Rockstar Games Announces Grand Theft Auto: The Ballad of Gay Tony for Download on Xbox LIVE® and Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City Available on Disc for Xbox 360® this Fall

By: Business Wire
May. 26, 2009 04:01 PM

Rockstar Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), is proud to announce the fall release of both the second episode of Grand Theft Auto: The Ballad of Gay Tony - exclusively for download on Xbox LIVE® online entertainment network, and Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City, which will include both episode one The Lost and Damned, and episode two The Ballad of Gay Tony together on a single disc exclusively for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.

"Liberty City is the most vibrant game world we've created yet. The episodic structure has allowed us to interweave stories, gameplay and atmosphere in a whole new way," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "The team at Rockstar North have yet again surpassed themselves, and made something that is both epic and very innovative. This episode's focus on high-end night life contrasts with the biker gangs portrayed in The Lost and Damned, whilst giving us a lot of new gameplay possibilities."

Grand Theft Auto IV's second downloadable episode, The Ballad of Gay Tony injects Liberty City with an overdose of guns, glitz, and grime. As Luis Lopez, part-time hoodlum and full-time assistant to legendary nightclub impresario Tony Prince (aka "Gay Tony"), players will struggle with the competing loyalties of family and friends, and with the uncertainty about who is real and who is fake in a world in which everyone has a price.

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City delivers two games on one disc - the all-new episode The Ballad of Gay Tony and the first episode, The Lost and Damned - together on disc for the first time - for Xbox 360 for $39.99 and will not require a copy of the original Grand Theft Auto IV to play.

The Ballad of Gay Tony will release on Xbox LIVE this fall for $19.99 or 1600 MS points and requires players to have Grand Theft Auto IV for Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE membership to download.

More full-frontal male nudity than ever before, with advanced vein rendering!

Ugh.  ::) I don't think I'll bother downloading this one. The biker gang atmosphere kicked ass but this, not so much.

So since they are doing the disc-based one, I need real talk:  If I didn't like GTAIV and shelved it after getting to the middle island, would I like L&tD enough that it'd be worth picking up the DLC adventures?

K, that was easy enough.

I thought GTA4 was alright until you left the small foreign area and the game expanded.  The rest of it sucked.  Lost and the Damned was great, though.

I'm not excited for this game in the least, but I'm not gonna lie-- that's a fucking awesome title.

Agreed.

Actually, I hope it means a return to some of the GTA III-era style writing, with more over-the-top American culture parody instead of the nearly straightforward, representational style of IV.

Also, I've picked up Lost and the Damned, and for some reason I'm enjoying it more than IV.

I still play GTA4 on a regular basis.  I love going to Free Play mode with some friends and just messing around and blowing stuff up, and running from the cops with other people with me.  It's awesome.  It's the sandbox game I need to keep my sanity.

That's pretty much the only thing GTAIV had going for it.

As a PS3 GTAIV owner, I'm looking forward to the standalone X360 two pack since all you guys say L&tD is a lot of fun even if you didn't like GTAIV and by logic this one should be as well.

Hah, I hadn't made that connection before. I was wondering how the "DLC IS EXCLUSIVE TO X360" thing was going to work out. Rockstar's solution to turn DLC into a boxed expansion standalone is sharp.

What the fuck... I am actually interested in a GTA game? Wow... I *NEVER* thought this day would come. Well, I of course caned the FUCK out of Pjanoo last year, and those club shots look awesome... I really hope they throw in lots of little references and nods to NYC club culture. And if we get more house music in it... fuck I'll prolly buy it  :-\

I liked that part of the arc, including the radio news at the end of the interminable credits. Or was that after the credits?

I was crawling through some old vids on the Xbox tonight and came across the final trailer for the original GTA IV, "Everybody's a rat..."
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/everyones-a-grand-theft/32309

It is pretty freakin' cool looking. And by that, I mean a cool looking trailer does not imply good gameplay. So I'm iffy on the whole Gay Tony thing until I can play through Lost and the Damned, determine if R* has learned anything about pacing, fun side missions, sense of accomplishment, etc.
