demo

Now that I'm back from visiting friends and family, time to dig in.

I played for an hour or so last night and I like it a lot more. It's been a long time since I played a NEW old game like this. I guess I took it for granted that I could burn through a game and find everything in just a few hours. At a slower pace I'm really getting into this.

aaaaaaand then I hit the lagoon level. Why is the only fast form of transportation blocked off from the different areas? what a pain in the fucking ass it is to swim around.

Some first impressions:

- The levels are huge.  The downside to this is that it takes a while to really get anywhere.  With the first one, you could be at the first level within 10 minutes.  Here?  About 35-40 minutes (according to the game clock).
- Banjo's voice is off.
- Dingaling, suck and blow, etc.

I'll keep digging further and further into the game.  I don't expect it to be better than BK but we'll see if it is a good game on its own.

This game is too much lol, it's starting to feel like a chore.

I'm bumping this.

I'm struggling to get through the game.  It lacks a lot of the fun that Banjo Kazooie had.

This game reminds me a lot of Donkey Kong 64: massive worlds with muddled objectives that often force you to travel through entire levels to solve various puzzles.  BK had that but to a much lesser extent.  BK relied more on using various skills and moves to get a Jiggy.  BT and DK64 required you to travel at great lengths.  BK also seemed "livelier" than BT.  BT worlds are massive but they are mostly empty.  Again, like DK64 but I do think that DK64 did a better job of keeping the sense of action.  I'm finding myself getting bored with trudging through the levels.  As you said AdmiralViscen, it is like a chore.

This is a solid 6 out of 10 game.  I'm going to complete it so I can unlock all the Stop n' Swop items for BK and BT.

Another update:

I can't play this game anymore.  It manages to be even more empty and uninteresting than Donkey Kong 64.  Sparse worlds, jiggy objectives that hardly seem worth the effort, and the fact that everything is bundled now makes the levels boring.
