the gameplay seems decent enough, but i played for 3 hours last night with 45 mins of that time actually playing the fucking game.
not being able to level up my characters individually is fucking shitty. same with the lame equipment BS.
does it get any better?
-
probably not. another flop by sonytards. buy Sacred 2
-
already bought it but my 360 is at the get well center :(
-
too busy
playing watching persona 4 to play this.
-
I put about 5 hours in and didn't feel like playing much more. Then again, it could get much better...I'm just not one of those "play it for 10 hours, that's when things really pick up!" guys.
seems like another case where a nice art style completely sucks people in and makes them think the game is awesome.
-
The gameplay is pretty awesome too, the problem is the endless animu cutscenes.
-
Sacred 2 or don't bother.

The animu can't be any worse than say Star Ocean 4, which Jansen made it through. At least VC has nice character designs.

A lot of people can't get into the game because of the cutscenes. I like being able to level up all my characters in a single class at once though. I hate having to deal with individual characters and stat crap. I dunno, the gameplay is just so fun to me that I can look past the fact that there's only one battle in a chapter filled with lots of cutscenes.
-
All the animu cutscenes are skippable
-
Figures this thread would pop up mere days after I finally picked it up. Here I thought this game was universally loved.
I've yet to play it, mind you. The gf spotted it and "borrowed" it. :'(

aside from a few design decisions that i don't like (leveling up and the way equipment is handled), it's really not that bad. the actual gameplay is very good
just depends on if you can tolerate shit loads of crappy cutscenes (that is if care about the story). personally i would rather not be forced to skip them since i would like to know wtf is going on. the devs just did a poor job of balancing the gaming VS cutscene ratio

Seems to be a common problem these days.

exactly what I think of it. I loved the gameplay, but as you said the ratio is so heavy for cutscenes it killed my desire to play it.

They need to take this engine and do fantastic things with it FANTASTIC THINGS

Ugh. This isn't sounding good. The older I get the less patience I have for long-winded cutscenes. Is the game still relatively playable if you skip them all? Or is it necessary to watch so you know what you're doing come gameplay time?
I don't mind a few cutscenes, but if we're talking MGS 4 quantities, this one may be staying at the gf's for a looooong time.
-
I don't remember if you can skip them or not but there's so many of them that it's still annoying. They're not long, but there's just so many of them.
-
This thread is decreasing my interest in this game, but I'll probably pick it up anyway just because I'm down with watching 10 hours of the game to get to play it. Paid off for Persona 4! lolz

I really didn't notice the long cutscenes. If a jrpg has English voice acting, I usually leave it on behind me while I use my computer. I'm guessing I did that with Valkyria because long cutscenes where the characters just stand around usually do bother me. Devil Summoner 2 was like 45 minutes of text and boring cutscenes until I could actually start.
The one thing that did annoy me is was how it took too long for the game to teach you the rules for every battle. I didn't care about boring missions that I was incapable at losing at just to teach me the importance of so and so tactic. They keep teaching you these things later on and it just gets annoying. I would have rather had the rules of combat down, then the battles to play in.
But yeah, the combat is really fun once you get into it. The one thing they really need to add for the next game (or whatever uses this style of combat) is some multiplayer.

Valkyria Chronicles PSP in the same way they did Shinobido for PSP. No story, just a bunch of skirmish missions.

my favorite game of 2008

The longest cutscene is prob five minutes max. Don't listen to these negative neg-erm, nannies.

Yea, but they're back to back to back.
