Title: Help me rediscover my inner j-homo
Post by: The Sceneman on June 02, 2009, 06:55:29 AM
so I have been neglecting my latent homojapuality by playing western action games like Tomb Raider, Vince Diesel, and PEGGLE....
....
yeah I dont know where Im going with this.

Basically what this thread is about is:

I havent played a jprg on 360 for ages. Star Ocean and Tales of Vesperia come out this month in PAL (finally). I hear The Last Remnant is very good also (looks awesome from the gameplay video I watched).

Which of these should I play over the others? Bear in mind I enjoy turn based and srpgs much more than action rpgs.

the demo is a bad representation of the game from all accounts ive heard

i was very disappointed in the demo and the first 10 or so hours of the game. after you learn fatal strikes vesperia starts picking up steam and pitters out when you have to look for the spirits

all in all though it's a great game. yuri is just awesome for a jrpg character

Vesperia demo stinks.  I hated the demo but really liked the final game.

Vesperia is is the most atrociously j-homo game I've played in recent memory so it will fit the bill quite nicely.

Worse than Star Ocean 4? I find that difficult to believe.

vesperia is j-homo, no doubt, but it is like anderson cooper compared to star ocean 4's divine

I didn't bother with SO4 considering all the gruff you guys gave it. I listen to EB. :usacry

You're a smart man, slime.

I don't think I ever said that I thought Star Ocean 4 was anything but a total disappointment. Started okay, but quickly dissolved into horribleness.

You could have at least linked to a video of it:

I will not fall pray to your pagan tricks!

Too late, you already went to the website and everything. Demi's trap claims another victim.

Star Ocean 4 has a great battle system, some cool dungeons, and awesome (but challenging!) postgame content. Vesperia is fun but tends to drag on a bit, enemies are HP sinks and there is a bit too much dialogue in it. Still a great game tho.

That's great but Star Ocean 4 embarasses people

SO4 bosses are made of HP sink (see the last boss) and the dialogue in SO4 is way more unless you are counting Vesperia's skits which are optional.

also cool dungeons? all i remember is some shitty ass puzzles.

and as demi said, SO4 is embarrassing.

I played through the first disc of SO4 and I don't remember any dungeons that were particularly impressing. It was just long corridors and rooms.

And SO4 overflows with super-long cutscenes about 10-12 hours into it and, as far as I can tell, never lets up after that. And the cutscenes were just so BAD. Plus, your party of characters get worse and worse the more you get.

Im probably going to go the whole hog, buy and 1000/1000 Vesperia. Only 100 hours of gameplay or so.... lol

Tiesto has given SO4 the thubs up though and I totally trust his taste.... may have to check it out also.

June 26th... come on

vesperia shits all over so4 in every possible way

any awesome post game content that so4 has is completely worthless because the devs where too fucking stupid to give the player a way to synthesize on each disc forcing you to constantly switch discs.

and the cutscenes are WAY LONGER and complete shit compared to vesperia. not to mention the fact that the story and characters in so4 suck. whereas the majority of the characters in vesperia are great (yuri is awesome) and the story is decent (plus the voice acting is pretty good in vesperia).

as for bosses... the bosses in so4 are nothing but hp sinks. most of them have a shitty little gimmick that has you aiming for a specific spot on them otherwise they're even more of an hp sink.

the only thing so4 has going for it is a fun battle system. that's it.

it fucking kills me that SO4 sucks but there is nothing to be done when enix wants to go the way of gay with dialogue and characters - you know the meat and potatoes of a jrpg.  i tried to like it but couldn't get past the youtube videos and reviews.  i'll play it one day, but not buy it at full price.

this tales of vesperia love is kind of surprising though.  if this many evilborians like it then i may have to check it out again.  the demo was beautiful but the dialogue made me want to punch people in the face.
