Over the counter cough medicine, even those with real, active ingredients, do not appear to be more effective than the placebo in a controlled test.

You may as well tell the kid the spoonfull of piss your giving him is actual cough medicine.  It will work just about the same as long as he believes it.

I drank a whole bottle of Delsym and it seemed pretty effective. 

Actually, now that I think about it I just felt kinda drunk and couldn't sleep.....never got the hallucinogenic euphoria I was promised.  But I didn't cough at all.

As a child when I was sick and couching, I was forced to drink a spoonful of onion juice--yes onion juice!

I love cough medicine, its great for insomnia.

Sometimes I had to drink some green shit with onions and other stuff in it, I can still remember the flavor :yuck

The concept of onions and cough syrup is, yes, making me nauseous.  That is the most disgusting combo I have heard of in weeks.

I used to take my cough medicine with an alligator spoon. If I still had one I'd probably be addicted to cough syrup.

NyQuil tastes way worse.  If Robitussin DM is pancake syrup in hell, then NyQuil is the water.
