Sony Computer Entertainment will now be publishing Terminal Reality's Ghostbusters title in a surprise deal signed with Atari today, according to GamesIndustry.biz.
The game is set for a June 19 release alongside the Sony Pictures film, but only on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2 platforms. They will have a period of exclusivity lasting several months until the PSP edition is launched.
It is unclear exactly what will happen to the Xbox 360 version of the game, although GamesIndustry.biz understands that Atari may look to publish it later on.
This will be the third publisher within a year for the Ghostbusters game. The former Vivendi title was dropped by Activision in the merger last summer, before subsequently being picked up by Atari.

Atari has told Eurogamer that the non-PlayStation versions of Ghostbusters - DS, PC, Wii and Xbox 360 - are still alive and will be delivered "later in the year".
That delay is collateral to Sony announcing publishing rights to Ghostbusters on PS2, PS3 and PSP. The two home console versions will arrive as timed exclusives on 19th June, and the PSP game will follow in the autumn.
Atari US will still publish all versions of the game, we're told.
Wow, what the fuck Atari. Seriously. I hope MS and Nintendo(lol) do this to a game almost about to be released.

Ghostbusters? Really?
I'd like to hear what went on behind the scenes with this one. Was Atari in panic mode with this one? I just can't imagine why any company would sweep up the game for exclusive release.

PAL only, what a waste of an exclusive. it will end up the same as their exclusives on Prince of Persia and Beyond Good and Evil

UPDATE: Atari has said that with Sony publishing the title, the game will reach a wider audience on release.
"Atari is committed to maximising the launch of the Ghostbusters videogame across Europe," offered Jim Wilson, VP of Worldwide Marketing for Atari.
"In partnership with both Sony Pictures Consumer Products and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, we have a unique opportunity to add new game products and expand marketing opportunities to reach Ghostbusters fans in Europe."
A PSP version of the title is due this autumn.

Atari had one foot in the grave only just last year. I would guess that making a deal with Sony and minimizing their risk made a lot of sense to their balance sheet, which still sucks, but is understandable.
